General Hospital (GH) spoilers reveal that a major transition is on the horizon now that Chris Van Etten and Dan O’Connor have been fired as the show’s co-head writers. There’s a new writing team in the works since Patrick Mulcahey and Elizabeth Korte have been tapped as replacements.
Of course, that means GH fans are going to see some changes on canvas. There’ll inevitably be returns, departures, dropped stories, fresh directions and a whole lot more.
However, we want to focus on the couples in Port Charles for a moment. There are definitely some problematic pairings on the show that could stand to be scrapped, so here are five couples that need to split up under the new writing regime.
1) Robert and Diane
Robert Scorpio (Tristan Rogers) and Diane Miller (Carolyn Hennesy) have zero chemistry – not to mention they act more like annoyed co-workers than lovers on any given day. Diane and Robert honestly just feel like a giant waste of airtime whenever they’re on, so it’s time to pull the plug on this pairing.
2) Carly and Drew
Drew Cain (Cameron Mathison) and Carly Spencer (Laura Wright) are another smug, bland couple in need of a split.
It’s the perfect time now that Drew’s displaying post-Pentonville personality problems – especially with Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) coming back soon as another romantic option for Carly.
3) Finn and Liz
Can you think of a single scene lately where Elizabeth Baldwin (Rebecca Herbst) hasn’t been Hamilton Finn’s (Michael Easton) cheerleader? Saddling Liz with Finn and all his man pain is a mistake that needs to be corrected with a permanent breakup.
4) Sam and Dante
This is a tricky one since Dante Falconeri (Dominic Zamprogna) and Sam McCall (Kelly Monaco) can be pretty cute together at times.
Even so, Sam and Dante are starting to feel stale, so we’d say Lulu Spencer (Emme Rylan) needs to wake up for her former hubby while Sam considers a reunion with Jason following his return.
5) Jordan and Brick
We’re cheating a little here since Jordan Ashford (Tanisha Harper) and Brick (Stephen A. Smith) aren’t technically a couple yet, but that’s only because we want this pairing over before it even truly begins!
Who on earth thought teasing Jordan with Brick was a good idea, especially after all the sizzling she did with Zeke Robinson (Gavin Houston)?
If Brick and Jordan end up becoming a full-fledged couple, let’s hope the new writing team scraps that plan and gives Jordan a real love story that’s meant to last.
General Hospital spoilers say some couple updates will come with the writing transition, so stay tuned for news on which pairings will split up down the road.
