General Hospital Spoilers: Steve Burton Finally Breaks His Silence Over Kelly Monaco’s Exit

General Hospital (GH) spoilers indicate it’s been an explosive week in the land of Port Charles, both on and off-screen. Fans were shocked to learn recently that after 21 years on the soap, the show was letting Kelly Monaco go. Not only will her GH character exit the canvas, but Sam McCall is also slated to be killed off.

This news has devastated long-time viewers and fans of both Kelly and Sam, not to mention #TeamJaSam who was hoping to see Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) reunite with his long-time love and mother to one of his sons, Danny Morgan (Asher Antonyzyn). In fact, before the news of Kelly’s exit, JaSam fans were already buzzing about a possible reunion as the announcement was made that GH was looking to recast Lulu Spencer (last played by Emme Rylan). If Lulu awakened, she’d be sure to reunite with Dante Falconeri (Dominic Zamprogna), which means a door would open for a JaSam reunion.

All those plans are scrapped now with Kelly exiting the show.

Steve Burton has been a longtime colleague of Monaco’s, and the two have worked closely together over the years, because of the JaSam romance and co-parenting Danny. Burton recently broke his silence about Kelly’s firing on his Daily Drama podcast, with fellow GHer, Brandford Anderson (Damien Spinelli).

Anderson and Burton filmed the podcast after the announcement was made about Monaco’s firing. As expected, the two were flooded with questions about Kelly’s exit. Anderson told fans that GH was on a break from filming, so the cast heard about Monaco’s departure at the same time as fans. He added that they don’t have any more information to provide, other than what’s been reported.

Burton added, “I wish we had information to tell you,” and speculated that more info. should trickle down the pipe in the days ahead. He also states that he doesn’t know how Sam McCall’s exit storyline will unfold, but “Whatever happens sucks.”

General Hospital spoilers suggest that Kelly was blindsided by the show’s move to remove Sam from the canvas, so Steve Burton and Bradford Anderson were likely shocked like the rest of us when the news hit.
