General Hospital (GH) spoilers indicate fans are still reeling from Chad Duell’s Instagram announcement this weekend.
The actor hopped on the social media platform on Saturday, November 23 to tell followers he was leaving the show. Some hours later, GH’s Executive Producer Frank Valentini dropped the second hammer via an X post that confirmed Duell’s news.
Valentin also noted there were no plans to recast Michael Corinthos and that a “great story” was coming for the character and his family, as the actor is set to leave the soap in the new year.
This has sent GH viewers into a frenzy of speculation, wondering how Michael will exit storylines.
So, how will Michael’s departure from the canvas go down?
Michael Corinthos’ GH Exit – Theory #1 – A “Presumed Dead” Go-To Storyline
The interesting thing about Michael Corinthos is his family ties: he’s not only a Quartermaine, but a Corinthos, too, which means he’s a target for many.
Most times when soap writers want a shocking storyline, but one that provides a window of opportunity for a return, a “presumed dead” arc is crafted.
Michael could pass away in an explosion or shooting meant for his mob boss dad, Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard), but there is potential for this to go another way.
Considering the drama between Michael and his Uncle Drew Quartermaine (Cameron Mathison), could the writers set the stage for the character’s exit in final explosive face-off between the two.
Michael recorded an incriminating conversation with Drew during the Monday, November 25 episode where Drew stated his plans were to demote Curtis Ashford (Donnell Turner) and promote Michael to his Aurora CEO spot. Michael did this to convince Curtis to participate in a plan to overthrow Drew.
Of course, this is all in revenge because of Drew sleeping with his wife, Willow Corinthos (Katelyn MacMullen).
If Drew catches on to Michael’s betrayal, which may only get worse over time – after all, he also has incriminating evidence of him and Willow together doing the deed on the floor of the Quartermaine’s nursery – could the uncle and nephew have a massive confrontation that ends up physical?
What if it’s near a dock or cliff and the two start pushing each other, only for Michael to end up falling over? Perhaps a body isn’t found, and Michael is presumed dead.
The only slight issue with this scenario is the grief factor. Would the GH writing team put Carly Spencer (Laura Wright) and Sonny through losing yet another child?
Michael Corinthos’ GH Exit – Theory #2 – Michael Corinthos Is Sent To Jail
Fans know Michael is a good guy, but when someone crosses the line with him, he can get dark (as seen during Monday’s show and beyond).
In an effort to get back at Drew or Willow, could Michael cross the line and land in jail?
This wouldn’t be the first time clean-cut Micheal has been to prison, but it would allow for an exit and the ability to bring him back to canvas at a later date.
Especially if he ends up landing in prison because Willow (or Drew) steps forward to rat him out.
Michael Corinthos’ GH Exit – Theory #3 – Michael Corinthos Disappears
Speaking of Michael’s dark side, Drew and Willow are pushing him to his limits at this point.
Not only are they not coming clean about their romp in the Q nursery, but they are also both still lying about kissing twice.
As Michael remains on course to get back at Drew via this plan with Curtis, what if he catches Willow and Drew doing the deed again?
What if Willow and Drew get closer and closer in the coming weeks, with possible talks about Willow leaving Michael to be with Drew?
If Michael crosses the line with Drew in the near future, she may believe she’s married to a monster and start to believe she’s better off with his uncle.
But Willow won’t reveal these plans to Michael directly, and he may overhear her talking to Drew or someone else about it.
Could this prompt Michael to leave town both Wiley Corinthos (Viron Weaver) and Ameila Corinthos (Sequoia & Serenity Mork Macko) in tow?
He wouldn’t leave an incriminating ‘goodbye note’ – he’d just vanish into thin air – anything to keep Drew and Willow away from his children and living out their ‘happily ever after’ together.
Michael doesn’t only have Quartermaine money backing him up, but he’s also got the power and resources of his mob boss, dad, Sonny, and Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) may also help him skip town. Anything to keep Wiley and Amelia away from Drew’s influence.
General Hospital spoilers suggest the proverbial poop could hit the fan during Michael Corinthos’ exit, leaving drama and chaos in the aftermath.
