General Hospital Tuesday, July 30 Recap: Missing Evidence Frees Carly, Agent Cates Fumes Over Ruined Case

General Hospital (GH) spoilers recap for Tuesday, July 30, reveals that Anna Devane (Finola Hughes) pestered a WSB employee for answers about Jack Brennan (Charles Mesure) at the headquarters in Washington, but he couldn’t offer up classified information.

Anna refused to leave without getting to the bottom of things, so Brennan himself appeared in a suit and greeted her.

Once Anna was in Brennan’s office, he eventually admitted that the WSB had a use for him.

Anna assumed the WSB wanted to cut all Pikeman ties, so they let the FBI take the organization down and then cleaned up all traces of Brennan’s involvement.

Talk turned to John “Jagger” Cates (Adam J. Harrington) since Anna wanted to know what kind of leverage Brennan had on him.

Anna brought up Carly Spencer’s (Laura Wright) struggles since Cates was going after her to get to Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard).

Once Anna eventually asked about all the lives Brennan had ruined, he pushed her to have patience and see that he wasn’t in the business of doing that if he could help it.

Anna seemed thoughtful as she mulled over that clue.

At the Metro Court pool, Nina Reeves (Cynthia Watros) brought Wiley Corinthos (Viron Weaver) a gift for his birthday and joined his party.

Willow Corinthos (Katelyn MacMullen) encouraged Nina to stick around and thanked her for helping out with Congressman Larry McConkey (Sam McMurray).

Although Willow was surprised Nina agreed considering Nina’s history with Michael Corinthos (Chad Duell), Nina acted like she was doing it because Carly was so important to the family.

Maxie Jones (Kirsten Storms), Damian Spinelli (Bradford Anderson) and James West (Gary James Fuller) were also at the party, which brought a private moment between Maxie and Spinelli.

Spinelli used a series of denials to give Maxie updates on how he found Cates’ Carly leverage and let her know he couldn’t get rid of it.

Following all the courthouse drama, Molly Lansing-Davis (Kristen Vaganos) came looking for Anna and found Dante Falconeri (Dominic Zamprogna) instead.

Dante heard about Michael stopping Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) from punching Cates, which kept Sonny out of handcuffs.

Afterward, Molly spoke with Alexis Davis (Nancy Lee Grahn), who insisted Kristina Corinthos-Davis (Kate Mansi) was running on pregnancy hormones and dealing with her instincts to protect the baby.

Since Kristina would just push back harder if Molly kept pushing, Alexis urged her to have a calmer conversation with her sister.

Alexis felt that Molly would be better off trying to show some trust, even if she wasn’t feeling it.

Next on Tuesday’s GH episode, Carly’s arraignment began with Diane Miller’s (Carolyn Hennesy) motion to dismiss the charges.

A man appeared and whispered to U.S. Attorney Wilcox (Jordan Murphy) moments later.

Based on the info he was given, Wilcox didn’t oppose the dismissal – which left John shocked and furious.

Judge Sullivan (Gita Reddy) called Wilcox and Cates to the bench, where it was revealed that the incriminating recording had disappeared.

Cates’ credentials were the last ones used to access the recording back in June, which he denied doing.

Although John tried to protest, Judge Sullivan realized there was no evidence and indeed dismissed the case.

When John kept trying to complain, Judge Sullivan threatened to hold him in contempt of court if he continued.

Once court was adjourned, John ranted about evidence tampering and seemed to think Anna was responsible based on a flashback.

Cates warned Sonny, Jason and Carly that this wasn’t over since he still had plans to put them all behind bars.

After Wilcox apologized to Carly, he let her know there’d be an investigation into Cates’ conduct.

Carly celebrated her freedom with Diane, Jason, Michael and Josslyn Jacks (Eden McCoy), but Sonny approached and asked what was wrong with “you people.”

Once Sonny acted like all of this could’ve been avoided if they’d chosen to trust him with the truth, he vowed to take care of Cates himself and stomped off.

General Hospital spoilers say Sonny’s unmedicated behavior could land him in more hot water, so we’ll bring you predictions on all the bad news that’s brewing.
