In tonight’s Grey’s Anatomy episode, picking up where they left off, Catherine Fox was on a power trip. She fired Meredith. She fired Amelia. The two kinda saw that coming because they continued their Alzheimer’s research without her permission.
Teddy was also fired for that same reason. She was the one that used the hospital’s discretionary fund to pay for that research behind Catherine’s back and so she wasn’t surprised when her hospital privileges were revoked.
The women were always waiting for the shoe to drop. It was actually Catherine firing Owen that went too far. Owen didn’t kiss her behind while he was treating a patient and that was enough for Catherine to fire him as well.
Catherine was even going against Bailey tonight. Bailey didn’t do anything to her. Bailey sided with the surgical interns when they spoke in Lucas’s defense.
They were all fighting the hospital’s decision to make him do his first year over again. He didn’t deserve that. Lucas was a promising intern. He had a rough start. He’s a lot better now that he knows he has ADHD. He was taking his meds. He passed his exams with the highest scores and he proving to be a kind-hearted doctor. Bailey saw that. Catherine didn’t.
Catherine took things too far when she basically told Bailey her opinion counts for nothing. Bailey has been at the hospital longer than Catherine or the Fox Foundation.
She shouldn’t have had to justify her seniority. Or be called nothing in front of her co-workers. It was here that things got fuzzy. Catherine threatened to cut Bailey’s salary to pay for her “rejects”. Bailey wouldn’t accept that. Catherine then told her she was fired and It didn’t go well. Bailey responded by slapping her. And it didn’t help her case.
Catherine did not change her mind about Lucas. He either has to do his first year over or transfer to the hospital in Chicago. He was still thinking about in the days after.
Now that Bailey was no longer in charge of the interns, all of the interns needed to consider if they were willing to stay or not. They watched as most of the doctors left.
They were worried about losing Lucas as well. They also had to deal with their new boss. It was Sydney Heron. She did her residency at that hospital. She was back and was so chipper that it was annoying.
Catherine hired Sydney just to tick off Bailey.
Catherine would have fired the interns too if it didn’t cost the foundation government funding. Richard had to remind her about that and so Catherine did not gain a heart when it comes to them. She was forced to keep them. She also needed to find a bunch of doctors to fill her hospital.
Her son flew back from the east coast because he heard of the hospital’s crisis. Jackson was friends with most of the people she fired. He tried to reason with her. She refused to listen to him because she felt she was always right.
Its not like Catherine doesn’t understand Meredith. The two them were a lot alike. They were both rule breakers. Catherine was just a little more strategic than Meredith was.
Meredith hoped that ignoring Catherine would be enough. She ignored the many cease and desist letters from Catherine’s lawyers. Catherine was also badmouthing her to every hospital interested in the Alzheimer’s research. Meredith couldn’t do a thing as long as someone as powerful as Catherine stood against her and this was where Jackson came in.
Jackson talked to Meredith. He told her she was in the wrong in the way she went about things. She knew about the misuse of funds. She breached her contract with the hospital.
His mother has a lot of leeway to come after her in court. Jackson knew that. He thought the best move forward was for Meredith was to apologize to Catherine and, if not, get a great lawyer. He convinced Meredith that she didn’t have a chance of winning in court. She was going to apologize to Catherine when she saw Catherine pass out from a medical event.
Meredith was keeping Catherine alive while Bailey was blowing her top. Bailey found out Sydney was back. She hates Sydney with a passion. She took maternity leave and it was Sydney that was left in charge of her interns. Bailey believes to this day that Sydney disrupted their education.
She came back to work early just fix them post-Sydney. Bailey was so mad that she was glad she was no longer at the hospital. She was running her clinic. Her husband retired from Seattle Fire Department. He was looking to return to his doctor roots because it was safer.
Ben even said he wouldn’t apply at a Fox Foundation hospital. He was loyal like that. Bailey wished everyone could be that loyal because Richard stayed on at the hospital. He was appointed the interim Chief. He hadn’t spoke up for anyone. He practically raised most of them and now he was just being really passive.
He returned to the OR tonight. There were people protesting against climate change. They added bungee jumping to that. One guy landed on a car. He somehow managed to survive and it was up to Lucas to look for his missing finger.
Lucas couldn’t find it only he returned inside to find out the interns were looking for a patient. This woman was a protester that got roughed up by cops.
The cops were waiting to talk to her after she received treatment and so she snuck away. She went into the air duct system. She was probably going around in a circle when Bailey came across her. Bailey was taking supplies from the hospital that she knew wouldn’t be missed. Simone ran into her. The two of them got to talking when they overheard the patient trapped in the walls.
The patient had fallen down one of the airducts. She was trapped behind a wall. She tried to escape before she was treated and her blood cot was cutting off her oxygen supply.
Bailey tore down the wall trapping the patient. She performed a minor procedure to save the woman. She taught three of the interns something new. Then she had to watch Sydney do the job she loved doing. It made Bailey realize she was going to fight for her job. She told her husband that he can apply at the hospital too. Grey Sloane was their hospital.
Blue found the jumper’s missing finger. He found it in the clothes of the person driving the car. He gave it to Lucas and Lucas rushed it into the OR.
Only it was too late to reattach to the patient. The window closed. Lucas missed out on a surgery for nothing. The only upside was that it got Blue to open up to him about his ex-fiancé. It was his way of telling Lucas not to give up on Simone. Blue’s ex reached out to him. Their story might not be over.
Meredith however saved Catherine’s life. Catherine was dying. She has a tumor on her spine. She was also at risk of a cardiac event and she didn’t want her family to know about any of it.
She wanted to spend what little time she had left putting her affairs in order. She was willing to work with Meredith if Meredith didn’t tell anyone about her condition. It was dirty trick, but it was typical Catherine.
And Jo finally told Link she was pregnant.
THE END!
