In tonight’s Grey’s Anatomy episode, Meredith was doing research into Alzheimer’s. She was warned against doing so. She technically works for Catherine Fox and she didn’t like the direction Meredith was going in. She told Meredith to stop her research. Meredith said she would, but she actually had Amelia helping her in keeping the research off the books.
Amelia needed something to focus on anyways. She was super lonely. She was even talking about adopting a cat because she only has her son half the time. She also has become aggressive behind the wheel of a car. She saw someone waiting for a parking spot and she cut ahead of them to steal it.
Well, the person she cut off was the new pediatric surgeon. Dr. Beltran was a highly accomplished surgeon and she’s chosen Seattle to be her new home. She was a great find for the hospital. They were all told to make her feel welcome. Amelia ruined that plan before Beltran had entered the building.
Beltran doesn’t like her. It made things awkward when they were both called for the same patient. The patient is a little girl named Malan. She has a health condition that required a stint. And her mother thought something was off because Malan wasn’t her usual self.
Mom knows best for a reason because the mom proved to be right. Malan’s stint had collapsed. She needed a new one and Beltran was against a traditional one because she thought it would stop the little girl from doing capoeira. It was a dance fighting style. The little girl loves it.
She was very active before she suddenly became too tired for it and so Beltran didn’t want to take that from her. Amelia on the other hand said there was no alternative. She’s looked into other options. Malan was ruled out for most of them.
Beltran and Amelia were second guessing each other with Blue stuck in the middle. Blue was the intern assigned to pediatrics that day. He had been all excited because he heard good things about Beltran. He didn’t mind working with kids. It was just the fighting/not fighting that was getting to him.
He found himself constantly stuck in the middle while there was a cool rescue happening outside. Someone got had gotten crushed in his metal rowing ball. He had collided with a ship and the metal mechanism surrounding him had crushed him into the device. The guy’s name is Nate.
Jules and Simone were supposed to assist with the cool rescue. Lucas and Mika were put in charge of a man in a coma. They were supposed to keep watch over him to see if his condition changes. Lucas didn’t want to stick around. He left because he said he didn’t want Blue to qualify for surgery before him.
Before he did that, Mika tried to be impartial in his breakup with Simone. They were all living together and so she was the first to know about the breakup. Mika didn’t want to take sides. And Lucas pushed her into one because of his arrogance.
The breakup was all over the hospital by the way. Most people thought Simone dumped Lucas. Lucas was the one that actually dumped her instead. He thought Simone was selfish. She constantly put herself first only to second guess that decision and make another choice about her.
Lucas got tired of waiting around for her. He finally called it quits. He told Simone he wasn’t going to be her crutch any longer. He went around the hospital trying to complete Bailey’s list for the interns because he wanted to qualify for surgery as soon as possible.
Mika stayed put. She did math problems to count away the time. Lucas was off being where he wasn’t supposed to be and Simone seemed to be winning the breakup because she was a part of a daring rescue. Nate had suffered crush injuries. He needed to be rushed to the OR.
He only did something as stupid as a giant rowing ball because his wife’s ex-boyfriend went on to become a billionaire adventurous guy. Nate was just a boring pharmacist. He didn’t want his wife to look back at their life together and regret him. And so he tried to do something cool that turned out to be stupid.
Simone convinced him to go into surgery. He initially wanted to wait to talk to his wife. Simone told him that she would pass his message onto her and that his wife will see him after surgery. Only Nate started coding before they had even cut into him. Schmitt meanwhile ran into Nico.
His ex-boyfriend. Nico was now in a committed relationship with someone else and they were having a baby together. Their surrogate was about to give birth. And Nico’s new partner didn’t know who Schmitt was or that Nico was a big part of Schmitt’s life.
Schmitt felt like he lost that breakup. They didn’t even talk about kids when they were dating. Nico had apparently started dating Jason when Jason had already picked out a surrogate and so that forced Nico to realize how much he wants to be a dad. He became serious about Jason.
They decided to become parents together. It in turn made Schmitt realize that maybe he should start dating again. Schmitt wasn’t paying close enough attention to Lucas because Lucas returned to the patient when Mika needed to grab something.
Mika stepped away for a minute.
The patient crashed with Lucas in the room. Bailey came in. She had Lucas scrub in to assist and Bailey also told off Mika for leaving. Lucas didn’t defend her at all. He had a friend as well as a roommate before this. He doesn’t anymore. Blue actually did everything right and he still didn’t get to watch a surgery.
Beltran was a tough one. She doesn’t like being watched or have her patients on display. Amelia agreed to Beltran’s idea of doing a different procedure that would save Malan. And still the two didn’t like each other.
Blue also got back on peds the next day. Beltran thought he needed to work on his bedside manner. She requested him to make sure that he gains something from the experience. As for Nate, he died in surgery. They were too late to save him. His wife was a mess afterwards and so Simone comforted her.
She told the woman Nate’s last words. Which was hard on Winston. Winston was still not over Maggie and he’s afraid he lost her for good. Its why he finally took off his wedding ring. And Mika told Lucas that they were just roommates now. They stopped being friends.
Lucas has to get a ride to and from the hospital now because Mika was no longer driving him. He thought to make things easier by moving out of the house. And that was a shame because Simone was finally got to talk to him and possibly apologize as well.
And Meredith got Teddy to fund her research using hospital funds. They were going to hide it from Catherine until they found something that was too good to ignore.
THE END!
