In tonight’s Grey’s Anatomy episode, Catherine Fox was back at the hospital. She wanted to be there when an important benefactor family came in. The family was coming in because their daughter needed surgery.

Misty Beltran has a prosthetic leg. It wasn’t working out. She was also experiencing a lot of phantom pain. The newest doctor was in charge of it because she was running peds now and so she finally met Catherine.

They both left an undesirable impression on each other. Dr. Monica Beltran was kinda tough. She wouldn’t accept Schmitt’s fellowship in her field.

Monica didn’t think his reasons for Peds were good enough. She also didn’t just come out and explain that. She messes with people. She did that with Amelia. She’s now doing that with Schmitt.

She couldn’t do that with Catherine and so Catherine put her in her place. Catherine didn’t think the planned surgery for Misty was enough.

Monica only said she might reduce the pain. She also offered a new prosthetic that might not be better than her current one. Catherine heard all of that and she asked to speak to both Monica and Link privately.

Catherine told them they were offering coach to a first class family. She said the family’s contributions to the hospital alone meant they deserved the best.

Catherine told both doctors to come up with a better plan of action for Misty. Link considered it. He proposed offering Misty a more aggressive surgery.

He didn’t offer it the first time because Misty was fifteen. She was still a kid. If she was older, he would have offered the more aggressive surgery right away. And he’s only changing his mind now because he thought it would be easier with Catherine.

Amelia overheard his conversation with Monica. She made a lot of snide remarks. She and Link share a toddler son. They both agreed to limit their son’s screen time because Amelia the neurologist thought it was detrimental to his brain activity. Well, Link ended up giving their son his own tablet.

He even labeled it. He didn’t discuss it with Amelia before he did it. She spotted their son watching tv on his brand new tablet and saw the label for herself. She took Link to task then. She took him to task again when she overheard him talking to Monica.

Monica felt so bad for him that she agreed to offer his idea to Misty. She didn’t advocate for it. She just told Misty that her entire situation sucks and that this surgery might offer her a better life. Misty agreed to take it. She wants to be able to run again. She wants to walk long distances without her leg falling apart.

She wants to get rid of the pain. She may be a kid, but she was honest with herself enough to know that she was willing to do anything to make her situation better. And her parents got on board with her decision.

Schmitt was on this case. He was joined by one of the interns, Jules. They were glad to see such a rare surgery. Jules was also glad to be away from Bailey. Bailey got all the interns care packages.

She remembered what it was like to be an intern herself. She knew that no one looked out for her and she wanted to be better for the younger surgeons coming up. They just didn’t appreciate the packages. Blue thought Simone was a narc. He figured she must have told Bailey about how suicidal he was when he talked down a patient off the roof with his own story.

Only she didn’t tattletale. She also got his frustration with the care package. They worked eighty hours a week. They barely had time to eat a real meal in the cafeteria much less sleep.

If Bailey really wanted to do them a favor, she would have paid them more. The interns were discussing it when Bailey overheard them. She sent both Simone and Blue home. They chose to study for exams. They also put the care packages to use because they cooked the vegetables that came with it. The others were still at the hospital. Mika was upset with her girlfriend.

Helm put Mika on a crappy service. She missed an impalement because of it. She wasn’t ready to forgive her girlfriend just yet and she was focusing on work. She too hated the packages.

She simply didn’t say it out loud like the others. She instead focused on work. She was assigned to cardio with Teddy. They were treating a patient in the prison ward of the hospital. Their patient has what they suspected to be tuberculosis. They ran some tests on him and that’s when they learn that he has something worst than a highly contagious chest infection. He has several masts.

It could be cancer. There was little chance of saving his life either way. The surgeons suggested sending him back to prison. Mika advocated for something different because she thought that was too cruel. They could offer Jimenez treatment for the masts. It won’t save his life. It might give him longer.

It will also come at cost of whatever time he has left. The guy has been sick for over a year. The prison doctors never bothered to listen to him or bring him to a hospital sooner. And so he refused treatment when he heard about the masts.

Jimenez felt done with begging to be heard. He was prepared to die. He went to prison at seventeen and he’s been there for over thirty years. Mika never found out what he did to get that sentence.

She still cared enough to look into other treatments. She wanted to try to get him to accept treatment, but Teddy told her that was the downside to being a doctor. They couldn’t save everyone. Misty’s surgery meanwhile became problematic. They learned that they have to take more of her leg to make the new surgery work.

Link had to get the parents approval before he did anything. He talked them into it. He took more leg and the surgery was a success. He was able to perform it. Schmitt and Jules got to witness an amazing thing.

Misty was happy when she woke up. Her parents were happy. Catherine was happy that the benefactors were happy. Jules thought it paid to be rich. Schmitt was also congratulated for the work he did by Link. And so he asked Monica why couldn’t say the same.

Monica told him that looking for validation will get him nowhere. He needs passion for peds to make it work or he needs to find something else. She lost a patient that day.

She watched a three month old die. It was tough. She could handle it because she wouldn’t want to do anything else. Which was something Lucas figured out for himself. He was put in charge of Dorian. Dorian was a long-term ICU patient. He began acting out tonight and it almost cost him his life. Lucas even saw Richard freeze. And that just taught he still has more to learn.

Lucas was prepared to return to the house when he caught Blue moving into his old room.

Mika said goodbye to her patient by getting his favorite desert.

And Bailey took her own advice. She went home early to treat herself. She had the kids leave for a pizza night and shared a romantic night with her husband.

THE END!
