On tonight’s Grey’s Anatomy episode, Jules and Mika have come a long way since their first day at Grey Sloane Memorial. Mika announced to all of the interns that Mika had slept with an attendee. Jules hated Mika for a while because of that and now they’re dating. They were secretly dating.
They didn’t tell any of their friends about their relationship. The only person that knows about them was Amelia. Amelia doesn’t care what the interns get up to. Nor was she prude. She was once married to Owen. She has a baby with Link. She tried to kiss Monica and she was Lucas’s drug addict of an aunt. She has no moral leg to stand on.
Amelia doesn’t even know that Lucas got back together with Simone. Simone left her fiancé at the altar for him. They performed an unauthorized surgery together on their own. They’ve been back and forth with their relationship. They were finally on firm ground when they remembered they were interns.
They were in open competition with each other and the other three for the best surgeries. Simone studied all night on the off chance she could scrub into a liver transplant. And still Lucas got chosen over her.
All of the interns wanted surgeries. Though something was off with Mika tonight. Jules was the only one to notice. Jules knew that Mika would normally jump with joy when she gets assigned to Amelia and the fact that its a guaranteed surgery didn’t emote a reaction means something was on Mika’s mind.
Jules tried to ask her about it. Mika said it was nothing. Jules had to drop the matter because they all got assigned all in different parts of the hospital. Mika went with Amelia. They met a pregnant woman with a tumor.
The woman was a surrogate mother for her brother. Her brother and brother-in-law have tried surrogacy before. It didn’t work out. They were constantly left without a baby and they used their last embryo with the sister. The sister that now has a tumor. The tumor was growing fast thanks to her pregnancy hormones.
Removing the tumor now comes with a lot of risks with one of them being death. If she waited until she was further along in the pregnancy, the tumor might become too big to operate and there was still a chance that the patient could be left paralyzed.
The woman has gone to several hospitals all around the country. No one wants to operate on her in her current state. Amelia didn’t even want to operate on her. She thought it was dangerous and then she spoke with the patient. She heard her story. She realized that her saying no wouldn’t change anything.
The patient would keep looking for a doctor that would ultimately say yes. Amelia didn’t want her going to a hack and so she looked into other alternatives in getting rid of that tumor. Amelia was working with Jo on this one. Mika was their intern.
Elsewhere, Simone got angry at Lucas. He got chosen for the surgery she wanted. She got angry. She said he only got it because he was a Shepherd and they were beefing when Richard interrupted them. He told Simone he would also be working on the liver transplant surgery. He needed an intern. He chose Simone. Simone got to do the surgery too and she showed up Lucas by knowing all the details. This special surgery was an awake liver transplant. The patient was wide awake throughout the whole surgery.
It was a little bit odd because the patient did his own research. Probably with the help of Google. He repeatedly asked questions. He second guessed the doctors. He freaked out when Richard had to step away during the surgery.
Richard got a text message from Meredith. It said “911”. He was going to ignore it at first until Nick told him not to. Nick knew Meredith was performing a procedure on Catherine. Richard went running out of the OR to be at his wife’s side. Richard went to Bailey’s clinic. He heard that Catherine was having a liver biopsy.
Her liver needed to be saved. Meredith and Bailey worked together to save Catherine. Amelia in the meantime decided to perform surgery on her patient. There was a moment in the OR where it looked like both surrogate and baby were going to die. Amelia was fighting with Jo about it when Mika snapped.
She called them out for fighting over a patient and not respecting the two people on the operating table. Mika had the doctors so stunned that the patient was able to stabilize on her own. And the baby was going to be fine too.
Mika still got kicked out of the OR for yelling at the attendees. Only it was worth it. She saved two lives that day. Simone also got to close up Nick’s patient as a treat. That alone made her feel so much better. Richard however was stuck in the waiting room with Ben. Ben tried to interview for a job at the hospital. He had the interview with Sydney.
She proved to be anti-nepotism. She reminded Ben that he went from anesthesiologist to surgical resident to firefighter and now wants to be a surgeon again. Sydney said she didn’t want her intern to get distracted by the next bright thing.
Sydney made Ben so mad that he told himself no. He wasn’t going to return to that hospital. He was only sticking around to provide emotional support to Richard. Richard was fine when he was waiting.
It wasn’t until he knew Catherine was safe that he became angry with Meredith. He’s always defended her, but she should have told him that he might lose his second wife. Especially as she knew how hard it was when he lost the first one. Not to mention how he felt when he lost her mom. Bailey should have at least told him.
Bailey helped Catherine to get her old job back at the hospital. She was back in charge of the interns. Sydney did her a favor and she hired Ben on her last day. She hadn’t wanted Bailey to be accused of nepotism. And so now Bailey and Ben were working together again.
Schmitt also found a hot reverend on the dating app. He was the hospital chaplain. Schmitt has worked with him to help patients and he asked him out tonight.
And Amelia was later contacted by other pregnant women with tumors. They heard about the miracle she pulled off and they were hoping for their own miracle. She was their last chance. Also, Mika had apologized to Amelia for her behavior. She later told Jules what was really wrong. Her sister was diagnosed with cancer. She’s thinking about walking away from the surgical program to support her family.
THE END!
