In tonight’s Law & Order episode, ADA Dominick Carisi forgot his paralegal’s birthday. Clancy has been working for him for the past year. When he realized that a defense attorney remembered her birthday and he didn’t, he ran outside to the nearest bodega. He was going to buy her flowers.
He was even going to throw in a card when he walked into an active hostage situation. There were two men with guns. They stole money from the cash register. There were also two women there and them made them take out cash withdrawals at the ATM. The women eventually hit their limit. The men could have fled with what they had and they let that opportunity pass because they got greedy.
The gunmen found a safe in the floor. The cashier told them that only the owner knows the code to the safe. The men made the cashier call his boss down to the store. They also robbed Carisi while they waited. They took his wallet, phone, watch, and wedding ring. Carisi tried to warn them that the courthouse was nearby.
He said there would be a lot of cops in the area and the men refused to leave. They didn’t want to leave until they had stolen everything of value. They were waiting for the store owner when Benson went looking for Carisi.
They had a meeting that day involving one of Benson’s cases. Benson tried calling Carisi when she realized he was running late. He didn’t return her calls and so she found out from Clancy which bodega he uses. Benson went there to see Carisi flip the sign to close. She saw the gunmen.
They luckily didn’t see her. Benson called for backup. The whole store was surrounded by cops within minutes. There was no way the gunmen were getting away. They lost their chance to flee. Benson also notified Carisi’s wife.
Rollins left her meeting to rush down to the scene. The cops tried calling the bodega. The gunmen didn’t want to answer the phone and the cashier was getting antsy. Ali has survived a war zone.
He thought he was strong enough to stand up to the gunmen. He answered the phone and that’s when one of them identified as Boyd shot him. Ali needed serious medical attention. Carisi was doing his best by applying pressure to the wound, but it wasn’t going to be enough if they were stuck in that store for hours.
The gunmen also found out Carisi was an Assistant District Attorney. They found his business card in his wallet. He gave them his pin to his debit card and he unfortunately used that same pin to his cell phone. The gunmen were able to access it. They were going to steal everything from him.
Boyd was the dangerous one. He was unstable. He shot Ali. He hit Carisi when Carisi tried to stop him from raping one of the hostages. Boyd didn’t care about anything. He came up with a plan to get to a private airfield and they were going to fly to a non-extradition country.
Carisi helped them choose a location. He hoped that by helping them, they’d be manageable. Deonte was fine. Body was a problematic the whole time and he wanted to take Carisi with them as a hostage.
Carisi tried to get Deonte to get his friend to stop. Only Deonte was afraid of Boyd. He said Boyd couldn’t be controlled once he started drinking. Boyd was still assaulting the hostage when Ali died from his injuries. The men were now on the hook for rape and murder. The gunmen found out Carisi was a former cop. That he was close friends with his old boss, a police captain.
They knew the cops would get them the escort to the airfield. What they didn’t know was that the cops identified them. One of the women could make phone calls from her smartwatch.
Carisi passed on information before they were caught. The men were Deonte Mosley and Boyd Lynch. The latter went away for sexual assault and fraud. Deonte was a petty thief. They were cellmates in prison together. Boyd protected Deonte in prison. He wouldn’t have survived without him and so he felt he still owed Body for protecting him.
The two men finally got in contact with the police. The cops needed a sign of good faith before they could get the men an escort. They sent out Tess and she was getting medical treatment.
Benson wanted to exchange herself for Carisi only Carisi couldn’t put her in that position. He fought with Boyd inside of the store. Boyd was going to kill him when Deonte shot Boyd. Deonte finally had enough of the chaos that was his friend. Deonte turned himself in after that. He thought Carisi would help him and Carisi reminded Deonte that he didn’t help either Ali or Tess.
They all got hurt on Deonte’s watch. He could have stopped his friend at any time. He only turned on Boyd because Boyd said their plan was never going to work.
He told Deonte that they were going back to prison and Deonte shot him to help to save himself. He was claiming self-defense. He said Boyd forced him into going along with him. And he failed to see that three people are traumatized because of him.
And in spite of everything, Carisi still got the flowers for Clancy’s birthday.
THE END!
