Zach recently had surgery to replace a broken shunt. He was now in recovery from that surgery. He was feeling better every day and he wanted to do something nice for his wife, Tori. Tori went through a lot being at his side. His surgery was scary for her. She wasn’t sure if he would survive it at one point and so Zach thought it would be great for her to go on a girls trip. Somewhere nice where she didn’t have to worry about the kids or her husband. She could go have fun with her friends. Tori does a lot for her family. She tried to give Zach a list of things to do when she’s gone and the list was overwhelming.

Tori’s clean wasn’t the same as Zach’s clean. She wants Zach to clean the way she cleans when she’s gone. She also pre-wrote their son’s lunch notes everyday for the week she’s gone. Tori writes Jackson notes every day. She didn’t think he noticed it because he never said anything. She stopped writing the notes and Zach saw Jackson writing his own notes like they were from his mom. Zach as well as the other kids at school all read their notes from their moms together. And so the notes are a big deal for him.

Tori still gets teary-eyed hearing that Jackson was writing his own notes. She was especially sad when she heard from her husband that the note said “I Love You”. She thought her son might end up in therapy because of it. Which was she was so religious about the notes. Tori also included on her list little things like when the lasagna she put in the freezer should be warmed up or not to forget to do homework with Jackson every night. Tori was usually the one dealing with the kids’ schedules. She reminded Zach to spend quality with each of the three kids before bed so that no one feels left out.

Zach felt sure he could remember everything. Then his wife left for her trip. Jackson and Lilah woke up moody. They didn’t like the changes to their morning routine that Zach made. Jackson didn’t like his dad doing his hair. They were running late for school. Zach favored efficiency over quality. He said Tori favored quality over efficiency. He thought his way was better until he remembered he forgot Jackson’s much loved lunch note. He knew how important it was to both Tori and Jackson. And he knew that Tori would feel judged by the other moms if Jackson didn’t have a note at school.

Zach was like his dad in a way. They rush ahead. They needed people to kindly put up boundaries so that they remember everything and consider all the repercussions. Zach had Tori. Matt has Caryn. Caryn and Matt were building their dream home on the farm. The house was coming along beautifully. Matt made some decisions while Caryn was out of town and so she had to help to consider everything realistically. Caryn said she had taken on the role after Amy. And that it was for Matt’s own good.

Without Tori, Zach started getting ideas. He said they need a new sofa for another part of the house. His and Tori’s styles are very different. He thought that if he got a sofa without her that she would come to tolerate it rather than hate it. Zach failed to realize that taking three kids shopping was going to be an uphill battle. The kids started acting out. Lilah and Jackson were pushing each other around. Tori was really good at disciplining them even if they were in public. The kids knew not to act up around her. They didn’t have that same attitude with their father.

Zach kept trying to calm them down, but nothing worked until the store owner gave the kids their own balloons. Zach forgot to tie the ballon to their wrist so that they don’t lose it. Lilah lost her balloon on the way to the car. Zach tried to tell her to say bye bye to it and Lilah was furious. They also had to deal with daylight savings time while Tori was away. The children once more woke up in a mood. They were late two days in a row with dropping off Jackson for school. Zach forgot the lunch notes twice. Zach wasn’t really efficient when you really thought about it.

His dad was also working with both Caryn and Amy to put together Amy’s fundraiser. Amy loves a fundraiser because she likes to give back to the community. Her new husband wanted to help out as well and have this be their first joint fundraiser. Only Amy using the farm for it was a problem. She kept butting heads with her ex-husband about everything. They argued when the event should be. They argued where on the farm it should be. They argued about games. Matt looked to Chris for help. Amy looked for Caryn for help.

And then Tori returned home to save everyone from dad’s way of doing things.

THE END
