In tonight’s Little People, Big World episode, Matt and Caryn are engaged. They finally got engaged after several years of dating. They told their families and most of the kids congratulated Matt about his upcoming marriage. It was just Zach who didn’t respond. Zach was still angry with his father. They had a falling out over the farm.
Zach wanted to inherit it and he didn’t like that his father treated the farm like a business. He wanted Zach to pay full price. He wanted Zach to have a plan for his share of the farm. Zach didn’t really have that because he wanted to buy into the farm for sentimental reasons and that wasn’t good enough for his father.
Naturally, Zach’s wife chose his side in the matter. Tori and Zach have distanced themselves from Matt as well as Caryn. They weren’t visiting the farm like they used to. They weren’t inviting the couple over. Time seemed to widen the rift instead of heal it. It was getting to the point that the grandparents weren’t invited over for the grandkids special moments.
Jackson had a soccer party the other day with his friends. His friends’ parents were there. Matt and Caryn would normally have been invited. The party would have been at the farm in the old days.
It wasn’t like that now. They just stopped visiting. They haven’t called Matt. Matt hasn’t seen them in a while. He was missing out on the grandchildren and their special moments. He also wasn’t seeing his own child that much. Most of Zach’s family have birthdays that fall within a month span.
The only one that didn’t fit was Lilah. Her birthday was in a different season and so they wanted to do something special for Lilah. Tori took her out for some mother/daughter time. They went shopping. Lilah got new toys. Lilah enjoyed it.
The toddler was pretty easygoing when her mom was there. It was when mom wasn’t there that she started to act up. She would get into fights with Jackson. She would throw tantrums.
Zach realized not to take her furniture shopping without Tori. Only Tori used to have a relationship with Caryn. They seemed to like each other and got along just fine. It’s sad that their relationship has also been affected by the rift between Matt and Zach. And so to not even congratulate on their engagement seemed petty.
Zach seemed petty. He refused to discuss his father’s engagement with the camera crew. He briefly mentioned that were some negative emotions involved and he wouldn’t explain why. Does he not like Caryn? Was he simply tolerating Caryn this whole time? He wouldn’t say and the camera crew wouldn’t push. He said if Matt wants to see his grandkids that he can come visit them. He said he wouldn’t stop his father from visiting. He then followed that up by doing something nice. He had Matt over for Josiah’s first birthday.
Amy and Chris were there too.
Amy and Chris have recently started shopping for property. They wanted to have a place where they could throw events. Something like Matt’s farm. They wanted enough space to act as a wedding venue and they wanted a house attached because to hold guests. Amy has been down this route before. She knows what she’s looking for. Chris was a little more flexible. He was prepared to undergo some construction. He’s always had a entrepreneurial spirit. He wouldn’t mind them having a business.
Chris tried to talk Amy into a ten thousand sq foot house. Amy tried not to say no right away. She was used to being someone that has to say no. She was married to Matt for a long time. He never wanted her input on anything and he was a constant dreamer. Amy fell into the role of having to say no because they needed someone to be realistic. She doesn’t want to do that with her new marriage. Or with Chris’s dreams. She wants to ease him into certain realities. She also didn’t mind him getting Matt’s input on what he wants to do.
Amy doesn’t really want to buy into a big house. She thought they were at an age to downsize. She felt that the large property would demand a lot of maintenance and that it would be taxing on Chris if he had to check the property day after day. The couple later had Matt and Caryn over for dinner. They were still putting together a fundraiser at the farm. They wanted to cover logistics. Amy also got to see Caryn’s ring for the first time. Chris had warned her that Caryn’s ring was bigger. And Amy didn’t mind because her ring came with a story.
Amy congratulated them on their engagement. She made a joke. It wasn’t insensitive and everyone laughed. Amy and Chris also got Matt’s take on the property Chris wanted to buy. Matt tried to warn them about certain issues. He did the same with their fundraiser. He and Amy butt heads over it. Caryn took Amy’s side. Chris took Matt’s side. Both sides calmed down. Amy chose to do things her way and she ignored Matt’s take.
And Zach still hasn’t congratulated by the end of episode.
THE END!
