NCIS fans are getting increasingly excited about the prequel, NCIS: Origins, which is set to premiere on CBS soon. The new series centers on the years before NCIS and follows the beginning of Leroy Jethro Gibbs’s career as a special agent at the NCIS Camp Pendleton office.

Austin Stowell has been cast as a young Gibbs, and many avid NCIS viewers can’t wait to see the character’s original story unfold.

If that’s not enough, looks like actor Mark Harmon is about to reprise his legendary NCIS role sometime during the show’s premiere.

NCIS: Origins Premiere Spoilers: Showrunner Spills All

As per TV Line, Origins’ co-showrunner, David J. North recently talked about Harmon appearing on the very first show, during a panel discussion about the series’ premiere.

North states that the appearance was discussed with Mark, the other co-showrunner (Gina Monreal), and himself. North reveals that he hopes the audience will be “excited” to see Harmon after all these years.

This will be the first time Harmon has played his NCIS Gibbs character since early Season 19 when Jethro decided to stay in Alaska.

NCIS: Origins Premiere Spoilers: Is This An Ongoing Thing?

While Harmon isn’t seen onscreen as Gibbs in NCIS currently, he’s the executive producer of both the mothership show and this new prequel series. He’s also set to be the narrator of Origins, so even though fans won’t see his face weekly, they’ll hear his voice.

While Harmon won’t appear on the show weekly, or even often, it does seem possible that a appearance could happen every now and again.

As he’s so actively involved behind the scenes of Origins, another guest stint isn’t completely out of the question, so fans will have to wait and see.

NCIS: Origins is set to premiere on Monday, October 14 at 8 p.m. ET, for a special two-hour episode on CBS. After that, it will continue to air on Mondays, starting at 10 p.m. ET.
