In tonight’s NCIS episode, McGee’s family started an online genealogy. It was his wife’s idea. They thought they could discover their heritage together and Delilah wasn’t wrong in convincing McGee into doing it as well. He found out he has some Danish ancestry. He also learned he has a secret half-sister.
Her name is Lauren Redding. DNA doesn’t lie. She’s his sister and McGee didn’t know about her until he read about their family connection. He naturally assumed his father must have cheated, but there were bigger things to worry about. NCIS was alerted that one of their own could be involved in a murder stateside.
The agent involved was NCIS Special Agent Chen. He works out of the Far East Office. He disappeared during the middle of an investigation and then his service weapon was used to murder someone. This someone being in Virginia. NCIS came to believe that Chen was still alive. They wanted to talk to him and it was proving hard to find him.
They then tried contacting his boss in the Far East Office only to learn he too was missing in action. NCIS Special Agent in Charge Feng Zhao was off the grid and there’s no telling if he was involved in whatever Chen was doing.
Only Zhao’s disappearance was a personal matter for NCIS Special Agent Jessica Knight. Zhao was her father. She thought he was safe at a desk and so hearing he disappeared sent her into a panic.
She kept calling him. She left him messages. She was hoping he would reach out to her if no one else. She wasn’t hearing back from him and the investigation into Chen was moving ahead. Chen disappeared off of a ship. He was undercover with a drugs operation when he went missing. He was assumed dead until the body showed up stateside.
The victim was a pilot operating out of the far east. NCIS was theorizing that Chen got this pilot to give him a ride stateside where he tried to cover his tracks.
They figured he must have killed the pilot to try and hide that he was back in the country as well as who else was on the flight. The team tracked Chen down to a cabin. They actually found his body inside. They spotted someone running from the scene and they followed this person until they were able to corner him. And that’s when he revealed he was Knight’s father.
Zhao didn’t kill Chen. He said Chen was still on that vessel when he reported he had to help a woman. He said she was in danger and he couldn’t leave her behind. The call got dropped after that. Chen used an explosive to blow a hole through the ship. He escaped on a lifeboat with the woman.
They got on a plane back stateside and he called Zhao to meet him at the cabin. By time Zhao showed up, Chen was dead. The mystery woman was gone. He had no idea what happened and so he ran when he heard people coming up the drive. He thought it could be the killers.
Zhao was detained. He was questioned by Director Vance. He thankfully had nothing to hide because he told Vance everything. Zhao was then put in charge of cleaning up his mess. It was his job to keep Chen in line and Chen went off the rails on his watch. Zhao has to clean it up or he risks finding himself out of a job.
He has to find Chen’s killer. The Virginia office was going to assist him with apprehending the killer. Knight meanwhile went from being concerned about her father to being angry at him for not returning her calls.
She was sitting on a soap box until Jimmy showed up. Jimmy introduced himself to Zhao and the man didn’t recognize him or his name. Knight seems to have kept her boyfriend a secret. It was one thing to not mention Jimmy at the start of their relationship, but things were getting serious. She should have told her father by now.
Jimmy thought she told her father when he noticed that Zhao doesn’t recognize him in the slightest. He was very hurt by that. Zhao also figured out who Jimmy was by him being so nice to him.
Zhao even looked into him when they started following Chen’s last movements. He found out Jimmy was a single father. He tried to remind his daughter about the “plan” and she told him to focus on the case. They found out Chen had lunch with the mystery woman. There was security footage of the two together. They got a photo of the woman.
Kasie also used facial recognition to identify her. While she was waiting for results, she was able to give McGee some good news. His father didn’t cheat on his mother. His father was a sperm donor for a lesbian couple in Denmark.
Admiral McGee helped a couple start a family. He was a good guy. He did a good thing. McGee also has to tell his full-sister about their half-sister and things were going to go easier now that they know she wasn’t an affair child. Anyways, the case took a turn when Knight and her father noticed they were being followed.
They tried to capture this man when he consumed a suicide pill designed as a jacket button. He killed himself. The team figured out he was tracking them because he too wanted to find the missing woman involved with Chen.
They had to get to the woman first. They later tracked her down to a motel. They brought her in and she would only talk to Zhao. The woman was Dr. Mei Li. She was a food scientist in China.
She found out that the Chinese were making a virus to be far deadlier than covid. She stole the virus and she tried to get stateside where she could help the Americans create a cure. She was paying to be smuggled on the drug vessel when she came across Chen. Chen agreed to help her. He got her back stateside and then he gets killed.
Mei goes on the run. She thought she had the virus in a secure lockbox in her backpack, but NCIS searched her when they found her and her backpack didn’t have the lockbox or the virus. It turns out that the Chinese outsourced to a fast food manager to steal the virus from Mei. NCIS caught up to him first. They switched out the virus with chicken soup. They watched him as he went to his deal with the Chinese. And then everyone got arrested.
Knight’s father was thinking about retirement. He nominated Knight to fill his spot because their “plan” was for her to work her way up to Director of NCIS. Zhao didn’t believe Jimmy fit the plan. Its why Knight was keeping Jimmy a secret in the first place.
She was happy with her life. She no longer cares about the plan. She explained to Jimmy about it and he stopped being upset. And later she officially introduced him to her father as her boyfriend.
And even McGee met with his half-sister.
THE END!
