In tonight’s NCIS episode, It’s Halloween! NCIS were hoping to head home early when they got a call about a brawl. The brawl involved Navy SEAL Lieutenant Bryce Prescott. He came home one day to find a bunch of strangers there and they claimed they were throwing a surprise party for Hal. Hal being the real owner.
Only Hal doesn’t live there. He was a squatter. He moved himself in once Bryce was deployed. NCIS suspected he was hiding now that the real homeowner returned and they were wrong about that. Hal didn’t get a chance to move out. He was murdered in the house. The house he didn’t own and one his friends felt belonged to him. And not to the lieutenant.
Bryce proved he was the homeowner. He also had to prove that he just came back stateside. He doesn’t know Hal was or what he was doing in his house. He just wanted to go to sleep.
Yet, the murder investigation put a stop to all plans of relaxation. Hal was found murdered in the basement. He was bludgeoned to death. He was doing secret construction at Bryce’s house and that wasn’t the worst of it. Hal was not his real name. His real name was Felix Pitts. He has a record. He was going by an assumed name and was squatting in a house he didn’t own.
No one knows what he was up to. The people at the surprise party were all Mary’s friends. She was Hal’s girlfriend. She hadn’t been dating the victim for long. They were still in the honeymoon phase. The only troubling sign was when “Hal” ran into an old friend. The friend went by the nickname “Big Bark”.
Hal owned the guy money. The two were apparently cellmates. Big Bark loaned Hal a lot of money. Hal kept saying he’d pay him back only Big Bark found out he was renting that house. He figured if he had enough money to do that then he could also pay off his debt.
NCIS didn’t know Hal was renting. Bryce didn’t put it up for rent. He inherited the house from his grandmother and he hasn’t changed anything since he moved in. Bryce just left out one little detail.
He didn’t mention his grandmother is Wanda Prescott. She was the wife of billionaire, Gavin Prescott. Gavin was worth two billion at his death. He was considered a bit eccentric. He donated lots of money. He died a few years ago and his wife inherited the old house. His wife Wanda was an antiques dealer. She left the house for her grandson.
Wanda had no clue that someone put the house for rent under her name. The person that did that was her money manager. Leonard felt he was underpaid. He was trying to make some extra cash by putting the house for sale while its new owner was deployed. As for Bryce, he was a good guy. He wanted to make it in the world on his own.
The only thing he was willing to accept from grandma was the house he was raised in. He was the best of the grandchildren. The other grandchildren don’t bother to call or visit. And that’s why Leonard didn’t place their houses for rent.
Leonard got the whole idea when a squatter moved into the family’s cabin. They got the person out. Someone not being Leonard put the house for rent as a spooky cabin and Hal was connected to that house as well. Hal was a firm believer in get rich quick schemes. He’s been breaking into the Prescott’s homes looking for treasure.
Its why he started construction at Bryce’s home. He was trying to rob the place of all valuables. It was just his luck that none of that was found in Bryce’s home because he didn’t care about the money.
Hal got the idea from a magazine article. It was an interview with Gavin and Wanda. Gavin accidentally said he had hidden treasures all throughout the house. He meant mementos. Things that reminded him of his children, but he was eccentric and people started to believe they could get rich by robbing the house.
There were so many break-ins that Gavin spent a fortune to pull the article. The magazine issue was supposed to have disappeared for good and so Wanda was curious how Hal found it.
They found that article along with other evidence in Hal’s storage locker. He really thought he could get rich by robbing the homes. He was killed before he realized how dumb he was and no one knew who put the cabin for rent.
The cabin wasn’t haunted or anything. There was a fire in the 80s. Its since been rebuilt. It was only known for being haunted because Gavin was messing around one day. He claimed it was haunted. People began to believe it was haunted. It kept most people away and so its odd that it would be put up for rent. Or that NCIS found Mary robbing the place.
Mary was Hal’s girlfriend, remember. She claimed she didn’t know anything about his secret life. She was arrested for the robbery and she revealed all. She loaned Hall nine hundred dollars to rent the house.
Hal didn’t find the treasure he was looking for. She thought she could cheer him up by throwing him the party. She really didn’t know he was already dead when she invited her friends to the party. She robbed the cabin because she was trying to get back some of the money she loaned Hal.
Hal’s real killer was the courier deliveryman. Phil noticed that Hal was buying treasure seeking tools. He demanded a cut for his silence and, when Hal never found the treasure, Phil came to believe that Hal was deliberating hiding it from him.
They got into a fight. Phil killed Hal. Plus, the treasure that Mary found was just a box full of mementos. Its’ what Gavin meant by using the word “treasure”. The box was returned to Wanda and she cried when she saw it.
And the team later repurposed Ducky’s old office. They turned it into a multipurpose hangout room. The whole team was celebrating while McGee was continuing to carry out a secret investigation into the new Deputy Director.
THE END!
