Fans of S.W.A.T. were recently disheartened to learn that the show had been canceled, as CBS announced its series finale would take place on Friday, May 17. Still, it may feel a lot like Ground Hog Day for supporters of the drama, as the network reversed its cancellation decision, renewing the show for another season.
S.W.A.T. Gets Another Season – CBS’s Announcement
Amy Reisenbach, CBS Entertainment President released an official statement for the show noting that at the network, they always “stay liquid” and love a “dramatic twist”, especially when it leads to an eighth season of S.W.A.T.
She goes on to say that the series continues to resonate with fans thanks to the talented cast, which is lead by Shemar Moore, along with incredible producers and writers who keep the primetime drama “action-packed” and “relevant”.
The statement also notes that the network is pleased to renew S.W.A.T. again and is grateful to their partners at CBS Studios and Sony, as well as Shemar, for working closely with CBS to bring S.W.A.T. back for another season.
S.W.A.T. History Repeating Itself
This all feels like déjà vu, as CBS was initially going to call it quits on S.W.A.T. after six seasons around this time, last year. Much like what happened recently, the network announced its decision to cancel the drama series, and less than 72 hours later, they reversed their decision and renewed it for a seventh season; one that many thought would be the show’s last hooray.
S.W.A.T.’s Executive Producer/Co-Showrunner, Shawn Ryan recently released a statement saying it’s a “privilege” to deliver more stories to our “incredible fans”.
He goes on to relay that the Season 8 renewal is a testament to S.W.A.T.’s showrunner, Andy Dettmann, as well as Shemar Moore, and the rest of the show’s talented cast and committed crew who produce TV that resonates with so many. He adds that they are grateful to CBS, CBS Studios, and Sony for the opportunity.
In addition, Moore, who not only stars in the show but also acts as Executive Producer, released a comment stating that the show “IS BACK”, noting “BELIEVE IN MIRACLES”.
Shemar adds that he is so proud of the series and the people who have made S.W.A.T. what it has become. He also notes he’s grateful to the fans who have watched, supported, rooted, and enjoyed the show. Moore states it’s because of this that S.W.A.T. will continue to shine.
