In tonight’s S.W.A.T. episode, Deac plans on retiring. Or he was until Luca got shot. Luca was forced to leave the team. He can’t come back and Deac didn’t want to abandon his friends when they need him most. Only he was needed at home. He was only considering retiring because his family has been struggling since Annie returned to work.
The kids weren’t doing well with two working parents. They were used to someone being there for them whenever they need and Deac couldn’t ask his wife to give up her job when she already did that. She left law school when they got married. She stayed at home with the kids. And it was years before she realized she needed something more.
Annie has always put her family first. She agreed to go back to the law school because Deac encouraged her to. He saw how much she needed it. He loved his wife too much to tell her to give up her dream a second time.
She’s always put Deac first. It was now his turn to be there for his family and he was torn about what to do. He didn’t want his family to suffer. He also didn’t want his team to suffer. Deac hasn’t talked to Hondo about his mindset or the possibility of retirement. Hondo first heard about it from Nichelle.
Nichelle had lunch with Annie. They talked. Annie mentioned that Deac was retiring. Its the last thing her husband told her and so she didn’t think it was a secret to guard. Well, Nichelle later brought it up to Hondo because she thought Deac had already mentioned it to him. Hondo said that wasn’t the case.
He was surprised to hear that Deac was even considering retiring. Nichelle tried to downplay it once she saw that Hondo didn’t hear anything from Deac and Hondo didn’t buy it. He brought it up with Deac when they became involved in a hostage situation.
Some doomsday preppers kidnapped a waitress. The preppers were Jeb and Grant Webber. They were brothers. Their whole family were doomsday preppers.
They thought the government was going to collapse and so Jeb kidnapped his ex-girlfriend because he was still in love with her. He wanted to save her. She knew he was crazy. She didn’t want to go with him and a sheriff’s deputy tried to intervene. The brothers shot the deputy. Grant took the whole diner hostage. And Jeb disappeared with Kat before he could be stopped.
SWAT was able to take down Grant without anyone else getting hurt. They then went to the Webber Compound to find Kat. There were cameras everywhere.
There was an electric fence surrounding the whole property. The owner was Calvin Webber. He was the father of Jeb and Grant. There was no wife in the picture. Infrared cameras showed that there were four others in the building besides Calvin, Jeb, and Kat. They sent in their drone. The drone was eventually shot down by a man they identified as Adam Edwards.
Edwards has a long rap sheet. He was a very violent man. There was also a warrant out for his arrest. He shot his ex-wife earlier that morning and he disappeared with their two kids.
The ex was fighting for her life in surgery. The kids must be the other people they saw in the house. Edwards was also dating Calvin’s only daughter, Beth. No one treats Beth with any respect in that family. Calvin craps on her because he didn’t think she was as important as her brothers. Edwards likes to beat her if she ever questions or annoys him.
Beth became very important once Deac entered the house with his team. They got to Kat. They got Edwards’s young son. Deac told the others to go with the hostages and he would get Edwards’s daughter. He spotted her nearby. He was going to try and save her. The girl became Calvin’s hostage.
He used her as a human shield until Edwards could sneak up behind Deac. They took Deac hostage. They were threatening to kill him if people didn’t leave the property. They still thought the world was going to end. They genuinely thought the police would leave if they waited them out.
They believe that the police will get called away if the looting starts. Deac knew that wasn’t going to happen. The same goes for the journalist that’s been preparing a story on the family for months.
The journalist has built a rapport with Calvin. They sent her to the house to do an interview with him. Tran acted as her cameraman. He got footage of inside the house. He also got footage of the entrance to the bunker. The journalist came in handy a second time. She told the team all about Calvin’s backup power system.
Deac had tried to escape. He was stopped. There was a gun that went off and so Deac bonded with Beth. He told her what happened to Edwards’s ex-wife. He spotted the bruises on her arm. His team checked up on him after the gun went off. They told him to aim for the fuse box. Deac got Beth to do it.
She was almost caught and she never once tried to protect herself. She instead tried to protect the little girl. The Webbers all survived the police breaching the bunker. Edwards was killed. And Hicks was going to put in a good word for Beth because they all thought she didn’t deserve prison time.
Tran got a date with the journalist who was very beautiful. Hondo and Deac meanwhile discussed his retiring. They talked about it at the start of the standoff and they talked about it after Deac was freed. He said he still wasn’t sure about what to do. Hondo told him to choose what was best for his family. Hicks’s words had the same message.
And Powell later met her son for the first time.
THE END!
