In tonight’s Sister Wives episode, Kody was no longer a polygamist. He divorced three of his four wives. He was now married to just one woman and it happened to be his favorite. Yes, Robyn was his favorite.
The favoritism came out during the pandemic. It’s why the other wives ultimately left him. Christine quit the marriage loudly. Meri has had one foot out the door for years. Janelle was a quiet quitter. She basically told everyone that she was considering moving in with her daughter and her daughter’s family. She implied she was leaving Kody without ever saying so out loud.
Neither Janelle nor Christine sought a spiritual divorce through their church. They simply left. They considered themselves divorced and that was it. Meri was the first wife.
She had an actual marriage certificate. She also had an official divorce from Kody. Kody exes were done with him. They now wanted what they were owed and Kody was playing around with giving them answers. The family brought a large property in Coyote Pass. It was supposed to be divided up equally. The family all put in money on the property.
If the loan falls through, their other properties can be seized. This was a huge concern for Janelle. She wanted paperwork. She wanted to see that the mortgage was getting paid.
She kept asking Kody for answers and he refused to cooperate with her. He was still hurt she left him. He failed to see the part he played in their divorce. Or how it was impacting his relationship with his children. His adult children were barely talking to him. He stopped all contact with Maddie because Maddie refused to kiss up to him.
Maddie was like her mother. She wanted to see paperwork. She wanted to know how much was in the bank and where it was going. Kody said he didn’t owe them anything.
He refused to talk to Janelle after she told him she was leaving him. He doesn’t want any of his exes to live out on the property they all bought together. He just wants to be done with them. It’s one of the reasons why Janelle considering leaving the state. Her daughter want to live in Montana with her family. They wanted to buy up land and build there.
There would be plenty of room for Janelle. There would be space for the rest of the family when they came to visit. Janelle was currently living in Flagstaff. She wasn’t in communication with anyone there and so she couldn’t wait to move. Janelle didn’t tell Kody what she was doing. Kody didn’t care to check in with her. Kody blames his ex-wives for his fractured relationship with his children. He failed to see that he was treating them so horribly that the adult kids beg their moms to leave him.
The kids didn’t change their numbers or block his. Kody could easily reach out to them. He could listen to them and not judge them for reacting to his insult. He treated them horribly.
He prioritized his boys over his girls. It worked for a while until Robyn entered the picture. Kody began prioritizing her over everyone else and no kid was going to ignore that insult. Especially not in a polygamist family. Kody’s family was happy in Las Vegas. They each had their own properties and businesses. They built a great foundation there. And he took it away from them.
Suddenly, Kody said he wanted to move to Arizona. Flagstaff, Arizona. It was near to Robyn’s eldest college and some have insisted that Robyn sparked their move. No matter the case there was real anger towards Kody when he told everyone they were moving the family. He wanted to move kids in high school. He wanted to take younger kids away from their friends and doctors. Kody’s daughter Ysbael suffered from scoliosis. Kody stopped paying any kind of attention to her. He wouldn’t even travel with her when she had surgery on her back.
Kody also quit his marriage to Meri. He stopped talking to her. He stopped being intimate with her. She sought love somewhere else and she got catfished. Kody then used that situation to say they can never get back together. Only he didn’t call it quits right away. He strung Meri along for years under the belief they could reconcile one day. He stopped doing that when the family broke apart. Meri was now trying to detangle herself from Kody. She also was the only one that sought a religious divorce because she’s not closing the door on getting remarried one day.
Funny enough, Kody’s marriage with Janelle also fell apart due to a lack of communication. He had tried to tell her to cut off their older sons for not listening to him and she told him to screw himself. Janelle realized she didn’t need him. She would walk away easily if money wasn’t involved. She has always been the money person in the house.
It’s what she had in common with Kody. They handle the finances. Kody kicked Janelle out of the decision making because he didn’t want her to see what he was doing. Kody mismanaging that money to make sure that Robyn was protected and no one else was the biggest middle finger he could ever give to the mothers of his children.
Janelle, Meri, and Christine all deserve recompensation for the part they played in the business. They were the ones that helped Kody to get Coyote Pass. The least he could do was make them an offer on their property.
And to make matters worse, Robyn’s children were no longer talking to either Janelle or Christine’s kids because they said they’ve been ostracized by their stepsiblings.
