In tonight’s Sister Wives episode, the family is broken. Three out of four wives have walked out on Kody. Kody’s relationship with his children was also fractured. One of his daughters that he shared with Christine was about to give birth to twins. Christine was invited to the hospital. Robyn was invited to the hospital.
There was no mention of Kody because no one wanted him there. Kody has essentially given up on his adult children. It started during the pandemic and he never tried to fix it once things calm down. Kody was the person to cut someone off if he felt he wasn’t getting the respect he deserves. And he failed to see how horrible he’s been to his family.
Kody wants nothing to do with his exes now that they were exes. He couldn’t even bring himself to communicate with them on Coyote Pass. The Coyote Pass property was something they bought as a family. It was supposed to divided up into four properties. At the time, each wife was supposed to build her own home on the property.
This changed when the wives started leaving Kody. Christine walked away from the property cleanly. Janelle was hoping to leave her share of the property to her kids because she does love the property. She fell in love the second she saw it.
Meri on the other hand wants out only she didn’t know what to do about the property. Meri didn’t have family in Arizona. She has connections in Utah. She built up a life for herself in Las Vegas until Kody decided to uproot the family to Arizona. She never really had family life there. She didn’t even have Kody in Arizona.
She was on her own for most of the time and so divorce came easy to her. She approached her church leaders for a divorce. It’s called a “release” by the church. And Meri was freeing herself up to see what else was out there.
Only things remained awkward between Kody and his exes. They were all invited to a wedding. The couple asked everyone to come. Kody didn’t want to go at first because he didn’t want to be around his ex-wives.
He didn’t think it would go well. The wedding couple called him. They personally invited him and Robyn. Robyn really wanted to go and so Kody went. It was like he imagined. It was super awkward. He couldn’t bring himself to be friendly. He just acted like they were strangers at a wedding.
The only ex that Kody was somewhat friendly to was Meri. Mind you, Meri was upset with how long he dragged out their breakup. Kody never once prioritized her during the marriage or towards the end. It took him divorcing the other two wives to realize he couldn’t afford another enemy. That’s the only reason he’s now nice to Meri.
He couldn’t bring himself to be nice to Chritine or Janelle. Kody still doesn’t understand where things went wrong with Janelle. He thought they could still make their marriage work.
Kody failed to remember a few key issues. Like how he didn’t emotionally support her children. Or how he showed favoritism to Robyn’s children. Robyn has the youngest child in the family. It was Ariella who goes by Ari. Ari would sometimes beg her father not to leave her because she couldn’t understand plural family.
Kody would ask Robyn to drag her away and Robyn never did that. She wanted Ari to experience her feelings in a healthy way. She might have gone a little overboard because they weren’t a normal family.
They were a plural family. Kody didn’t have time to waste. He had other wives. He had other kids. He was cutting out time he spent with the others to be there for Ari and that bult up some resentment with the others. They felt like they couldn’t depend on their dad. They became jealous.
They also saw that their moms were missing out as well. Kody stopped sharing his time equally. Janelle was probably the nicest ex and even she called Kody and Robyn out for bad parenting. Her kids never got jealous growing up about sharing their dad with his other kids or the other mothers.
They were told by their parents that this was their family. This was their normal. Neither Robyn nor Kody prepare Robyn’s children the same way.
Kody has game nights at Robyn’s house. He was over there all the time. He lives there now that he’s divorced. He was consistently being there for her kids. No one else’s. Kody would visit Christine’s house and stay on the phone for all the two hours he was there. He was supposed to spend days there. He instead started staying long enough to claim he was there. It just didn’t carry any impact.
Kody also stopped visiting Janelle’s house all together when their adult sons moved back in. During the pandemic, the kids weren’t taking it as seriously as Kody would like.
He basically told Janelle to kick them out and she refused to do so. This was what caused the first crack in their relationship. He asked her to choose between him and their kids and she chose their kids. One of her kids saw Robyn at the wedding mentioned earlier. He hugged her. He told her missed her and that meant the world to Robyn. Robyn was good with some of the older kids.
Its why she was invited to the hospital when Mykelti had her c-section scheduled. Robyn entered the picture right as Mykelti was trying to find her place in the world and it was Robyn that made her fell seen.
Which wasn’t always easy to do in a plural family. Robyn wasn’t a bad person. The fault in the favoritism didn’t lay with her. It laid with Kody. Kody went from operating a plural family to suddenly not wanting to do that anymore. He wanted to everything to be about him. They either worshipped him or were left for dead. He never left room for a middle ground.
Robyn however stayed with Mykelti for a few days. Mykelti had two healthy boys. They have an older daughter. They needed extra hands and Robyn offered to help. Christine was right there as well. They took turns being there for Mykelti because it awkward to be around each other. And so the one missing out was Kody.
Kody didn’t bother to call or visit his newest grandchildren. Because of that, Robyn has been pressuring him to mend some bridges. He needed to speak with all of his kids. She couldn’t respect him if he gave up on his children.
THE END!
