In tonight’s Sister Wives episode, Christine was getting serious with David. They are in love. They weren’t engaged, but they were looking at venues because they both see their future together. The downside was things were moving a little too fast. Christine hasn’t been dating him long. He hasn’t met all of her children.

The younger ones were a bit worried for her. She had just left a thirty year marriage and now she was ready to jump into a next marriage and there was going to be a next marriage. They still weren’t engaged officially. It just that David got Christine’s father’s blessing to marry her. And they wanted to book a venue within the next few months.

Things were going so fast that Christine’s kids weren’t ready to see her kiss someone else. Christine and Kody’s marriage was over for a while before she left him. The younger kids were used to that. They remembered their mom being on her own for the most part. It’s the older kids that remember their parents dancing in the kitchen.

They all needed time to adjust to David. They knew polygamy. David knew it too. He was never one himself. His two sisters were polygamists. One of them got divorced. The other was separated when her husband died and became a widow.

David’s witnessed polygamy not working out. It’s one of the reasons he never pushed for it for himself. He was fine with just one wife and Christine was ready to have someone prioritize her.

Kody knew when they divorced that Christine was still looking for the love of her life. He won’t be upset when he hears about David. He was fine with her moving on. The part that gets him was that his kids weren’t talking to him. Not about David or anything else. There’s been a wall up between them and Kody doesn’t know how to knock it down.

Kody also doesn’t see the part he played in the estrangement. He didn’t grow up in polygamy. He joined as an adult and he pictured himself surrounded by family. He thought his adult children would live in homes right across the street from him. He thought his wives would never leave him.

He’s now lost three out of the four wives. He was having issues with Robyn. Most of his kids weren’t speaking to him. Kody was really depressed about the state of his life. He was wallowing so much that he genuinely did not care that Christine was about to get remarried.

She and David went ring shopping. They chose matching wedding rings. She also introduced him to Janelle. Janelle and Christine were really close. Their bond remained strong even after they stopped being sister wives. Janelle felt comfortable enough to tell Christine her own issues with Kody. Janelle left Kody.

She was also still financially entangled with Kody. The family bought land in Arizona. They have to make a payment on the loan that got them the land and Kody didn’t seem to have a plan for that. He said upfront that he doesn’t want to work with Janelle because she left him.

He said this while he was still trying to convince Janelle to reconcile. He doesn’t love her or really respect her. He wants her around so that the children he shares with her would be better disposed towards him. He said that in his confessional. Janelle said in hers that he used reconciliation to distract her from business. She wants him to buy her out of the property. She helped him get it. She now wants out. She wants what she’s owed and Kody doesn’t want to pay her. He also doesn’t want to admit where he went wrong with her.

Kody once asked her to choose between him and the kids. She chose the kids. Kody was still upset by that. He felt that buying her out of the property would give her power and he didn’t want to do that either. He felt he was the head of the family. He didn’t want to be told what to do.

The only one he was willing truly fight for was Robyn. Robyn and Janelle had a conversation about finances once. Janelle asked Robyn not to buy her property because they needed savings. The conversation seemed fine. Neither of them got angry or yelled at each other. Their issue was that Robyn told Kody the conversation and he then accused Janelle of bullying Robyn.

Janelle felt Robyn tattled on her. Robyn tried to claim she was in agreement with Janelle. Kody was firmly on Robyn’s side and that’s another reason why his marriage to Janelle didn’t work out. He never seemed to realize that he was supposed to play peacemaker instead of favorites.

Kody, in the polygamist community, was considered to be a failure. He didn’t know how to keep his wives. Christine was now ready to marry someone else. Meri was starting her new life in Utah on her family’s old property. And Janelle was ready to bring in lawyers.

Janelle told Kody that they could work it out in court. He claimed she loved playing the victim. Only he didn’t want to buy her out. He didn’t want her to build on the land.

It looks like he wants her to disappear with nothing. Janelle couldn’t leave a thirty year plus marriage with nothing. She helped him with the family finances. She put in the work and now he wants to screw her out of getting what she owes.

And so Janelle really will have to take him to court.

THE END!
