In tonight’s Station 19 episode, Beckett was back at Station 19. He wasn’t captain anymore. Andy was the new captain. Beckett was now working under her and he didn’t mind it because he was still fresh out of rehab. He was going to be riding a desk for a while.
Which he also didn’t mind because it meant he sat out the Pride Parade. Beckett has nothing against gay people. He just didn’t want to be around happiness and happiness that goes with drinking. Andy foresaw the issue. She had him riding a desk. The rest of Station 19 were to assist with the parade.
Ben’s daughter was included. Pruitt was going to be watched by her aunt. They were all dressed up. They were going to be handing out fliers and helping people to get to places. Ben was going to be nearby. He was actually talking to Maya about parenthood.
Maya and her wife have had baby Liam for a week now. It’s hectic. They were moving into a new place. They were running out of stuff. Maya also couldn’t call off work because they were short-staffed after Jack was forced to retire. And so now she was getting anxiety attacks being away from the baby.
Ben was the only other parent at Station 19. He was able to talk Maya down. He reminded her that they were heroes and that’s how their children are going to see them. They were walking down the parade when they came across protestors. Men in masks that were demanding men be men.
They were homophobes. They were shouting things. Andy was ready to fight them and Ben had to remind her she’s a captain now. She has to lead the way. Andy backed down and Maya was stunned by the protestors because she recognized one of them as her brother.
Her brother was a homophobe? Did he not know that Maya was gay or had married a woman? Maya seeing him hurl abuses at people trying to enjoy Pride had made her go numb. She didn’t know what to do. She couldn’t call their parents. Their parents were the ones that broke them as kids.
She couldn’t call Carina because she thought Carina was busy with the baby. Only she wasn’t. Carina took Liam over to Bailey and Ben’s house. Bailey has a bunch of stuff for her. She had bought herself for her second pregnancy and sadly she had a miscarriage. The extra stuff can now be Liam’s.
Montgomery ran into his dad at Pride Parade. His dad was with his longtime affair partner. They were now living in an open relationship and Montgomery was being a real jerk about. Eli was there. Eli was introduced to his dad. Then Eli pulls him aside to tell him to stop being a jerk to his dad.
That’s when Montgomery revealed his own secret. He cheated on Eli. Twice. He slept with Emmett twice. Eli was so angry at him that he told Montgomery that he’s exactly like his father. So consumed by how people see him that he was running away from his authentic self.
Vic ended up agreeing with Eli. Montgomery stopped by her tent ready to talk. She told him that the message was great even if he wasn’t in love with the messenger. Montgomery sabotaged relationships he’s worried might work. They were still talking about it when they thought they heard gunshots.
It wasn’t gunshots. It was a car backfiring. Fire Chief Ross could tell the difference. She was in the middle of arguing with the new mayor about budget cuts when the mayor freaked out about possible gunshots. And he ordered his car to get him out of there.
Unfortunately, some of the dancers found one of the protestors by himself. They ganged up on him. They were beating him when Maya called them away. She administered first aide to the guy on the ground. She also saw her brother escaping from the parade. She called out to him.
He stopped for a second and then he went right back to running. But it was him. It was her brother Mason. She also didn’t tell Andy right away because Andy thought the protestors deserved to get beat up. Most of the firefighters did their best to keep everyone safe.
Ben had to leave to safeguard his daughter and sister. Montgomery caught up to his dad. He helped his dad and his dad’s partner go to safety. This made up for him being rude earlier. It just wasn’t enough to change things with Eli. Eli dumped him.
Montgomery was good at letting other people feel seen. He now has to work on being seen himself because he couldn’t keep using other people to end relationships for him. If he’s not happy, then he should just say it to his partners. He should stop imploding everything around him.
Beckett didn’t have an easy day either. Someone came in with pain. He was on the fat losing drug and he got it by some doctor who saw him over video. Making Beckett day a little harder. After everything, Station 19 decided to do something great for Pride.
They threw a party at their firehouse. Maya missed it because she went to go spend time with her family. Carina was being sued for malpractice and yet the reasoning seems to be that she didn’t deliver a baby naturally. She ordered a c-section because the baby was in distress. And so she did everything she was supposed to do.
Montgomery’s dad showed up at the party. His dad was the one to teach Montgomery to be ashamed to be gay, but he regrets that now and he wants his son to fall in love. And be happy.
They had a great Pride party. They drowned out the noise from earlier.
THE END!
