Season Eleven kicked off with a bang on tonight’s season premiere. Rita Ora replaced longtime host, Nicole Scherzinger. This was the first time since the beginning of the show that there’s been a change among the judges. Only Nicole had prior work commitments. Rita also wasn’t so bad. She opened tonight with the theme song and was unmasked herself as Nicole’s replacement. She along with the other three got to enjoy the first five performers to take the stage. There was the Goldfish up first. The Goldfish was a woman who made a splash overnight. She reached much success. She began feeling like she was living in a fish bowl and she’s proud she kept a calm head on her shoulders.
There was lots of things in her clue package. There was a glass slipper in there. She could have played Cinderella in the past. Her performance however was the biggest clue. She performed “Vampire” by Olivia Rodrigo. She could sing. Her costume was great. Rita thought she could be Lea Michelle. They knew the Goldfish had a gold record and Glee has that. Jenny took a different route. She thought the Goldfish was Selena Gomez. Then Ken came up with a crazy idea that didn’t sound so crazy when he explained it.
Ken thought the Goldfish was Carly Rae Jepsen. He saw the steering wheel in her package. It reminded him of her song “Drive”. Carly even played Cinderella on Broadway. It was a great guess. It was just coming from Ken and no one wanted to put much stock into it. Next up was the Starfish. Starfish started out working in a bar. She was around celebrities. She simply wasn’t one until she hit it big. Starfish a four leaf clover in her package. There was a doll. There was also a lifeguard tower. Starfish biggest clue was that she shacked up with a suga momma.
Starfish performed “Material Girl” by Madonna. Her costume was adorable. The judges really came to like her and that’s why their guesses were all over the place. Rita thought she was actress Catherine O’Hara. Robin thought she was comedienne Cheri Oteri. Jenny also chose a comedienne only she thought the Starfish was Molly Shannon. The Starfish’s big clue was that she was in a series that’s been viewed over a billion minutes. Rita instantly thought of “Schitt’s Creek”. Robin thought of “SNL”. Jenny thought of “SNL” as well as “White Lotus”.
Next up was the Ugly Sweater. He was the first guy of the night. His costume was downright original. The judges have never seen anything like it before and so eyes were on him right away. Ugly Sweater revealed he hit it big in the music industry. He was performing. He then lost sight of his values and his life unraveled. The Ugly Sweater admitted he was sleeping on park benches until he reclaimed his voice. There was a rabbit in the hat clue. There was an alarm clock. There was the Blue Note Record. His voice though remained his biggest clue.
The Ugly Sweater performed “Simply the Best” by Tina Turner. He has a soulful voice. Robin couldn’t pin down which R&B performer he thought he was. Ken thought the Ugly Sweater could be Nile Rogers. He saw a train in that clue package. He knows that Nile Rogers moved into producing. He produced a record by Train. Rita thought the Ugly Sweater was Verdine White. She thought the clock was about Earth, Wind, and Fire’s song with time in it. Next up was the Lovebird. He was a hopeless romantic and that’s why he chose that costume.
Every decision in the Lovebird’s life was down to love. He’s sought it out one way or another. He had a wedding cake with just the groom in his package. He could have been left at the altar. There were cleets in that package. There was the number one on a watch. He also had amazing tone as he performed “Home” by Phillip Phillips. His final clue was that he was a leading man. Ken thought Travis Kelce because Travis plays football. He also was one a dating show.. Rita thought he was Odell Beckham Jr because those two things that Ken mentioned could also stand for Odell. Jenny thought he could be a former Bachelor with her Nick Viall pick.
The final performer was not a singer at all. The Book could not sing. He had to talk through his performance of “So Sick” by Ne-Yo. He also had a huge clue package. He had a ghost. He mentioned pranking a friend this season. He chose his costume because he has a bestseller. He chose his song because he wanted to choose a song from last season’s winner. Robin thought instantly of Kevin Hart. Right after he said it, the Book unmasked himself to reveal Robin was right. He was Kevin Hart. And his comedy style could fool no one.
Kevin’s prank was on Nick Cannon and Nick did not see it coming.
