Officer John Nolan took his lovely new bride on a honeymoon. They booked a luxury villa in a tropical place. The villa was a bit on the downside because the hotel used AI photos to sell their rooms. The hotel was in the red after the last few hurricanes and they thought blatant fraud would help them recover. It didn’t work on most people, but it worked on Nolan. He’s the one that booked the villa. He also had to apologize to Bailey once they began hearing weird noises. The hotel owner said it was possums. He said it could be a mating sound or a killing sound. The only thing he was sure about was that it was possums. And that the couple had nothing to worry about.

The couple tried to look on the bright side. Nolan went all out on cameras. There was an underwater camera for snorkeling. There was a head camera for ziplining. There was even Bailey recording everything on her cell phone. They were well-prepared for everything and anything. Which saved their lives in the end. Nolan ended up needing a surveillance camera for a guy that gave him an odd feeling. Nolan met a guy whose face was bandaged up. He saw this guy on the hotel’s beach and he thought a bandaged face was odd.

He later introduced himself. The other man claimed his name was Dean. Nolan didn’t believe him. He thought Dean was hiding something and his wife did her best to convince him to let go of the mystery. They were on their honeymoon. They had a lot of fun activities planned. She didn’t care why a guy might have gotten massive plastic surgery only to stay at a crappy hotel in recovery. Bailey was ready to drop it. Nolan still set up their night cam in their rooms because he figured why not. And the night cam showed that someone stopped by their room in the middle of the night.

Nolan believed it to be this “Dean”. Bailey thought maybe it could have been staff checking the ground. The two of them were still creeped out. They were ready to ditch the hotel. They were going to try honeymooning somewhere else. Nolan even promised to find the most boring place on earth where they could have fun. There was just one problem with leaving. There was no ferry. The ferry schedule was spotty along with the Wi-Fi and electricity. There was no way they could call for help if they really got into trouble and so they were stuck on this unnamed island.

Meanwhile everyone back home was dealing with Nolan’s probie. Nolan was a training officer. His trainee was new to LAPD and she was also recently in an intense situation. She watched her friend/fellow officer get shot. The whole city went on lockdown. She recovers from her injury to return to work, but then she breaks protocol trying to impress Detective Harper. There was a lot of attention put on Aaron when he came back that people forgot Celina was dealing with PTSD as well. And now people are trying to fix that.

Officer Celina Juarez had to ride with Sergeant Bradford for a shift. He was in charge of keeping an eye on her. He also was helping Officer Chen to study for her exam and so he had a few ground rules. They couldn’t discuss their star charts or anything related to astrology in his car. They tried to discuss the awkward situation at the wedding between Celina and Aaron and Bradford put his foot down on that too. He didn’t want to listen to gossip. He was there to train Celina while Nolan was away on his honeymoon.

The three of them responded to a bit of light stealing from a convenience store. Their suspect was still there. He was bleeding from a head wound and a wound to his arm. He claimed not to know who he was or what happened to him. He was still wearing an ID badge. Brandford told him he was Jonathan Knight. He also refused to believe the man’s story that he couldn’t remember anything. They were forced to bring Jonathan to a hospital once he started vomiting everywhere. He was there for a while before he started thinking he was a spy and that his partner was in danger.

Jonathan couldn’t remember anything else. Bradford still thought the guy was lying. Only Chen said his thing about his partner being in trouble sounded like a grain of truth. Bradford said if Jonathan was a spy that someone would have flagged it when they ran his credentials. Chen eventually got caught up with her detective exam. They moved it up. She raced down there to learn that there was a line and that she has to wait hours before she could do the exam. The waiting was what’s going to kill her.

Bradford had to get Celina a second shift after Harper and Lopez went south. Nolan called them after he and his new bride found a body washed up on the beach. Their cell reception was spotty. All they could get through to their friends was “dead body” and “suspect”. Nolan suspected Dean of the murder. He was trying to investigate on his own when he left Bailey alone. She got kidnapped. Nolan was missing. The detectives showed up on a tropical island hearing screams. They thankfully brough along their weapons and were brandishing them as they rushed into danger.

They found Nolan’s surveillance cameras. The ones he set up in Dean’s room. Dean took his victims back there and he planned on killing all of them when by luck his gun backfired. Dean had killed the hotel owner. He would have killed the man’s daughter, Nolan, and Bailey if that gun hadn’t backfired. Nolan used that moment to break free from his restraints. He took on Dean. He was able to take him down in hand to hand combat. When the detectives showed up, they had everything under control and they were all going to be airlifted off the island.

Dean had murdered his girlfriend stateside. He got plastic surgery to hide his face. He was recovering on the island when Nolan inadvertently suspected him and Dean figured out he was a cop. Dean thought his victims were haunting him. He went on a killing spree. He was stopped before he could harm anyone else. And now he faces jail time in two jurisdictions.

Back stateside, Bradford and Celina found Jonathan’s partner. The guy was trapped in a wall. He was so desperate he drank his own urine. He said Jonathan’s real name was Roger. They were trying to do something stupid when they got trapped in a wall. Roger made it out. He got help for his friend and now they’ll both survive.

Chen’s interview did not go well. She ended up on the bottom of the list for new detectives. She’ll have to wait years before she gets assigned anywhere. And so Chen was thinking about her next moves with her career.
