In tonight’s The Rookie episode, Officer John Nolan was facing a new problem with his wife. He loves Bailey. She loves him. They were still happy together and so this new problem was parenthood. Bailey wants to try for a baby. She never thought she wanted kids until she fostered a toddler for a couple of days.

It awakened this need that she didn’t know about. She now wants to have a baby or possibly adopt. She doesn’t have everything figured out. She just knows she wants to be a mother. She told Nolan about it. Nolan wasn’t sure he wanted more kids. He’s already a dad. His son was in his twenties. He’s already experienced the sleepless nights and endless diapers.

Nolan didn’t want to go through that again. He was also older than Bailey. He knew he was closer to being a grandfather than he was to be a father again and so he tried to talk Bailey out of the idea. Bailey let the matter drop long enough for him to go to work.

Nolan had to arrest someone that stole Smitty’s police car. He also was brought in to assist the homeless encampment that’s being moved to the shelters. There were also some prisoners that were brought in to assist as well. The prisoners were being watched by the sheriff department. And one escaped in the chaos.

They also found a dead woman’s bag amongst the homeless’ possessions. The woman was Karina Lewis. She’s believed to have been murdered by her boyfriend and he never said where the body was. According to the boyfriend, he strangled her during a fight at his apartment.

He then blacked out. He has no memory of what he did with the body. Aaron and Detective Harper asked the homeless man where he found the bag. He led them to the woods where they eventually found the remains. And what’s weird was that Karina was definitely shot in the head.

Why would her boyfriend confess to murder just to lie about the method? It didn’t make sense. Nolan and Celina meanwhile went looking for the missing prisoner. Her name is Theresa Vaughn. She escaped with two weeks left in her sentence. She must have escaped for a reason and so they asked her mother.

Her mother did visit her at the homeless encampment. They hugged. The mother became the natural suspect on how she escaped. Only she wasn’t involved or at least she claims not to be. Brenda wanted her daughter to finally grow up and was practicing tough love.

Her daughter got sent to prison for assault. She assaulted a woman she thought her boyfriend was cheating on her with. She prioritized the wrong thing back then. Her mother came to believe she escaped because she wanted revenge. Not on the boyfriend. She thought Theresa would go after Doreen.

The affair partner. Theresa did talk to Doreen and she must have finally believed Doreen wasn’t sleeping with Mike because Theresa claimed he was cheating with someone else. She wanted to get revenge on this someone else. And the sad part is she wasn’t even with Mike anymore.

Mike dumped her when she got sent to prison. The cops continued to search for Theresa while Harper learned something. Harper learned that Karina’s boyfriend had been coerced into a false confession. By the cops on the case as well as the man now running to be the next District Attorney.

Harper knew she was going to make enemies by reopening the investigation. She went through it anyways because she wanted justice for Karina. Aaron was there to back her. They made sure the Medical Examiner finally performed an autopsy on the body now that they have a body to do so.

They also looked for DNA. They managed to find a suspect fairly quickly. They learned that Karina was working with a guy by the name of Ryan Hones and that guy has no alibi. Ryan lied about his alibi. He got his girlfriend to fake an alibi for him. Aaron saw through it. He tried to investigate on his own and Detective Harper had to stop him.

She understood why he felt so strongly about this case. He was once an innocent man in prison. She got that and she was willing to overlook certain things. They just have to do things properly if they want to get the boyfriend out of jail.

Celina also figured out who was sleeping with Mike. It wasn’t Doreen. It was Theresa’s mom. Mike was sleeping with Brenda and he got her pregnant. Which Theresa must have figured out when she saw her mom. She mentioned that her mom smelled good and that’s because her mom smelled of Mike.

Anyways, Theresa escaped. She went to Mike’s place. She was destroying his stuff with a bat. Her mom came in. She was threatening the both of them and she had a gun. Nolan had Celina turn on the cruiser’s sirens. And that forced Theresa to run out of the house scared.

Nolan arrested Theresa. She will definitely serve additional time for her escape. She might also serve more time because of the gun and taking Mike hostage. While this was all happening, Lucy finally got answers from Brandford. His worst enemy stopped by her place to threaten her.

He threatened her and Tamara. Lucy made sure that Tamara was safe. She then confronted Bradford about what he’s involved in and he told her everything. He told her that Ray Watkins started double dealing with enemy combatants while they were both serving in the military.

Bradford was going to apprehend Ray with his fellow officers when Ray called in an airstrike. He killed two of their men. Bradford and his friend Mark Greer had thought Ray was dead.

They reported him as dead. They only learned recently that he was still alive. Mark wanted to kill him out of revenge. Bradford refused to break the law to cover up their lie. He instead followed Ray. He caught Ray breaking the law. He later arrested Ray and his men with Lucy and Detective Lopez as backup. And naturally Ray tried to end Bradford’s career as one final screw up.

Bradford was questioned by Internal Affairs. He lied about the circumstances. IA ultimately dismissed Ray’s claims because he had no evidence to back it up. Mark covered his tracks when the plan was to kill him. Ray’s mother was dying in the hospital. She couldn’t testify to seeing the men threaten her son.

Bradford might still face repercussions, but he was in the clear for now and he felt the need to punish himself for lying to everyone. He broke up with Lucy. Bradford didn’t believe he deserved love.

And Karina’s real killer finally arrested. Her boyfriend will be released from prison. The Assistant District Attorney spun the whole thing as a win for him and so no one was getting in trouble. Plus, Nolan reconsidered having a baby.

THE END!
