In tonight’s The Voice episode, it’s the Semifinals! It was all about Hometown pride tonight. Up first was Team Reba’s Josh Sanders. The father of three hails from North Carolina and he performed Chris Stapleton for his solo. He chose “White Horse”. He has a great voice. It has a growl as well as a softness. Reba loves his tone. She felt there was room for him in the Country music world. He then showed that himself with his performance. He had fun on the stage. He rocked it out. He even impressed the judges. John Legend wasn’t in that field and he still admired Josh’s skill tonight. And Reba was just glad that Josh took the necessary pointers in rehearsals.

Next up was Team Dan + Shay’s Madison Curbello. She hailed from Massachusetts. She was a teacher. Her students made videos wishing her well in the contest. She received lots of love. Madison chose “Time After Time” by Cindy Lauper as her solo. She was a fan of the show and she saw another artist perform their rendition of the song. It blew her away then. She was hoping to do the same tonight. She wanted to use the full width of the band. She didn’t want to strip the song down like others have done in the past and for that her coaches appreciated her skill.

Madison has a great voice. She also arranged that stage to highlight her in the most beautiful way imaginable. It genuinely felt like she was giving an actual concert. Next was the first trio performance of the Semifinals. The contestants had a solo and a trio performance tonight. The trio performances were dedicated to Taylor Swift last season and this season they were dedicated to the new movie coming out called “IF”. It was all about a girl having the ability to see everyone’s imaginary friend.

The stars of the movie introduced the stars of the first trio performance. It was Nathan, Bryan, and Maddi. They performed “Just Like Heaven” by the Cure. It was an enjoyable performance. They really took the audience back to a lighter time and they each were given a moment to shine. Which can be rare in a trio. The next performance went back to solos. Team Chance’s Serenity Arce was up. She was on the young side. She was still a teenager. She was in high school. She was taking time out of school to perform “We Can’t Be Friends (Wait for Your Love)” tonight.

Serenity was also from Florida. Her friends all made videos wishing her well. Serenity’s own coach believes she can do anything with that voice of hers. She mostly switched from R&B to Pop. She chose Pop tonight. Her song was an Ariana Grande song. She chose to make it her own by stripping it down to an acoustic version. It was a very haunting performance. She highlighted a maturity that was outside of her age. Her coach was especially proud of her. They hugged after her first performance of the night.

The second trio of the night went to Josh, Karen, and Tae. They kept the feel-good beat going with their rendition of “Forever Young”. They put a country spin on it and they made the Bob Dylan song their own. Next up was Team Chance’s Maddi Jane. She was a Midwest girl. She was from Chicago, Illinois. She shares that with her coach. She also chose the song “Greedy” for her solo of the night. It was by Tate McRae. She chose it because her dream was to move into Pop. And it seemed no one was playing around tonight because all the performances to date have been amazing.

Next up was Team John’s Nathan Chester. He was also from Chicago. He’s been performing on cruise ships for the past couple of years and so that’s been home for him. He received love from his girlfriend. She always cheers him up whenever he sees her. He even dedicated his solo to her. He chose the song “Try A Little Tenderness” by Otis Redding. Nathan was the only one taking from that era of music this season. He brought up such a level of nostalgia that everyone couldn’t help but root for him. He was so friggin amazing that all the coaches gave him a standing ovation after his performance tonight.

Nathan also looked really great during his performance. He’s a hard one to beat. Still, there was one last trio up and they unfortunately had to follow the amazing Nathan. Madison, Asher, and Serenity were in the final trio. They performed “Fix You” by Coldplay. It was a beautiful as well as gentle song. There were some hiccups and everyone’s lucky they weren’t too noticeable. Next up was Team John’s Bryan Olson. His last performance was so high energy that it kicked off the whole episode on a great note.

Bryan was switching things up tonight. He chose “Against All Odds” by Phil Collins. It was far more laidback than last week. He was also from a small town in Nebraska. His whole town came out for him to support him while he’s on the show. He’s been honored in great and small ways. There was even a viewing party in his hometown watching his performance tonight. They cheered for him as he displayed a much softer side to his tone. John was proud of him. He felt Bryan adds so much to the show and glad that the audience wasn’t squandering it.

Next up was Dan + Shay’s Karen Waldrup. She was from Louisiana. She chose the song “Stay”. It was by Sugarland. Her coaches thought it was the perfect song for her. They wanted to see a little more vulnerability. This song was great for that and it also showed off her storytelling ability. Karen has been on the road for a while now. She’s been playing at every venue she could. She had to build up a tough skin to manage that and so lowering that guard needed more than just a song. It needed her to make a true effort to ditch the past. And once she did that, it paid off in more ways than one.

Next up was Team Reba’s Asher Havon. He wanted to display his incredible range tonight. He switched things up. He did that by choosing a notoriously difficult song. He chose “Irreplaceable” by Beyoncé. There’s only one Beyoncé for a reason. She could literally do anything. Asher wanted to showcase the same. He beat himself up several times during rehearsals because he was a perfectionist. He wanted to get everything right. Reba told him to stop to take it easy. He sounded amazing then. He still sounded amazing during the live performance.

Asher was great. He also had backup dancers that really got his vision. John said his own father called Asher “the Voice”. He was the best vocalist this season and John stood by that sentiment. Reba was just so proud of him. She was moved to tears by watching an Alabama boy capture the majesty of Beyoncé. The next and final performance of the night went to Team Dan + Shay’s Tae Lewis. He was originally from North Carolina. He moved to Nashville to pursue his music. He was being welcomed by an amazing community there.

Not that he was forgotten back in North Carolina. They all came out for him. They watched Tae perform “Amazed” by Lonestar. He used to hear the song growing up at the skating ring with his brother. He went back to the song because of his emotional attachment to it. And he rocked it out tonight.

His coaches were on their feet and shouting in joy after Tae’s performance.

THE END!
