The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers recap for Friday, August 9, reveals that Devon Hamilton-Winters (Bryton James) will surprise Abby Newman-Abbott (Melissa Ordway) with a picnic in the park and note that Dominic Newman-Abbott-Winters-Chancellor (Rainn and River Ware) helped select the menu.
Once Devon offers an engagement ring and a more official proposal, Abby will accept and mention Ashley Abbott’s (Eileen Davidson) doctors making a prediction about her autumn release.
Devon will suggest November 13 as a wedding date since that’s Abby’s birthday, so she’ll get on board with the idea.
At Newman Enterprises, Summer Newman (Allison Lanier) will talk to Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) about Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor) leaving her no choice but to pursue this custody battle.
Summer will rant about Kyle working with Audra Charles (Zuleyka Silver) the snake, but Victor won’t offer any hints about being the reason for that partnership.
It’ll be mentioned that Summer adopted Harrison when they were living in Italy, but she’ll worry that won’t be enough since Kyle’s pushing this non-biological angle.
Summer will be desperate for advice on how to play this and will seek Victor’s help.
Victor will keep the focus on Harrison Abbott’s (Redding Munsell) happiness and will vow to talk to Kyle so they can avoid the war.
After Victor texts Kyle to meet him at the jazz lounge, Kyle will send Harrison and Claire Grace (Hayley Erin) to the park for ice cream.
While they’re there, Harrison will talk to Claire about his parents’ divorce and express sadness over not doing things as a family anymore.
It’ll be obvious to Harrison that Summer and Kyle don’t even like each other now.
Once Kyle arrives at the jazz lounge, Victor will mention the custody feud that Summer brought to his attention and stress the importance of sitting down with her to figure all this out.
Kyle will seemingly get that it’s not a request and will end up texting Summer to set up a meeting.
Next on Friday’s Y&R episode, Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) will derail Diane Jenkins-Abbott (Susan Walters) and Jack Abbott’s (Peter Bergman) meal at the GCAC, so that’ll lead to a major showdown between Diane and Phyllis.
Phyllis will act like Kyle is out of control and will ultimately blame Diane for putting him on this path when she fired him.
Diane will think Phyllis’ influence on Summer is the problem and will point to Phyllis’ faked demise leading to Summer’s divorce from Kyle.
Phyllis and Diane will basically bicker about who’s the bigger hypocrite until Summer arrives to drag her mom away from this unproductive confrontation.
As for Diane, she’ll tell Jack that Kyle needs to know she’s on his side and will plan to keep standing against Phyllis.
When Victor crosses paths with Phyllis and Summer, he’ll let Summer know that he handled everything and that it’s going to be all right.
Once Victor struts off, Phyllis will flip out over Summer turning to her grandpa for help and indebting herself to him.
Summer won’t think Victor’s typical rules apply to his granddaughter, but Phyllis will contend that she’s being naïve.
After Summer gets Kyle’s message about meeting to talk, she’ll seem hopeful. Phyllis will make it clear that Summer needs to stay on guard from now on.
