The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers recap for Tuesday, January 2, reveals that Claire Grace (Hayley Erin) will sulk alone in her room at the psych ward. After Claire scolds herself for thinking of Cole Howard (J. Eddie Peck) and Victoria Newman (Amelia Heinle) as her parents, she’ll insist they’re simply Victoria and Cole – not Mom and Dad.
Claire will know she can’t rely on Jordan (Colleen Zenk) after the way she lied and manipulated her, but she won’t think she can really let Cole and Victoria in either.
Since Claire will think Victoria and Cole still look at her with fear, she’ll refuse to let them or anyone else get too close.
Claire will feel like she’s no one and nothing, so she’ll plan to shut out the world.
At the GCAC, Cole and Victoria will reflect on this being a strange way to reconnect after all these years.
Victoria and Cole will also consider how different things might’ve turned out if they hadn’t been robbed of the chance to raise Claire.
Afterward, Victoria and Cole will watch Claire sleep outside her room, so they’ll mull over how they didn’t get to do that when she was growing up.
Once Victoria leaves, Cole will stick around and enter Claire’s room while she’s still sleeping. After Cole pulls up a chair, he’ll tell the story of a little girl whose parents couldn’t wait for her to be born.
At the jazz lounge, Adam Newman (Mark Grossman) will run into Sally Spectra (Courtney Hope) and convince her to have a drink with him.
That’ll lead to Sally and Adam recalling the last time they celebrated this night together – though they actually celebrated other holidays instead of New Year’s Eve as part of Sally’s loophole.
Adam will fish to find out if they’re dating now, but Sally won’t go that far yet and will gently scold Adam for pushing it.
Since they missed the earlier midnight countdown, Adam and Sally will end up doing one of their own. Adam will hope for a kiss after their toast, so Sally will smile and give him one on the cheek.
At the ranch, Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott) will struggle to sleep and notice the booze is missing from the mini bar.
Victor Newman (Amelia Heinle) will admit he removed the temptation and will stay up to comfort Nikki since she’ll be restless.
In the morning, Nikki will talk about finally getting some sleep and will insist on going to work after her AA meeting.
Victoria will stop by and wonder if Nikki’s sure about going into the office, but Nikki will think it’ll be good for her.
Once Nikki makes it to her AA meeting, she’ll talk about Victor being her rock, but she’ll know that she has to put in the work herself when it comes to focusing on her sobriety.
After Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) updates Sharon Rosales (Sharon Case) on all the latest Jordan and Claire drama, he’ll get some support at Crimson Lights.
Sharon will also have some advice for Victoria when she makes a morning stop for coffee.
Victoria will worry about how she’s going to undo all the damage that’s been done to Claire, but Sharon will suggest looking at the situation differently.
Sharon will think Victoria should concentrate on showing Claire who she really is and will highlight the importance of patience.
After Sharon urges Victoria to take care of her own psyche, she’ll hint that Victoria might want to think about taking time off work.
At Newman Enterprises, Adam will get a call from Sally, who’ll ask if he’s free for a dinner date tonight.
Adam will joke about checking his schedule before confirming that he’s on board and looking forward to it.
Once Adam meets with Nick and Victor, he’ll get all the wild Jordan and Claire news. That’ll leave Adam outraged over being kept out of the loop.
Nick will bicker with Adam briefly, but Victor will shut down the fighting since it’s important for the family to come together right now.
Once Nikki joins Victor, Adam and Nick, Adam will pipe up to offer his support – and he’ll do the same for Victoria after she arrives.
As Tuesday’s Y&R episode winds down, Victoria will ultimately announce that she’s taking a leave of absence to devote herself to Claire’s recovery.
