Someone called 911. He said his name is John. He came across as sad if not scared. He got Maddie. She suspected he was harboring suicidal thoughts and she was very sympathetic. It wasn’t until he mentioned Jayna that she thought differently. John said he doesn’t want to hurt Jayna. He wants to save her or so he claims. He thinks killing her would help her find God. John was a monster. Only Maddie couldn’t call him that. She didn’t want to risk him hurting Jayna. She pretended to empathize with him because she overheard in the background someone was trying to yell with a gag in their mouth.
Jayna was real. She was being held prisoner. Maddie didn’t want to get her killed and so she tried to tell John that if he left now without Jayna that she wouldn’t send the cops after him. She was lying. She was hoping he’d fall for it. He nearly did, but he wasn’t stupid. He knew they were tracing his call. The cops showed up at the location they thought was his and it turns out nothing was there. John sent them to a nearby location to see if Maddie was lying or not. She proved she was lying when the cops showed up.
John disappeared once he realized he didn’t find a friend in Maddie. There’s no telling what he did to Jayna. The cops had nothing to work with and the case was soon forgotten by almost everyone. The one person that still kept looking for John was Maddie. She was doing that while her friends and family were called to the scene of a fire. The fire was at a dog shelter. The animals needed to be saved. There was this one dog that was shy. He tried to hide from the firefighters. Buck had to take off his head gear to show he was a normal guy and the dog came to him.
All the animals were eventually rescued from the fire. The humans survived too. Buck built a bond with that one dog he saved and his new buddy might be what he needs now that Eddie was leaving. Eddie was moving back to Texas. His only child was there. Chris didn’t seem interested in coming back to LA and Eddie didn’t want to force him to come back. He thought him moving back to Texas was best. He has to sublet his apartment. He made the mistake of signing a new lease before he considered moving and now he has to find someone to take his apartment on short notice.
Buck agreed to help Eddie sublet the place. Eddie thought he was doing a good thing until they started showing the apartment around and Buck pointed out everything wrong with it. Buck was sabotaging the showings. He was doing his best to stop Eddie from leaving. Eddie caught on to it. He confronted his best friend and he kicked him out before he could ruin any more showings. Buck later overheard Eddie talk about LA. Eddie said he came to LA for business. He was leaving now for family. He said that he has no connections in LA.
It was pretty hurtful to Buck. Buck was more than the best friend. He helped with Chris. They got Chris with the right caregiver and the right school. Buck has even supported Eddie through a loss. When Eddie lost his wife, Buck was there. Buck was the one that got him out of bed. Eddie also knows how much Buck struggles with abandonment. You would think he’d be kinder to his best friend and he wasn’t. He was just disappointing. Buck thankfully found a new friend in the dog and he later adopted him.
Buck named the dog “Blaze” in honor of when they first met. He didn’t tell Eddie about the dog or adopting him. Eddie found out the same time as everyone else did. It was when Buck brought Blaze to the firehouse. Buck showed off the dog. He made pointed comments about Eddie. He forced Eddie to tell the team that he was moving back to Texas. The others were all very supportive towards Eddie. They understood why he was leaving. It was just Buck that was angry about it. Luckily, Maddie had better luck than he did.
Maddie found out that her “John Doe” made several similar calls like the one he made to her. The other dispatchers were all honest with him. They called him a monster. This guy has been calling 911 dispatchers up and down the pacific coast. After the others failed to sympathize with him, he kills the girl he was holding onto. It was only Maddie that was different. She and Athena brought this case to a detective. Detective Amber Braeburn works in Missing Persons. She also had the best track record in finding missing people.
The detective listened to all the calls that this John Doe left. She figured out pretty early that the guy was a suspect she’s been tracking. His name was Richard Bullock. He has a track record for being interested in underage girls. This John Doe’s victims were all underage girls as well. The detective suspected he was killing them so that he wouldn’t hurt them. There was just one problem with bringing him in. Braeburn couldn’t talk to him without evidence. He filed a complaint against her. And if she goes back to his place without evidence, it was considered harassment.
The cops chose to instead send in Athena. Athena spoke to Bullock’s girlfriend. She got his new address and they were too late to arrest him, but he wasn’t there and John Doe called 911 again. He kept calling until he got Maddie. He talked to her. He admitted he was Bullock. He admitted he killed the other girls. He was a serial killer and so Maddie talked him into killing himself. He told her he had a gun. She didn’t want him to use it on Jayna. She told him that he has to kill the monster inside of him. No sooner did Bullock kill himself that the cops found him. And they found Jayna.
Jayna was found alive. She was going to be alright. She wasn’t harmed in any way and she just wanted to be with her mother. With Bullock dead, Jayna was safe. There were also several homicide cases that were closed. They found his pouch full of trophies that he took from his victims. There was still one more out there that hasn’t been identified yet and so the search continues. Buck in the meanwhile lost his dog. Blaze’s real owners came looking for him and they took him back. Buck was so sad that he realized he needed to make things up to Eddie.
Buck gave up his loft apartment. He was going to sublet Eddie’s apartment. He was also going to look for another dog because he realized he gets lonely. Buck later told Eddie everything and now Eddie can go back to Texas without having to worry about anything. He went out with the whole team for a goodbye dinner. They were still out when the real John Doe serial killer abducted Maddie. It wasn’t Bullock. It was Braeburn. The detective framed Bullock for her crime and now she has Maddie.
She could have stopped killing. She could have gotten away with it. Only the detective was really demented and there’s no telling what she’ll do to Maddie.
