In tonight’s Chicago Fire episode, it was a Chicago Crossover tonight. Up first was “Chicago Fire”. The paramedics and several fire trucks were called to the scene of an explosion.

The paramedics also had a doctor with them. Dr. Frost agreed to a ride along. He wanted to help assist with onsite trauma though he probably never thought he’d get called to a mass casualty event. The basement of a commercial building caught fire. The building was in Downtown Chicago. It happened during the morning commute and there were a lot of victims.

The fire wasn’t confined to the one building. It spread. It spread underground and it risked every building on the block. It even risked the structural integrity of the server room where the initial fire happened.

Several people got trapped down there when the explosion occurred. Lieutenant Kidd took her team to go rescue them. Back above ground, Violet ran into some problems with a security guard. The security guard used to be a cop. She left the job and sometimes forgets she doesn’t call the shots anymore.

She forgot when her friend got injured. Her friend has a cut to her face. It was superficial. The woman was upright. She walking and talking and so Violet asked her to go sit on the green tarp.

It’s where the non-emergency patients were. Well, Bates didn’t like that. She kept shouting for aide for her friend and so Frost talked to her. He told her that Violet was in charge. She made a judgement call and they were other people in much more serious condition. Bates was forced to take her friend to the green tarp.

The fire continued to spread in the meantime. The city couldn’t shut off the gas. The closest breaker to do so was covered in rubble from the explosion and could no longer be safely accessed. They had to travel ten minutes out to close the next breaker. Meaning there could be gas pockets in the subway tunnels.

Kidd came back from the server room with her team and she agreed to test out the subway. Mouch went with her. He was kinda glad to go with her. He ran into his wife at the scene. Trudy was giving him the silent treatment and he didn’t know why.

Mouch first thought it was because he didn’t want to celebrate his promotion a second time. It wasn’t until he thought about it in all that chaos that he remembered the second celebration wasn’t about him at all. It was Trudy’s birthday. Mouch completely forgot his wife’s birthday.

He tried to apologize to her and she wasn’t having it. She said they could talk back at home. A saying that never ends well for a spouse. Mouch then took off the chance to serve as backup for Kidd. He’d rather deal with a second explosion than an angry Trudy.

There was an even a second reason for her to be angry. Chicago Police Department were called in when it became clear the fire wasn’t accidentally. Someone set off an explosion to take down the servers. The question here was why. The servers apparently held the City Pension Plan.

The man in charge recently invested a fraction of the pension plan of every city employee into cryptocurrency. It made the news. There were a lot of people that were angry about it because they didn’t know or understand cryptocurrency.

They were in right because cryptocurrency can be held on little devices. Once someone get these devices, they have access to all the money held on it.

They could easily steal it and start over elsewhere. The mastermind of turning pensions into cryptocurrency didn’t think about thieves. He put the devices behind a security locked door and never suspected that someone might set off a bomb to force everyone out of the building. And give them easy access to search the subbasement without worrying about being caught.

No one would fear for cryptocurrency during a mass casualty event. The men behind it hadn’t even thought their plan the whole way through. They didn’t escape at the earliest.

They were still in the subbasement when Severide went down there to see if there were any more explosions planned. He ran into the two men. He got away when they pulled a gun. He asked for CPD backup. Trudy came in with Ruzek and even Bates. They split up to cover the area. Trudy ran into the men and they shot her. She called it in. Mouch overheard it on the radio.

Mouch went running to his wife’s side. Herrmann also went into the building after Mouch. They were best friends. Neither of them would leave the other to face terrorists on their own. They went in after Trudy and that’s when the building started to show signs of structural failure. The foundation was giving away.

There were people outside that had to be cleared from the area. They had to work fast to get Trudy out of that building. She was later transferred to the hospital and that’s when the bigger problem kicked off.

Kidd lost contact with pretty much everyone except Carver. They had found a train trapped down there. They were telling the conductor about what happened when the ceiling in the subway gave way. Kidd ordered Carver to assist as many as he could out of the tunnel. He did that.

He turned back to go help his lieutenant when another explosion occurred. The entrance to the subway was cut off. And no one could get into contact with Kidd.

Severide went running into the tunnels after his wife, but there was too much debris. There’s no telling if she’s dead or if Trudy might die as well.

THE END!
