In tonight’s Chicago Fire episode, Trudy was on the mend. She was indestructible by now. Mouch was helping her get better and he took some time off of work to be with her. He has someone filling in for him. Herrmann has also been checking up on the couple. He was happy to report to their Chief that everyone was on the mend.
He was barely at the firehouse when they all got a call. There was an elderly woman involved in a car accident. Her car was on fire. She was trapped inside. They were all called out to help her and there was a moment when either Ritter got confused or Kidd did.
Kidd issued an order. Ritter didn’t know what she was talking about. She then switched him with Caver. Carver got the elderly lady out and she was rushed to the hospital.
Now either side could be at fault for the confusion. Ritter was currently going through a low point with his boyfriend. He might not have been listening as clearly as he should have. Kidd also wasn’t in the clear. She has family coming into town. She was going through a cleaning frenzy at home and she might have misspoke at the scene.
Again, Carver got the woman out. She was safe now. She suffers from dementia. Her son was her caregiver. He was in the other room when she grabbed the keys and tried to drive. Her son quickly found her thanks to her wearing a fitness tracker around her wrist. It reminded Herrmann of when he tracked his kids on their phones.
He said tracking helps people. Kylie told the old man that what he did with his kids was completely different. The only reason Herrmann didn’t want to admit it was because he still thought he didn’t deserve to get downgraded to a flip phone by his wife.
The matter between Kidd and Ritter however solved itself. Ritter was in the wrong. He didn’t understand Kidd’s shorthand. He’s worked with her. He just hasn’t heard all of her phrases on calls and that’s why he messed up. He later apologized to her. He admitted he cost them time.
He was beating up on himself more than Kidd did. Kidd was fine with accepting his apology. She said that’s how a firefighter learns. Kidd didn’t hold what Ritter did against him. She was more focused on her cousin, Cole.
Cole stopped by at the firehouse. They haven’t seen each other since they were kids. Cole wasn’t fat anymore. He worked at a gym after high school. He became a personal trainer and now he was scouting for locations for a new gym. He was a happy young man. He seems to have found his way in life.
He surprised Kidd with coming to town with little warning and she later found out why. Cole believes like the rest of the family that Severide has been keeping Kidd from them. Kidd hasn’t been in touch as much as she used to when they were younger. And the family thinks Severide was trying cut her off from her family.
They didn’t know that Kidd has been traveling around the country. She was promoting her “Girls On Fire” program. She also was a lieutenant now. It came with more duties.
Also, she’s dealt with a few stalkers by now that have tried to harm her. Kidd only does what she wants to do nowadays. She hasn’t kept in touch with the family because she was the one that was failing to nurture the relationships. Severide had nothing to do with it. He literally has been supporting her through every decision she makes.
Kidd later talked to her cousin. She told him how ashamed she felt back then with her ex. She let the drugs and the fights overrule everything. She stepped away from her family because she thought she was protecting them. Stella moved in with her relatives when she was twelve.
She became like an older cool sister to Cole. She also stepped in when his mother had postpartum depression. Kidd was great with the family. Then that all changed ten years ago. She left and she was so ashamed she couldn’t reach out again.
Kidd apologized to Cole for putting distance between them. Cole also apologized to her husband. He made up for his earlier accusation by telling Severide all about Kidd’s childhood.
Cole left the next morning, but not before he slept with Novak. Novak did the walk of shame out of Kidd and Severide’s apartment. They all had an awkward encounter. Novak said at one point “thank you” and Kidd wasn’t sure if she was getting thanked for having a hot cousin. They didn’t know that NoDvak needed to relax that night.
She and Violet answered a call at a nightclub the night before. This young woman went out with her friends. It was her birthday and someone thought it would be funny to push her face into the cake.
The cake ended up having dowels as a support to keep it upright. Those dowels stabbed her through the face. She was having a panic attack and so the paramedics removed the spike right there at the scene.
They also brought their traumatized to the hospital to double check that nothing else was damaged. And so you see, Novak needed someone to take her mind off of that.
Herrmann meanwhile solved a crime. People have been stealing fire hydrants to sell to a scrap yard. He found the scrap yard buying them by putting a tracker in one and the police took over from there. The scrap yard got shut down. The man behind it got arrested. Herrmann then went a step forward.
He went to a fundraiser for the Chicago Fire Department. He asked the new City Treasurer to help fund more hydrants and he cornering him helped him get heard. As for Ritter, his boyfriend broke up with him because they couldn’t agree about having a future together.
Ritter went out drinking with Violet and Novak to hep forget his woes. Carver passed because he was finally admitting he has a drinking problem and he’s been attending meetings. When he wasn’t doing that, Carver actually helped Ritter understand some of Kidd’s slang.
And Kidd herself realized that she wants a family, but she didn’t want to get pregnant herself.
THE END!
