On tonight’s Chicago Fire episode, Carver joined AA. He was an alcoholic. He’s been struggling with it for years. His last girlfriend also didn’t help. She brought out the worst in him because she got him drinking again and so he needed to detox. From both alcohol and the ex. Carver was attending meetings.
He was meeting new people. He was also focusing on work to help him through the first year. He loved being a firefighter. He heard how hard it was to get clean and then stay clean and so work helped him get out of his own head. It also helps that work can be very exciting.
The firefighters got called in when a woman got trapped on a zip line. Her harness was entangled. She was slowly getting choked to death and Severide pulled off an amazing save. The woman was going to be okay. She was rushed to the hospital. The whole thing made Violet want to help a fellow medic.
Violet was dating a lawyer. His name is Flynn. He was representing another medic that was being tried for negligent homicide. Only he thought that was unfair. Violet agreed with him when she checked out the file.
Violet read the whole thing. She felt the medic did what he needed to go. She agreed with her boyfriend until she actually met the man he was representing. The defendant was Jared Lennox.
Many will remember Lennox because he tried to get Violet and Severide fired. He was planted at their station to sabotage Chief Bode’s chances at promotion. He was doing that for Chief Robinson. She eventually turned on him and he lost his career with CFD. He joined a private ambulance company. And that’s where he made his latest mistake.
Violet refused to help when she realized what he did. If it was just a single incident, she would have tried to be fair. She would’ve vouched for him. She couldn’t do that now because she saw Lennox do what he was being accused of him.
He drugged a patient once before because he got easily scared on the job and he nearly killed that patient. Its why he got fired from CFD. Violet told Flynn she couldn’t help and he didn’t push her. He respected her boundaries. He even told Lennox that Violet doesn’t owe him anything.
Leave it to Lennox though to ignore orders. He went back to Violet. He begged to be heard and she finally listened. Lenox explained that he learned his lesson after he was fired. He tries to do everything by the book nowadays. He explained that the patient was epileptic.
He tried to jump out of the ambulance when he came to. He truly was a danger to himself. Its why he was drugged and he died because of an undiagnosed heart condition. Lennox truly didn’t do anything wrong this time. He followed the rules and he might go to prison because no one believes him.
They saw his history. They held that history against him. The victim’s family was also influential. They were pushing for charges and neither Lennox nor his lawyer knew how to help him.
Violet was so caught up with this that she didn’t notice Carver’s reluctance to return to Molly’s. She told him she hadn’t seen him in a while. She said he was missed. Carver replied that he was a little busy and he didn’t mention that she was trying to get sober. Carver hasn’t told anyone he was in AA. He was keeping that to himself.
It almost came out thanks to Carver’s new friend, Lee. Lee was another alcoholic. He and Carver were supposed to be sobriety buddies until Lee got arrested and pretended to be Carver to escape charges.
Kidd was called in to get him. She saw Lee. She called the real Carver and he bailed out his “friend”. Carver could have used that chance to come clean with his boss and he didn’t. He wasn’t ready to tell anyone outside of AA that he was an addict. He also thought he could handle Lee on his own.
Lee pretended like he wants to be supportive of others in the program only he was dangerous. He latched onto another alcoholic once before and he stalked her. He tried to push away her friends. He even frightened one of her friends by confronting her in person. Lee was dangerous. He also thought Violet was bad for Carver.
Carver had admitted to him that people were wondering why he wasn’t at Molly’s anymore. Lee took that to believe that Violet was toxic for Carver and he later broke into her apartment
He would have hurt her if Carver hadn’t showed up. Carver heard from others at AA what Lee did. He tried to call Violet and he went to her apartment when she didn’t answer her phone. He saved her. Lee got arrested. Violet was left with a lot of questions and so Carver admitted he was an alcoholic. He only told Violet.
She agreed to keep his secret. The two of them did go to Molly’s, but this time Violet kept a close eye on him. She helped him to stay sober. She also helped Lennox. She found actual evidence to prove he was innocent.
The charges against Lennox were dropped. Flynn helped keep his client out of prison. Both of them went to Molly’s as well and Kidd and Severide were in great moods. They did something great for the Girls On Fire program. And they also discussed adoption.
THE END!
