In tonight’s Chicago Fire episode, most of the usual crew were working the night shift tonight. The paramedics also had a ride along. Someone was training to be a medic with the army.

The higher ups thought nothing would prepare him more for his time overseas than a shift with the Chicago Fire Department. They even made things more interesting by giving him the night shift. The night shifts are the worse. The firefighters as well as the paramedics usually deal with a bunch of drunks and so Violet was dreading the ride along.

Novak was actually excited about it until she saw who was riding with them. His name is Scott Osbourne. He goes by Oz. He also knew Novak from before she joined CFD. The two of them were apparently engaged at one point and it didn’t seem to have ended well. Novak was bad at relationships.

It was no surprise at all that she was the one that broke things off. She left the ring at the table and ghosted him. She was mad he never ran after her. He was mad that she ran off without talking to him first. They were both trying to ignore the tension during their shift.

It helps when they barely talk to each other. In the meantime, someone dropped a body on the firehouse’s front door. The victim had been shot. His friends left him with the firehouse because they couldn’t bring him to the hospital. The hospital would have had to report it to the cops.

The firehouse was the next best there was no cameras in front. The firefighters actually drove the victim to the hospital themselves because they couldn’t wait for an ambulance. They took him in the firetruck and they ran into Violet, Novak, and Oz at the hospital.

Violet naturally filled the others in on the gossip. She also overheard from a fellow paramedic that Carver was working shifts back to back at another firehouse.

Which was strange because he told Violet that he had attended a meeting. Carver was an alcoholic. He was attending AA meetings until he ran into a deranged stalker.

The stalker tried to kill Violet because he thought he was helping Carver and all that did was make Carver too scared to open up again. He didn’t want to let another wrong person back in his life.

Carver prefers to work. He felt that as long as he was busy that he couldn’t drink. It wasn’t a healthy way of staying sober and Violet wasn’t sure if she should talk to Carver about it. The two of them have history. It wasn’t entirely healthy history either. Violet let work take her mind off the issue.

They took a call from Molly’s. Herrmann was working the late shift at the firehouse. He left the bar in the waitress’s hands. Damon also stopped by to help. It was Damon that made the call for 911 because he saw a woman overdosing.

The woman had taken molly at a club she went to earlier that night. Her friend didn’t want to report it because he thought he’d get in trouble and so it’s a good thing Damon was there.

His quick thinking saved that woman’s life. It also showed Oz that Novak has handsome friends. He later asked her about Damon. She told him that they were just good friends and Oz said he was only asking because he was curious. Not jealous. Oz was engaged again. He made a joke about hopefully this one sticking and Novak didn’t know how to feel about that.

Violet, Novak, and Oz took several calls that night. They treated a guy that was injured in a bar fight. Oz told the drunk eyewitnesses to go home and they tried to drive home drunk.

The paramedics were called to the scene of the accident. The driver had a cut to his head. His buddy was trapped under the car because he flew through the windshield. They freed the guy trapped under the car. The firefighters also alerted CPD about a possible DUI. It was the end of a very long night. Oz thanked Violet and Novak for showing him the ropes.

Oz also made peace with Novak. It dawned on her that ghosting her fiancé was a jerk move. She finally apologized for what she did and he forgave her. Their relationship wasn’t all bad.

There were a lot of good moments. They just had to remember those good moments. Violet also had a nasty confrontation with Carver. She smelled alcohol on him. The drunk driver spilled his cup on him. Carver was trying to explain and Violet wouldn’t believe him. She said if he could lie about going to meetings, he might be lying about drinking at work.

It was their confrontation that convinced Carver he should go to rehab. The only times he hasn’t been drinking is when he’s at work. He hasn’t maintained his sobriety and he didn’t want to risk his career if he kept going like he was. Carver later talked with his lieutenant. She understood that he needed to take time off.

Carver was one of the few people that went home early that night. The others stayed behind to help Herrmann with the paperwork. He was filling in for Chief Pascal. And Pascal’s job was a lot harder than he thought it would be.

And poor Cruz kept forgetting his wallet. The wallet was a gift from Javi and he was heavier than a brick, but each time he went back to get it, he got trapped at work.

THE END!
