Chief Pascal’s wedding anniversary was coming up. His sister-in-law wanted to do something for the happy couple. Which seemed odd because Pascal could have sworn Olivia hated him.
It’s fine because he’s not a fan of hers either. The two only meet during holidays or family functions. Pascal wanted to keep that way, but his wife disagreed. Monica thought her sister was being great and she told Pascal to suck it up for one night.
She didn’t suspect her sister of anything. It was just Pascal that felt like Olivia was agreeing because she needs a favor or possible a bone marrow. And so he was dreading the anniversary dinner.
Back at the firehouse meanwhile, they were missing a few of their own. They missed Carver. He took time off to go work the AA program properly and his friends were supporting him through his sobriety. They also missed Damon.
They heard Damon pulled off a great save on his last call. He was being a true Severide. Damon and his partner were going through the building when his partner thought they should leave.
Jenner was a coward. He said he has a family. He thought that was more important than saving someone on a call. He pretty much abandoned Damon.
If it was up to Jenner, Damon would have died along with the man he rescued. The same man that Jenner couldn’t be bothered to look for and so Jenner didn’t like that Damon got all the credit. He later lied to his lieutenant.
He claimed they got split up in all the smoke. Damon went along with that lie. He wasn’t a snitch. He also thought that things would end there and he was wrong. Jenner later threatened Damon. He claimed he’s been on the job for years.
He said he has a lot of connections and that he would destroy Damon’s career if Damon tries to cross him.
Damon didn’t know what to do about that. He went to his brother for advice. Severide saw the situation in two ways. One as a brother and the other as a captain. He ultimately chose to advise Damon as his brother. He told him to keep his head down and do the job.
Severide said someone like Jenner was bound to get caught in a mistake. Damon agreed with his brother. He planned on keeping his down when his lieutenant later called him into her office. She said that the difference between when Jenner left the building to when Damon called for backup was too large for them to have gotten separated accidentally.
She outright questioned Damon about what happened. He told her that the issue wasn’t him. He said she should talk to Jenner about the gap and who knows if he left it at that. Damon didn’t want the trouble. He wanted to be like his brother. He wanted to climb the ranks of CFD.
He didn’t think he could do that if the whole firehouse was against him. Jenner was a jerk only he’s been at the firehouse longer than Damon. They were all friends over there. Damon didn’t want to find himself on the outside of that group.
Only Jenner couldn’t take any criticism. He tracked Damon back to Molly’s. He got up in Damon’s face and he demanded that he fix things with their lieutenant for him or he was going to hurt Damon.
Severide was there. He naturally tried to step in. He was ready to fight Jenner and his wife had to remind him that they couldn’t afford for him to get arrested. Not now anyways. They were waiting to hear if they were approved for adoption.
They just had a home check. It wasn’t time for Severide to beat up Jenner.
Damon also needed to be seen standing up for himself. Jenner looked down on Damon because he said Damon’s family and their connections got him where he is. He outright called Damon a “nepo” baby. Jenner never took responsibility for that last call.
He abandoned a fellow firefighter that needed him and he got his friends to back him up. There wasn’t a fight at Molly’s, but Jenner did get his friends to threaten Damon. They were going to try and oust him from their firehouse.
Something Damon couldn’t afford to happen because it would look bad that he was at three firehouses in a year.
Severide wanted to help him. The same for Kidd. They considered reaching out to Chief Boden. The only reason they didn’t go through with it was because they were worried that it might make the hazing worse for Damon.
They thought about going to Chief Pascal and they were too late. Pascal left early for his anniversary. Monica realized the night should be just about them and so her sister pushed back their celebratory dinner by a few days.
The plan was for Monica and the chief to spend their actual anniversary just the two of them.
They didn’t count on the massive pile up. Pascal’s wife was involved in a car accident involving several cars. Mouch found Monica unconscious and he called the Chief personally.
Mouch and the Chief argued earlier that day. Pascal wanted Mouch to take a leadership position in another house. Mouch didn’t want it because he wanted to stay at the same firehouse with his friends. They got into a large fight.
And it doesn’t help that Pascal raced to the hospital only to find his wife had died from her injuries.
Pascal was left a mess and he needed someone to blame for what happened.
Kidd and Severide didn’t know how to celebrate getting approved for adoption while Pascal had lost everything. So, they kept their news to themselves.
