In tonight’s Chicago Fire episode, Damon was still in the hospital. He needed additional testing. He doesn’t know if he can keep being a firefighter if his tests showed he suffered permanent lung damage. He was already panicking and his big brother told him not to borrow trouble.
He knew plenty of people who came back from Damon’s situation. He thought they should be optimistic. Over being pessimistic. He also stopped by the hospital everyday to see him and get him actual food. The food at the hospital was the worst. Damon appreciated Severide coming to see him. It made him feel like he wasn’t alone.
Severide had to run off to his shift. Only the reason his wife didn’t go with him was because was out of town. Kidd was at a conference for firefighter leadership.
Mouch saw the itinerary for it and it made him wish he could go. He couldn’t because a Chief has to nominated him to go. The problem with that was that he burned some bridges with Chief Pascal. Pascal tried to get him a lieutenant position at another firehouse. The other place was good. Pascal was friends with the captain there and he actually put in a good word for Mouch.
Mouch turning down the job there didn’t look good. It embarrassed Pascal. Pascal wasn’t going put his neck back out there for Mouch and Mouch was smart enough to sense it. Still, he tried. He did want to become a lieutenant.
He just wanted to do it at 51. He told Pascal about staying at 51 from the start and Pascal really shouldn’t have set up an interview at another station for Mouch without telling him first. The two were now doing their best to work side by side. Mouch was filing in for Kidd while she was away. He was trying to prove he has what it takes by being flawless.
Mouch knew he couldn’t afford to let a mistake happen on his watch. It almost led to someone getting fired when Damon was accidentally left behind.
Mouch wanted to prove he’d make a great lieutenant. He was now riding the team harder than ever. He also wanted to put in paperwork for new equipment. Herrmann saw that he was doing a lot and tried to talk to him about it. Mouch wasn’t prepared to listen. Not at the time. Mouch continued to be extra and that was Carver welcoming back.
Carver officially came back last week. The night of the fire that nearly killed Damon happened. They were given time to rest up and he was back again now and he finally got to see Violet. They even hugged. She missed him. He meant more to her than he knew. He was doing better now.
He was in a good place and he wanted to be a good friend for her. He offered to join her for her investigation. Violet was called to a scene after another paramedic left a tube in a young man’s throat. The other medic was seen running off and that’s when a neighbor checked the apartment he just left.
She found Pete, her neighbor, with a tube still in his throat. She called 911. Violet and Novak answered. They had to cut another hole in Pete’s throat because he stopped breathing. They took him to the hospital. He hadn’t woken up and so Violet wanted to know what happened.
She wasn’t in trouble or anything for the procedure she did. She just wanted to get this medic fired. She went back to that neighborhood. It was pretty sketchy and so Carver came along. They knocked on the few doors. They almost got shot. And they eventually found the woman that called 911.
Her name is Carla. She doesn’t remember anything about the other medic. She just thought he robbed the place and was going to warn Pete when she found him in that condition. Violet noticed a cut on Carla’s hand. She asked her to put antiseptic ointment on it. Also, to visit urgent care or her at Firehouse 51 if the cut becomes infected.
Violet also continued looking into the case. She called around other firehouses. She got Novak and Carver’s help to check with private ambulances as well. There was no one willing to admit they sent a paramedic to that apartment building.
Violet has become a bit of a medic detective since Carver took a leave of absence. Novak did her best to warn Carver about it. He laughed until he saw that Violet in action.
Her good deed with Carla helped. Carla checked Pete’s apartment and she found a card for a private paramedic. It said this guy’s name is Danny. There was a number on the back of the card. Violet tried passing it on to the cops. There was nothing they could do. This “Danny” offered to help people for low cash payments. And he gets them medication for half the price.
There was no one willing to report him or help the cops arrest him. It wouldn’t be a felony anyways. It was a misdemeanor at most. Pete woke up at the hospital and he still didn’t want to report Danny. Things were going to end there and Violet still wanted to keep digging.
Mouch meanwhile impressed Pascal on a call. It got Pascal to change his mind. He put in Mouch’s name for the conference. Mouch was so proud and yet that didn’t stop him from trying to stab Pascal in the back by convincing Herrmann to eventually go after Pascal’s job.
Severide also ran into Natalie. She stopped by the firehouse looking for Kidd. They got to talking. Natalie admitted that Kidd saved her and her family from a house fire.
Natalie also admitted that she was really young at the time. She barely remembered until recently. And so now she suspects that her older sister deliberately set the fire and only Kidd will know if she’s telling the truth.
And Violet threatened Danny into early retirement. She couldn’t actually get him arrested. She just told him that the police are aware of him now.
She implied he could be arrested and with Carver at her back she did look dangerous. She also was going to put up paramedicine flowers in Pete’s building so that people weren’t so desperate for people like Danny.
THE END!
