In tonight’s Chicago Med episode, Dr. Mitch Ripley has been through a lot. His home life wasn’t secure when he was younger. He was placed in a facilty because he couldn’t control his anger. He was drugged until he could barely functioned and they withheld the one thing he needed – therapy.

Ripley got better in spite of those doctors that did that to him. He tried to hold in his anger and he was doing well until he ran into Sully. His childhood friend brought out the worst in him. It doubled after Sully died. Ripley was losing control and he might face charges of his own now.

Ripley went out drinking. Something he was doing too much of since his friend’s death. He was staying out until early in the morning and he ran into someone looking for a fight. The two men battered each other. The other guy got the one up on Ripley. He kicked him in the face while he was down.

He left with Ripley still on the ground and Ripley didn’t report it. He didn’t even want to talk about it when his girlfriend asked him if he was okay. Ripley was just going to ignore his injuries until the man that pummeled him arrived at the hospital.

The other guy apparently suffered internal injuries that could kill him. Meaning that Ripley could be charged if the man died because of injuries he sustained in their fight. Ripley shouldn’t have touched him even as a patient after their fight and he did so anyways. He didn’t recognize the man right away.

It wasn’t until he saw the man’s tattoo that he recognized him. Dr. Frost was working with him. He noticed Ripley’s pause for a moment. He asked his co-worker about it and Ripley pretended like everything was fine.

Frost didn’t know Ripley well enough to know when he’s lying. Dr. Asher had a better chance as Ripley’s girlfriend and she was busy. She had a new patient come in with an ectopic pregnancy. It’s when the pregnancy develops in the wrong place. There was no chance of the pregnancy becoming viable.

It also could kill the mother and so Asher suggested a removal procedure. It was technically an abortion. The patient asked that her fiancé not be told about it. He wasn’t the father and she was afraid he’d leave her if he found out she slept with someone else.

Asher’s patient name was Eva. Eva was religious. Everything about her situation made her question the extent of her faith. It also helped nurse Jackie take her mind off of her divorce. Jackie was getting a divorce because she self-harmed after working every hour of the day. Her husband was unemployed at the time.

He wanted his wife to do extra shifts. He just never considered that working in the burn unit would push her to her limits and he failed to notice when Jackie started cutting herself.

Now, the ex-husband wants to use what happened to Jackie against her. She was on a psych hold. She started therapy. She hasn’t hurt herself in over a year and she’s become a much better mother. Her ex shouldn’t have used her past against her. He was only doing so now because he wants to take their daughter out of state.

He wants to leave Chicago. He was going to move in with his family and he didn’t care that he was uprooting his daughter. Or taking her away from a loving parent. The ex was the worst.

Jackie was too busy fighting him in court that she wasn’t there when Eva made a confession. Eva didn’t have premarital sex. She was sexually assaulted by someone she knew. She said everything to Asher and Asher has to help her through the process of admitting to herself what actually happened.

Eva thought of it as a dirty secret, but she needed to see it as a crime. Asher wanted to help her and she left Ripley to fend for himself. Ripley’s patient took a turn for the worse. He admitted to Frost that he’s the one that beat up the guy. Its why he needed Adam O’Rourke to live.

Ripley said that in front of the patient’s wife. Frost took him off the case. They eventually saved their patient and Ripley found himself suspended without pay. He was becoming too much of a liability. This wasn’t the first time he screwed up or got the hospital sued. Sharon Goodwin told him that she was going to push for him to be terminated.

There’s a good chance that the board will agree with her and Ripley will be forced to find a new hospital. There’s no telling what this will do with his relationship with Asher.

Also, Dr. Charles might not take it so well that Ripley screwed up again. Charles put Ripley on notice when they first met. He also was the first to catch on to Ripley’s shifty character and so Ripley getting suspended probably validates his concern for him and he would have talked to him if he had been at the hospital. Charles was actually with Jackie.

He testified in her favor. Her ex-husband and his lawyer accused them of having an affair. Charles denied it. There was a brief moment where they could have become something more to each other. And they both let it slide.

The judge didn’t listen to anyone’s slander. He gave Jackie fifty/fifty custody. She thanked Charles for his help and the two of them talked. Charles told her that they couldn’t be anything more.

He was a therapist. He couldn’t turn the shrinking off. Which Jackie thought was a weak excuse. The two of them argued before they went their separate ways and they weren’t the only ones to break up. Asher broke things off with Ripley. Asher finally got Eva to admit to her fiancé that she was assaulted. And the fiancé wanted Eva to apologize for the procedure as well as the assault.

He felt God allowed him to judge Eva for just trying to survive and Asher couldn’t listen to another weak man’s excuses.

Maggie in the meantime helped a trans woman with dementia. The woman forgot to take care of herself once her memory started to go and so for years she was misgendered as a man.

Maggie helped her feel like a woman again. She also got the woman into an LGBTQIA facility. And she gets to be herself again.

THE END!
