ASA Nina Champman was back! She wrapped up her RICO case. She was back at work in Chicago and wanted to catch up with Voight, but she came back just as there was an uptick in crime. The West Side of Chicago was going through a turf war. There were several gangs that operated one or two blocks. They each wanted more. They were fighting for more. They were shooting up the whole area. Chicago PD was all brought in to put an end to the turf war. They were unfortunately too late to save some of the victims.

There was a bus driver that caught a stray bullet. He died on the scene. Just not before he asked Voight to tell his family he loves them. Voight kept his promise to him and he informed the family. Voight also came across a kid with footage of the shooting. The intended target was Carl Samson. He was the one that the shooters were aiming for and he ran away to save himself. He unfortunately went to his sister’s place. He was later found there. His killer sprayed the whole house in bullets and it was a miracle that Carl’s sister Janae wasn’t injured.

She took out the trash. She was outside in the back when the killer shot up her house. It was her neighbors that called the cops. Janae didn’t want the police’s help. She didn’t think they cared about her neighborhood or its people. She was yelling at everyone to just leave her alone when Voight broke through her grief. He promised to get justice for her brother. He couldn’t do that if she was withholding information and so Jane told him. She told him that her brother posted a video on social media mocking the Macklin Hustlers.

Carl told her that those same men would kill him after he posted the video. What Carl didn’t tell her was how bad he mocked them. He called them “b” words. The “p” words. He was using the whole alphabet. He claimed their drugs were fake and that they were selling them at premium prices. The Macklin Hustlers found out what he said. They hunted him down and they killed him. They sorta had to because they were still coming up. There was about four of them in all. They operated two blocks. They couldn’t let it get out that they were weak or they’d never become something more.

The cops sent in Officer Cook. She pretended to be a drug addict. She approached one of the Macklin Hustlers for a drug buy. It was about to go through when a former client of theirs tried to stop the buy. The guy claimed the drugs were sham. He was warning Cook not to buy from them. He also got into a fight with the guy selling drugs and the other guy pulled a gun. Both men got arrested before they hurt each other. The Maklin Hustler they arrested was Kaiden. Kaiden came from a good family. He was attending a good school and he dropped out to join an upcoming gang. It was stupid.

The cops couldn’t believe how stupid he was. They tried to give him an out. They were looking for a killer. They promised Kaiden a great deal. Yet, Kaiden refused to talk. He wasn’t going to help the cops bring down his friends. He didn’t even care that he was on the hook for conspiracy to commit murder. He was really stupid and so the cops didn’t need him. They followed his movements on the day of the shooting. They found the house he was staying at. They found a cell phone that was left unlocked. It showed Kaiden in the photo with his friends and the murder weapon.

The Macklin Hustlers were run by Hamani. There was a chance that Hamani personally killed Carl. Kaiden was no help and so the cops went looking for the Maklin Hustler by themselves. They eventually found them. They moved in. Only Hamani wasn’t there. The cops covered the back and the front. Hamani’s disappearance was a mystery. The cops checked the schematics of the house. There was a crawl space that Hamani might have used to escape. Voight tried to talk to Kaiden about it and that’s when Kaiden’s lawyer showed up.

Everyone assumed the lawyer was hired by one of his friends only they were wrong. The lawyer talked Kaiden into making a deal. Kaiden got a great plea deal and he confessed that Hamani killed those people. He killed the bus driver by accident. He killed Carl to prove he was tough. Kaiden told the cops where they could find Hamani. This sudden u-turn came as a surprise to most of the Intelligence officers. They couldn’t see why Kaiden would flip now that he has a lawyer. The lawyer helped Kaiden to help himself.

The whole unit felt something was off. Voight told them to ignore that gut feeling. They followed Kaiden’s directions and they found Hamani. They killed him when he tried to pull a gun on them. It was Deputy Chief Reid that killed him. Reid was up to something too. He has dirt on Voight and Voight heard from his sources that Reid likes “collecting” people. Voight asked Reid how many people does he own? And Reid wouldn’t answer but Voight suspected the lawyer that got Kaiden off was owned by Reid as well.

Voight also tried telling Carl’s sister that they killed her brother’s killer. Sadly, she was already dead by then. She was murdered while she was trying to score drugs. She might have been killed by the same man that hired Kaiden that lawyer. The lawyer that got Kaiden to talk was in fact working for the Maklin Hustlers’ biggest rival. Reid knew about it and he was fine letting it happen because he thought the rival was better for business.

Reid crowning a new drug kingpin was a step too far for Voight and he planned on taking Reid down.
