In tonight’s FBI episode, someone shot up a shelter. They pretended like they were dropping off food. The shelter receives a lot of food donations from people in the neighborhood and the security guard didn’t suspect anything nefarious when he let the man in. It was once inside that the man showed his true colors.
He killed eleven people. He didn’t care who was homeless or who were staff. He killed as many as he could and one of them happened to be a firefighter that ran into the building when he heard shots. This became a federal case because of the location.
The shelter has been taking in a lot of undocumented immigrants. They received extra money from the state for doing so. The fact that the killer targeted that specific shelter had everyone believing this was a hate crime. The theory was further cemented when they found out who their shooter was.
There was a teenage girl at that shelter that was recording a video for her science project. Her father was filming it and he captured the shooter on camera. The shooter’s name is Vernon Walsh. He was in a biker gang until most of them went to prison.
Walsh has been living with his cousin ever since. The cousin’s name was Corbin Walsh. He builds things with a 3D printer and that’s what Walsh used to create his gun. When Walsh first entered the shelter, no one took him seriously because his gun looked fake. It looked plastic.
It wasn’t until he was killing people that they started to run. Walsh also has a history of racism. He attacked another biker for being a “race traitor” for marrying an Asian woman. His criminal past on top of his racism should have warned his cousin to never bring him around his work and still he did.
The FBI went to go talk to Corbin. They asked him to call his cousin for them. He claimed he left his phone in the back and he ran in spite of Maggie warning him not to. The FBI had people outside.
OA caught up to Corbin. He arrested him. The shelter had been in OA’s old neighborhood. His sister even used to volunteer at that shelter. They were both great fans of the man that ran the place and now that man is dead. OA was more than angry. He wanted revenge and he roughed up Corbin a little more than he should.
Maggie didn’t report him. He just got unlucky that a bystander recorded him. Isobel later talked to OA about living his private life at home. She was a great example of that herself.
She’s been married for two months. OA was the only that knows that. He also knows that she became a stepmother to three girls. Isobel didn’t even tell Jubal that and so OA needed to learn how to compartmentalize. He left Corbin’s interrogation to Maggie. She and Scola got Corbin to admit he did make the gun for his cousin.
They didn’t plan the shooting because of race. They were hired. Walsh was hired by the Jalisco cartel. They sent him to that shelter to kidnap a woman and that woman was pretending to be a refugee.
Her name is Ines Madera. She was the longtime mistress to Jorge Ortega. The leader of the Jalisco cartel. She apparently left him and stole some of his money to start over somewhere else, but he wasn’t the type to move on. He put out a five million dollar bounty on her. He wanted her to be brought back to him.
Ortega paid Walsh to grab Ines from that shelter. The deaths were just to confuse everyone. The FBI later found Walsh dead. Ines seemed to have killed her kidnapper and she once again on the run. Finding her became their new objective. They found out that Ines was buying phone cards from bodega to call her family back home.
She didn’t stay on the calls for long. Just long enough to say she’s okay. The cartel still managed to track her down and it was only by chance that the feds got to her before anyone else did. They also found a bag of cocaine on her.
Ines was questioned. She admitted she stole the bag of cocaine to help fund her new life. The bag wasn’t anything big to Ortega and so the FBI were still confused on why Ortega wanted her back.
Ines ended up telling them the whole story. She was a beautiful teenager. Ortega saw her once and he went to her parents’ home to collect her. They didn’t have a choice in letting her go. She didn’t even have a choice of telling that man no. She ran because the two of them have a secret. They have an eight year old son together.
The son’s name is Miguel. Ines ran with Miguel to the states. She has a best friend back in Jalisco. Her friend’s brother lived in Brooklyn and he was watching Miguel for Ines. With Ines in custody, the feds went to go collect Miguel. They were unfortunately too slow because Miguel was grabbed by someone known as “El Diablo”.
His babysitter was found murdered in his apartment. The feds later identified this devil. His name is Nestor Cruz. He was former Mexican police. He tried bringing down Ortega and Ortega responded by killing Cruz’s family.
Ortega set mother and daughter on fire. He sent the video of it to Cruz. Cruz has wanted revenge for a long time and Miguel will get him that. Cruz reached out to Ortega.
He was demanding that Ortega trades himself for his little boy. He didn’t know how monstrous Ortega really was. The thing that finally convinced Ines to run away with her son was the fact that Ortega took Miguel to the stables. Miguel thought he was getting a new horse. He instead saw a rival drug dealer tied up and his father demanded that he kill this man. He gave him a gun and everything.
Poor Miguel couldn’t go through with it. He was only eight. He cried until his father took the gun away and now Cruz thinks he can trade Miguel for Ortega. He thinks Ortega truly cares for the boy.
The sad fact being that he only cares about how he’s perceived. He doesn’t actually love anyone. Ortega wasn’t going through with the trade and he was willing to notify the DEA about Cruz’s demands. The DEA were hoping to resolve the matter peacefully. They thought that by rescuing Miguel that Ortega might agree to assist their department in the future.
Again, people were underestimating Ortega. He was horrible. The feds found Cruz. They took him down. They rescued Miguel. The DEA made a deal with Ortega.
Ortega gave the DEA the means to take down three rival cartels. They felt he deserved a reward after that and so they returned Miguel to him. Ines couldn’t go with him because she was under arrest for carrying the cocaine from earlier. And now there’s no one to protect Miguel against his father.
The only thing that OA could do was deliver some food to the shelter. That at least made him feel like he did something good.
THE END!
