In tonight’s FBI Recap, Maggie was in a new relationship. The FBI Special Agent didn’t really date much. She was a widow. She kinda focused on work to grieve and it didn’t leave much opportunities to meet someone. Not unless you count the crooks she arrests. Maggie finding the time to date now meant she was finally ready to move on.
She met a great guy. He didn’t mind her unusual work hours. He didn’t even get upset at the start of tonight when she was called in to work. The feds were brought in to investigate a murder and the body was dumped on federal land. And that made it a federal crime.
The victim was also a federal employee. Vanessa Walker was brought in to make cuts in various departments of the government. She fired over a thousand people in the last month and her killer cut her over a thousand times. She could have been killed by any one of those people, but the feds chief suspect was Mack Fuller.
Fuller’s brother lost his job then he killed himself. Mack blamed Vanessa for his brother’s death. He later told the feds that she put out a press release after his brother died and never tried to contact anyone or take responsibility for the part she played.
Mack stalked Vanessa. He showed up drunk frequently outside of her house. Neither she nor her husband ever paid much attention to him. Vanessa shouldn’t even have been in New York when she died.
She left work a day early because she planned on surprising her husband for their anniversary. She never made it home and Mack later said he never saw her that night. He showed up at her house waiting for her. She never came home. He then decided to go to a nearby bar. He was seen getting into a bar fight the same time that Vanessa’s killer was dumping her body.
Mack wasn’t their killer. The feds had to go back to Vanessa’s many enemies. They also received a letter from a different department in the building. Someone sent a note saying they were going to kill a bunch of women. They said they weren’t going to stop with just one and so this could be a serial in the making.
The killer left a symbol on the back of the note. It was the sign for the goddess Athena also known as Minerva. The feds followed the clues and they found the second victim. It was another woman.
The second victim’s name was Laura Flemming. She was actually killed first. She was killed two days before Vanessa and so the note that the killer sent to the DOJ could have saved Vanessa’ life if the feds had taken it seriously. They instead sat on it until two women were dead. The killer likes playing games with the feds.
He leaves these notes because he wanted to test the feds and that’s why the note stuffed in Laura’s mouth would have led them to Vanessa if they had found Laura earlier. Jubal was frankly sick of the mind games.
He ordered his team to hunt this killer. They weren’t going to wait for the next body or the next clue. They found out the killer was using butcher paper and they were able to connect it to a certain butcher. Someone was recently fired from the place.
His former bosses were waiting for him to clear out his locker and so the feds checked the locker for themselves. Wesley Cookler was seemingly a huge fan of serial slasher, Ray DiStefano. Maggie knew Ray well. She arrested him twice and he was now behind bars because of her.
Maggie didn’t know how, but she figured Ray must be in contact with this new killer. The cuts out from newspaper made her believe this new guy was too much of a fan not to reach out.
Maggie went to prison to visit Ray. She questioned him. She also showed him photos of the crime. Ray actually got upset with the photos. He never killed his victims. He slashed them in such a way that they were scarred for life and that meant he was connected to them for the rest of their lives. He thought killing was beneath him. He wasn’t helping their suspect. The guy was just a copycat.
The killer slashed his victims the same way Ray slashed his first victim. The one that made Ray a star. Ray bragged about that to Maggie. He said every woman looked behind her shoulder after the first one and the new guy wanted to imitate that. Their suspect could be recognized by his two different color eyes.
The feds also realized how he was picking his victims. He became a cab driver after he was fired from the butcher shop. He was picking up women by themselves that have just gotten into town.
The feds had a chance to catch him when he picked up his third victim. They were unfortunately too late. He managed to get away with Melody Walton. Only he saw Maggie before he escaped with the girl. Maggie was a huge part of Ray’s story. She was the one that captured Ray twice and so he was bound to reach out to her.
It turns out Wesley Cookler wasn’t even his real name. He chose Wesley because that’s where Ray took his victims first – to an abandoned place on Wesley street. The feds went to the location. Their suspect wasn’t there and neither was his victim.
Cookler whose real name is Darryl Ricklan had watched the feds search the abandon place. He had set up cameras to watch the feds. He called Maggie. He taunted her.
He showed her where he was hiding with Melody and he said he’d be long gone by time they find her body. Darryl didn’t want to be like Ray. He wanted to be better than Ray. He wanted to be more famous than Ray was. Its why he lured Maggie to that second location because he wanted to kill her. And Scola put him down before that could happen.
Maggie only got Ray to assist them by promising furlough to visit his dying father, but she made that deal after the father died and so Ray didn’t like being planned. He threatened to find her the second he gets out.
THE END!
