Sharon did a good thing. It doesn’t matter what Bode thinks about it. She got a multi-billion dollar company to clean up chemical waste. Something they would never normally do. She also got Manny out of prison. He was released early. He can now return to his life like nothing happened. He can be a proper father again. Gabriella really needed him this past year. She struggled after she called off the wedding. She was finally finding her footing again. She started a new relationship and Manny gets to be there for all of it now.

Only it came with a price. Manny hated signing that NDA. He hated that he was released early while his guys were still locked up. He has survivor’s guilt and Bode understood. He hated the deal with Oxalta too. They both thought Oxalta should face consequences publicly for poisoning men at the fire camp. They killed a firefighter. Birch was dead because of them and they just to get walk away? It was good that the camp gets to carry on now that their water was being cleaned out. It was good that Manny was released. It just wasn’t fair.

Bode was big about fairness after prison. Its why he talked to Renee Hoffman. She was his father’s ex-girlfriend from high school. She was now a lawyer and she heard about what happened. She didn’t know the specifics. The agreement with Oxalta also extended to NDAs everyone had to sign. Renee still managed to hear enough that she offered her services. She gave Bode her card. She asked him if he could put her in contact with everyone that Oxalta hurt. He agreed to do it even as Manny tried to warn him not to.

Bode didn’t see what he was doing was dangerous. He tried to talk to his mom about it the next day. They got into a shouting match at the station because she couldn’t believe how naïve he was being. Sharon did a lot with what she could do. She wasn’t going to throw that away because an ambulance chaser wanted to help. Her shouting match with her son at work was also unprofessional. Jake pointed that out because they had an audience building up outside. One member of that audience was Finn. Finn was doing a ride along at the station.

Something else Jake was upset about. Jake wanted to move up the ladder at CalFire. He wanted to become Battalion Chief and Vince told him that was only going to happen when he was dead. Jake then realized that he couldn’t move up the ladder if Vince was standing in his way. Vince hadn’t bothered to tell him about the ride along or ask his permission first. He doesn’t see Jake as a captain. He still Jake as a kid hanging out at the fire station. The worst part in all of this was that Vince wasn’t even there for the ride along. He was visiting his dad at the care home.

Jake was so frustrated that he told Audrey to branch out to a new station if she wants promotion. He said that forty-two has a ceiling and apparently he couldn’t crack it himself. Jake was beginning to become bitter when the station was called out to a rescue. There was an accident at a ski resort. About ten people were in danger. It was up to the firefighters to find them and treat them. Sharon was in charge. Bode was still being grumpy. Jake reminded the both of them to remain professional. They needed to help people. Not get into another fight about Renee.

They were off doing that when Manny did something dangerous. He called Renee. He thought he did it because he wanted to tell her that he couldn’t help her with the case and she called him out. She said a simple text would have suffice. No, Manny sought her out because he does want to talk. He met up with the rest of Three Rock. They just came back and they put up a plaque up in Birch’s memory. Manny felt guilty when he saw it. He nearly died himself because of what Oxalta did. There’s a part of him that doesn’t believe he should be rewarded for helping them get away with crimes.

Renee also reminded him that Oxalta wasn’t going to change policy. They were going to dump the chemicals somewhere else. They were going to hurt other people. They were going to get away with it again because they will always throw money at the problem. They never faced serious consequences. Renee reminded Manny of that and she was making the situation at hand harder to ignore. Or move pass. Manny was still talking to her when things took a turn for the worse at the ski resort.

The firefighters had to go up a mountain. They were up there when a fire broke out. Finn was the first to spot it because he was taking photos. He was a photographer. He saw the smoke and he alerted Sharon. Sharon told the firefighters on the mountain to come back down. She was going to do a water dump. The water dump could melt enough snow to cause an avalanche. Thereby killing anyone still trapped on the mountain. Bode came up with another plan and Sharon was refusing to hear it because of their fight.

Sharon said she was the Division Chief. She gave them an order to leave. Jake was the one that chose to ignore her. He didn’t do it for Bode. He also didn’t do it for promotion. He did it because Bode’s plan would save lives and that’s the only thing that mattered on that mountain. They were off doing that when Vince ran into a problem. He visited his dad. His dad made a new friend at the place and the guy thought seeing Vince would be great for Walter. Until Walter saw him, but he didn’t recognize him.

Walter mistakenly thought Vince was his brother, Luke. Luke was overseas now. He was also the baby. Walter favored him and Vince didn’t need to be reminded of that. Vince tried to leave. It was Noah that convinced him to stay. Noah didn’t always work at the care home. He was in prison when his own mom developed dementia. She didn’t recognize him. He thought that was a good thing because at least she remembered him at his best. He convinced Vince to come back in. To make memories with his dad.

They cooked Vince’s mom’s recipe. It reminded Walter of the past. Walter was even nice to Vince and he recognized Vince as his son. It was a great moment. Gabriella also had a great moment with Finn. They finally kissed. It was a great kiss that was then ruined. Finn gave Gabriela the ick. He wanted commitment and she wanted something casual. He later texted her five times in the span of a minute. He was a lot. He was too much for Gabriela. She wasn’t ready for that type of relationship. She told Audrey as much.

Jake had followed Bode’s plan. It worked. It saved lives. It also resulted in his suspension. Sharon suspended him for ignoring orders and she also apologized to Bode for their argument earlier. They were cut from the same cloth. They both were willing to do what they thought was right no matter the consequences. It’s why Bode told his mom that he was dropping this thing with Renee when he wasn’t. He later contacted her. Manny hired her as his attorney. They were going to go after Oxalta. And she warned him that it was going to get messy.

And Jake considering leaving forty-two for a different station.
