General Hospital (GH) recap for Friday, January 31, reveals that Trina Robinson (Tabyana Ali) assisted Kai Taylor (Jens Austin Astrup) with his back brace before pointing out he could still keep his PCU scholarship since he was injured on the field.
Kai wasn’t sure he even wanted to continue college and ultimately snapped that Trina wasn’t helping. After Kai calmed down, he pushed for time by himself.
Trina remained concerned about Kai once she left, so she made a phone call and asked for help.
At the boxing gym, Brad Cooper (Parry Shen) worked with a trainer and really pushed himself since he wanted to look good for Lucas Jones (Van Hansis) during the Miami medical symposium trip.
At GH later, Brad asked Portia if he could have an extra day of vacation to add to his time in Miami.
Portia warned Brad about testing the limits of their arrangement and asking for too much, but she ultimately relented on the extra day.
At the Metro Court, Portia met up with Curtis Ashford (Donnell Turner), so he reassured her about the project Drew Quartermaine (Cameron Mathison) stalled since he had a plan to handle him.
Curtis also offered updates on some island getaway news since he needed to scout out locations for some new Aurora resorts. Portia was definitely on board with enjoying some sand and sun.
Back at the boxing gym, Jordan Ashford (Tanisha Harper) complained about Drew stalling the esplanade project that they worked together on.
Drew put the blame on Curtis, so Jordan summoned him in hopes that they could work things out.
However, Curtis and Drew only wound up bickering before Drew suggested settling this in the ring.
After Curtis hinted that Drew was making enemies when he was new to Congress and leaving himself vulnerable, he stomped off along with Jordan.
At the Metro Court again, Ric Lansing (Rick Hearst) corrected Ava Jerome’s (Maura West) mistaken assumption that he was now working pro bono.
That was a nice kiss they shared, but it wasn’t enough to stop Ric from charging Ava for his time.
Ava ultimately wanted to forget about that lip lock – at least until this custody situation was resolved. That said, Ava did leave the door open to seeing what would happen with Ric later.
In Diane Miller’s (Carolyn Hennesy) office, Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) got her assurance that she’d handle any issues that popped up regarding Charlie’s Pub now that he’d sold it to Kristina Corinthos-Davis (Kate Mansi).
Kristina was also there when Ric showed up with Ava to extend an offer, which gave Ava sole custody.
Diane laughed since Sonny would only get visitation every other weekend and no major holidays with Avery Corinthos (Ava and Grace Scarola).
Sonny steadied himself on the desk as he got agitated and eventually made it clear that he’d see Ava in court.
Kristina insisted she’d have no problems testifying on her father’s behalf, but Ric warned that she’d have to talk about some tough topics – like witnessing Sonny attacking Dex Heller (Evan Hofer) and her window tumble.
After Ric and Ava left, Diane warned about the challenges of the case since the penthouse fire was set intentionally – and that was a matter of public record.
Kristina’s witness account of Sonny’s assault on Dex could also be a problem.
Sonny acknowledged the fact that Ava was strapped for cash and assumed Ric was only helping her to get back at him.
Nevertheless, Kristina was adamant that they couldn’t let Ava win custody of Avery.
Kristina also spoke with Sonny alone about Sam McCall’s (Kelly Monaco) intentional digitalis overdose.
Although Kristina worried about Dante Falconeri (Dominic Zamprogna), Sonny didn’t want her to fret and vowed to take care of him.
Back with Ric, he talked to Ava about sensing something was going on with Sonny.
It left Ric speculating on reasons why Sonny might be wavering on this custody fight.
Meanwhile, Laura Collins (Genie Francis) met up with Lulu Spencer (Alexa Havins Bruening) and got her to open up about her lingering love for Dante along with the guilt she felt over Sam’s demise.
Laura pushed Lulu to confide in Dante next while Dante was busy yelling at Anna Devane (Finola Hughes) in her office. Anna insisted on locking Dante out of Sam’s murder investigation, though she did admit there was a person of interest.
After Anna put Dante on a week of paid leave, she said she wanted him to talk to the department psychologist when he got back. Dante reluctantly accepted Anna’s wishes before taking off.
At the Quartermaine stables, Brook Lynn Quartermaine (Amanda Setton) brought up her summer camp fling to Cody Bell (Josh Kelly), who recalled that she got pregnant and took off after a ride to the bus station.
However, Cody assured Brook Lynn that since she swore him to secrecy, he never revealed the pregnancy to Dante.
Later, Dante found Brook Lynn and leaned on her over the Sam investigation drama, so she pulled him into an embrace right as Lulu appeared and saw them.
Across town, Cody barged in Anna’s office looking for Mac Scorpio (John J. York) since he needed to send a message to Robert Scorpio (Tristan Rogers) about something.
Anna suggested she could help instead, so Cody said Sasha Gilmore Corbin (Sofia Mattsson) was in trouble and blamed Jason Morgan (Steve Burton).
After Anna pushed for more details, Cody finally blurted out that Sasha was pregnant and Jason was the father!
