Molly’s ex-fiancé was still in town. He didn’t want to leave without her. She didn’t want to be with him. It was going around in circles and Blue couldn’t do anything about it. It was up to Molly to tell Dave off. Blue just has to sit back. He didn’t even get a say in Molly’s surgery. Molly wanted surgery to help her reclaim her memories. She was in a nasty car accident years ago and she forgot everything before then. It’s also why her relationship with Blue didn’t work the first time around. She couldn’t remember him. She needed time to rebuild her life and Blue let her go in the hope she’d come back. And now she has.

Molly wanted her relationship with Blue to work. She broke up with Dave. She was considering relocating to Seattle. She also wanted the surgery so that she could reclaim all the memories she once shared with Blue. Blue didn’t want her to have surgery, but he didn’t think it was his place to talk her out of it. He was trying to be the supporting boyfriend when Dave crossed a line. Dave showing up at Blue’s house was one thing. The man the showing up at the hospital was something Blue couldn’t ignore or forgive.

Blue confronted Dave. He told him that Molly didn’t want to be in a relationship with him. Only Dave said he didn’t come to the hospital to fight for her. He came because Molly wasn’t telling the truth. Molly withheld certain facts about her health. It might even affect her surgery. Dave had to come forward because Molly was risking too much by trying to remember. He was filling Blue in on the truth when Lucas’s sudden depression was finally explained. Lucas wasn’t moving up a year with the rest of the interns. He has to start his first year all over again.

They were all getting ready for more responsibilities while he was stuck in neutral. It was Simone that was considered the rock star of the interns. The doctors all wanted to work with her. Amelia and Richard even tried to compete against each other in getting her on their service. Simone herself downplayed her status. She didn’t want to lord it over her friends or her boyfriend. She didn’t talk about it with Lucas and so she didn’t know about his depression. She just knew he’s been acting off since she got her first solo surgery.

Lucas meanwhile was assigned to Nick and Richard’s service. They were together to treat one of Nick’s old patients. Ben was also riding with them and he proved himself to be bold. Ben tried to get a solo surgery. He didn’t get it only he did show Lucas that it never hurts to ask. Simone was also sitting on another surgery. Amelia was Molly’s neurosurgeon. Simone was supposed to assist, but Blue asked her to keep an eye on Amelia. He said Amelia has been known to push it. He left out the part that Dave told him.

Dave said that Molly had a nervous breakdown. She did everything possible to get her memories back. She drained all of her savings looking for a cure and her family had to force her into therapy. Now Dave was worried she was spiraling again. She gave up her whole life to start over in Seattle. She was trying a new and experimental surgery. What happens if she doesn’t get her memories back? Will she push for more surgery? Her mental health needed to be considered and so Dave tried to warn Blue. And Blue dismissed him.

Blue thought Dave was saying all of that because Molly chose him. He had the chance to talk to Molly about what Dave said. He chose not to because he was afraid of what he might hear and so he pushed off his fears on Simone. He begged her to keep Amelia in check. It wasn’t something an intern was supposed to do. Simone did it anyways because Blue was her friend. She questioned Amelia and now she wasn’t the favorite anymore. Amelia wouldn’t even let her close on Molly’s skull.

The saddest part is that the surgery didn’t work. Molly thought it worked because she had a memory. The memory was of her with Dave and that meant she didn’t get back any memories with Blue. Blue tried to tell her that they can make new memories now. It just wasn’t enough for Molly. Molly wanted another surgery. She wanted to keep pushing until she ran out of all choices. Blue couldn’t convince her differently. The whole thing showed him that Dave was right. Molly was spiraling and Blue didn’t know how to help her.

Meanwhile Teddy went to a conference with Bailey. They ran into Cass. Cass helped them with their slideshow. She also made out with Teddy. Teddy and Owen agreed to have an open marriage. Teddy was free to explore her feelings for Cass. Owen was free to explore his feelings for Nora. Nora stopped by the hospital by the way. Her pregnant friend was feeling ill. It turns out she had food trapped in her esophagus. Winston had Jules perform the procedure to help their patient. He was a great mentor.

Nick was a good mentor to Lucas. Lucas’s patient had a failing kidney. He has received three kidneys in three different surgeries. They all eventually fail him. He could ask his brother for a kidney, but they don’t talk and so he’ll go back on the donor list. Lucas didn’t feel like he was a bad surgeon. He wanted to know if he could plead his case with Catherine. And Richard warned him that was never going to happen because Catherine doesn’t change her mind.

Lucas was stuck repeating his first year. Blue and Molly also broke up. Molly was only with him because she thought he could help her regain her memories and Blue deserved to be with someone that wants him for the right reasons.

And while Teddy couldn’t bring herself to sleep with someone else, Owen didn’t have the same problem.
