During the convenience store robbery, Lucas stepped up. He saved everyone. He tackled the armed robber and the gun went off in the struggle. The robber was shot. Lucas was fine only this robbery brought back some ugly memories for his family. Lucas’s grandfather died during a similar event. Amelia and Derrick were there at the time when their father murdered. It led to both of them struggling throughout their adult life. Amelia became a drug addict. She was clean now. She’s been clean for years and so hearing that her nephew nearly died the same way as his grandfather had brought up some ugly memories.
Lucas didn’t kill the robber. Lucas administered CPR the moment he noticed the guy was shot. He kept him stable and he called for an ambulance to rush both Damon the thief and Jo to the hospital. Jo was pregnant. She was actually carrying twins. She felt some abdominal pain during the robbery. Stress was not great for pregnant women. Jo was still feeling some pain when he reached the hospital. The first thing that Bailey did was ultrasound Jo’s stomach. The twins were fine. There just wasn’t any explanation for the pain she was feeling.
Jo was moved to the OBGYN department. She started to bleed during the transfer. They got it under control. The bleeding stopped and she was still feeling a pressure down below. The resident on call was Marcus. He worked side by side with Jo before. He was also much younger than her. She doesn’t really see him as a trusting figure. She practically begged Bailey for anyone else. There was no else available and so she got stuck with Marcus. Marcus was the worst. He has dad jokes. He didn’t know anything about keeping Jo calm.
The one thing Marcus was good at was his job. He found the problem with Jo’s cervix. She needed a cerclage. It was a minor procedure and both he and Jo knew it was best for her condition. It was Link that was against it. He didn’t trust Marcus. He said he has shirts older than Marcus. Link was a doctor himself. He felt there were other things they should try first. He wouldn’t listen to Jo. She wouldn’t listen to him either and so Bailey sent him out of the room. Link was raising Jo’s blood pressure the longer they kept talking.
Link later had a moment where he allowed himself to get angry. He said that Jo’s been pushing away since they found out they were having twins. He understood why she does it. It’s her coping method. It just doesn’t make it any easier to live with. Link felt like he wasn’t being heard or allowed to have a say with this pregnancy. Today was traumatic for him too. They just found out they were pregnant with twins and then he heard she was involved in armed robbery and now she needed a procedure. He was overwhelmed.
He needed some time to calm down. Bailey had to remind him that it was his job to support Jo. Which doesn’t come with conditions. Link soon saw that for himself because he does care. He loves Jo. He’s always loved Jo. He knew deep down that he should trust her judgment and he just needed to get out of his own head. The same for Lucas. Lucas had a small panic attack. Everyone told him to rest. They told him to see the therapist. He survived a shooting and he was dismissive of that at first.
He thought he could work through the trauma.
Until he had a panic attack. Ben talked him through it. Ben got him to the other side and then gave Lucas some cases to work. He had a panic attack not a heart attack. He can keep working. He did keep working. He was fine and it was actually Jules that messed up. She didn’t properly strapped Damon to a table during his surgery. Damon later rolled over. He needed additional surgery to fix what the fall caused. Teddy chewed out Simone because she thought Simone was at fault and really it was Jules that messed up.
Jules was sad that Mika was gone. Mika left the program. She left Jules. They were starting something and she left at the worst possible time. Jules was so upset that she bit Simone’s head off. She then froze when Teddy yelled at Simone. It didn’t technically matter that Jules later confessed to Richard that she was at fault. It was like Richard told her. He’s not the only she should be apologizing to. To be fair to her, Jules did try to talk to Simone. Then she saw Simone with Lucas. She saw that they were happy while she was not and she walked away before she could apologize to Simone.
Jules also wasn’t entirely at fault for Teddy’s extreme reaction. Teddy yelled at everyone that day. They were going through a record-breaking heatwave. They ran out of room in the ED. There was also another reason why Teddy might be angry. Teddy might have suspected that her husband was pulling her away from her. Owen doesn’t react well with stress. He’s always either had a wife or fiancé and he tends to cheat on them whenever the going gets tough. He almost cheated with Nora tonight.
Nora has known him for year. She even had a crush on him when they were younger. She was now getting a divorce. Owen was fighting with Teddy. Owen and Nora almost kissed tonight and luckily it didn’t go any further. Nora just had surgery. She had to go back to the hospital because she developed an infection. Owen was treating her and, while he does pull a lot of crap with his partners, he does try not to sleep with his patients. Speaking of his last wife, Amelia had a tough day. She treated a brain aneurysm in a teenager named Jackie. Jackie’s heart gave out and so she needed surgery for that too.
Jackie also had to get her spine drained. There was fluid that was putting pressure on the spine in such a way that it left her temporarily paralyzed. She was fine the moment they finished draining her spine. Amelia also talked to Winston about Jackie’s care. He was brought in without all the details and he told Amelia that he doesn’t work that way. He needed to know everything or she can find herself a different doctor to assist her. Blue overheard the whole thing. He chose to be discreet and he didn’t tell his friends about it.
Blue didn’t even tell Molly. The two of them got back together. Molly just needed to break things off with her ex and Blue said he’d wait for her. They could figure out their lives later. Right now, they were just happy to be back together. She was the great love of his life. It took him a moment to realize that and now he was going to fight for her like never before.
And Jo was fine. She had the procedure. It was a success thanks in large part to Link. Link and Jo talked. She apologizes for pushing him away. She was used to operating on her own and she still was working on having a healthy and functional relationship. Link understood. He agreed to be what Jo needed him to be. Tonight, he was the guy that told Marcus to keep his dad jokes to himself.
