In tonight’s NCIS episode, the NCIS office in Sydney was still fairly new. It’s been open for less than a year. The agents there have already dealt with Russian spies on top of a delicate kidnapping.
However tonight they had to deal with a traitor as well. The traitor was Colonel Rankin. He was supposed to oversee the NCIS’s office handing over a Russian spy to the Americans. He instead seems to have been working with the Russians all along. His phone number was on a Russian spy’s phone. The same man that kidnapped JD’s nine year old son.
JD’s son was saved when they handed over the notorious spy, Anna Neimus. Anna ended up killing the kidnapper before she fled. She could be anywhere in the world, but somehow it was NCIS that got in trouble.
The Americans really wanted Neimus. They arrived in Sydney only to hear she somehow escaped. There was also no sign of Rankin. Rankin was confronted by Mackey. She asked him why he was in contact with a spy and the man couldn’t answer her. He actually had a heart attack just so he wouldn’t have to answer her.
Mackey didn’t want to lose sight of Rankin after that. She brought him to the hospital. She had him brought in under a fake name and pretended to be his niece. When JD showed up, she had to talk him out of killing Rankin.
She told him that Rankin was the only one who could help them track down the other Russian spies and she wasn’t wrong. JD came to see that for himself. Mackey and JD pretended to be married when they spoke to Rankin’s doctor. They acted all concerned about their “uncle” and that’s when they were told the bad news.
The doctor wasn’t exactly optimistic about Rankin’s condition. His heart attack wasn’t just some cop out. He has a pacemaker that should have stopped a heart attack.
The pacemaker didn’t work because it was handled by a third party and someone hacked his pacemaker to bring about the heart attack. Whoever was in charge amongst the Russians spies in Syndey, they hadn’t wanted Rankin to talk. They took him out of the picture and they went on to hire Neimus for another job in Sydney.
Blue put that last part together. NCIS was technically in a disarray after Neimus escaped. Both Mackey and JD were suspended pending an investigation. They weren’t even allowed back at the office. Jackson was in charge temporarily and the whole team was quietly talking to both Mackey and JD on the down low.
The two of them called the rest of the team about the pacemaker. Blue looked into it. She found out that there was a listening device in the fake pacemaker. Rankin also never had the official surgery to get the pacemaker put in. It wasn’t in his file.
It was some off the books thing.
The faulty pacemaker was put in just to spy on Rankin. He was never in control here. His cell phone was also searched and it led them to the account of whoever was calling the shots.
That person had an account that paid off Yarislav the kidnapper. It also paid Neimus several times. The most recent payment was after Rankin was in a coma and so Neimus was paid to take him out.
She even approached JD. She threatened his son again to find out where Rankin was. The fact she didn’t outright kill him was her way of saying thank you.
JD warned her that Yarislav wanted to kill her. He was winging it and he turned out to be right. Yarislav was paid to kill JD’s son, JD, and Neimus. One would think that would make Neimus get out of dodge, but nope she stuck around. She even went back to the shot caller to accept the job of killing Rankin.
Which was why she harassing JD again. JD was so traumatized about what almost happened with his son that he didn’t try to lie to Neimus. He told her where Rankin was. He gave her the address and then he told Mackey what he did. And together they stopped Neimus.
They moved Rankin. They laid in wait for Neimus. She showed up and naturally she tried to shoot her way out. She grabbed a teen boy as a hostage. She was threatening to kill him if JD didn’t drop his gun.
The silly thing never noticed that Mackey was close. Mackey shot Neimus. It was a shoulder wound and she will survive to face a trial back in the United States. Neimus was finally transferred there tonight. NCIS also got to keep their office in Sydney. No one was fired. They also didn’t have to face an HR investigation now that they’ve rectified things with Neimus’s capture.
Rankin meanwhile had a funeral. A very public funeral. He was actually still in a coma and his family was at his side. It was everyone’s hope that he’d wake up one day to answer questions, but that didn’t seem likely in the near future. And unfortunately the Russians now know they could target the NCIS Agents’ families.
Mackey has a teen son back in the States. Doc has his wife. Blue, Evie, and even Jackson have the team. And JD’s son has already been through enough.
THE END!
