In tonight’s NCIS: Sydney episode, Blue was a woman of secrets. She doesn’t know when her birthday is. She made up one for APD application. She might also have gotten her name from a song called “Five Walls”.
The artist that performed that song was now touring Australia and Blue made sure to be at her concert. She also made sure not to be captured on anyone’s cell phone. It’s like she was hiding from something or someone. She wasn’t usually the face of an NCIS investigation and so she doesn’t have to be recognized while she’s working, but she was definitely in hiding,
There was a scene at the concert. The superstar known as Nova Sykes was performing with an American Navy Choir. Petty Officer Sally Poole was singing a duet with her and then she just collapsed.
It was an allergic reaction. She has a serious allergy. Nova was also allergic. Nova called for her EpiPen because it was closer and she tried to save Sally’s life. It sadly didn’t work. Sally died onstage in front of everyone and her death was later proven to be murder. Sally was murdered because someone spiked the smoke machine.
It was a Pop concert. They all have smoke machines. Which was how the killer got their idea. They spiked the smoke machine with peanut oil. Sally was allergic and she died. Many also came to believe Sally wasn’t the intended victim.
They thought the intended target was Nova. Nova has a nut allergy too. She used her own EpiPen. She didn’t know someone had sabotaged the device. Nova was also going through exposure therapy. She tried to fix her allergy and its why she didn’t collapse onstage when Sally did.
Everyone believed someone was trying to kill Nova. Sally was merely collateral damage. The worst part about all of this was that Nova was in a relationship with Sally. They just started dating. Nova wrote a song about it.
They were singing it together when Sally went down onstage. The two hadn’t told anyone about their relationship. It was still fairly new. They started dating when Nova had an allergic reaction onstage at a different concert and Sally saved her life. The earlier incident could’ve played a part in who tried to kill Nova in Sydney.
Nova has one stalker that was pure crazy. The stalker’s name is Cassie Hayes. She threw a brick at Nova’s car window. She wrote death threats online. Nova has a restraining order against her. Cassie should never have gotten a ticket to the Sydney show. NCIS later tracked her down and questioned her. Cassie told them that she was gifted tickets. She thought Nova sent them to her. She also thought Nova was sending her messages through her songs. Cassie was truly crazy and yet she wasn’t lying about the tickets being a gift. Someone sent that to her.
Cassie also knew about Nova’s relationship with Sally. It’s odd that the stalker would know and not Nova’s father. The first the dad heard about it or so he claimed was when Nova tried to overdose. Nova visited the morgue to see Sally’s body. She wanted to say goodbye and then she tried to overdose in the bathroom. Blue made sure she got treatment. She saved Nova’s life. Not that Nora was grateful. Nova has been singing about manipulation and entrapment for years. Her father has such a control over her life that Nova wanted to escape.
She wanted to escape by any means.
Sally was that escape. Sally was about to desert the Navy. She got tickets for her and Nova. They were going to leave town together. Then someone kills Sally. They tried to keep Nova in her box and the one person that would do that was her father, Jeff. Blue tried to warn her team that it was Jeff. It didn’t help that his fingerprints wasn’t a match on the smoke machine. The bodyguard was. The bodyguard did what Jeff told him. Jeff took Nova to court. He said she was unfit to take care of herself because of her alcoholism.
Jeff controls everything. Nova didn’t even have access to her money, her properties, her cars, and her music. They all belonged to Jeff. He took control and didn’t want to let go. NCIS were interrogating the bodyguard while Blue went to Nova’s hotel. Jeff tried to get Nova to leave town and continue with the tour like she didn’t just lose her girlfriend. Blue knew she had to rescue Nova before then. She created a situation. She got Nova out of her hotel. She took Nova back to her place and Jeff found them there.
Jeff never intended to kill Nova. She was the cash cow. He just wanted control over her. Its why he killed Sally. He knew Nova wouldn’t stand up to him without outside support. Its also why he thought he could browbeat Nova back into her cage when he found her at Blue’s. Nova played along with her father. He left her outside because he wanted to finish off Blue. He wrote up a fake suicide letter that he thought he could pressure Blue into signing and both women fought back in their own way.
Nova got Blue’s neighbors to call APD. Blue meanwhile stabbed Jeff in the neck with the pen he gave her to sign the note. Blue’s friends quickly showed up. They arrested Jeff for murder. Nova was now finally free of him. It turns out she didn’t need anyone to fall back on. She could escape on her own and Blue showed that to her tonight.
Doc later realized that Blue got her name from Nova’s song, but he was willing to keep her secret because he knew she was running from someone herself.
The team also developed an earworm by listening to Nova’s songs and so they had karaoke at the office to help them unwind.
