Commander Hicks hasn’t heard back from Deputy Chief Bennett. She accused him of insubordination. She also threatened his job. She wanted to fire him and Hicks was ready to fight back. He was just waiting for her to make her move. Hicks was carrying on like nothing happened in the meantime. He was still at the office and Hondo needed advice. Hondo heard that his cousin signed up for the Marines. Hondo was former military himself. He knew it was a minimum of four years. This included tours overseas. He didn’t think Andre could handle it. Andre was someone looking for a quick and easy buck. And the Marines wasn’t it.
Hicks told Hondo to not underestimate the kid. Andre has money troubles. He owes people. Maybe the military would give them structure he needed. It also would come with a steady paycheck. It’s amazing what a steady paycheck does for someone. The two were still discussing it when the call came in. Deacon was working his side job with Gamble and Miko. They were offering private security to a basketball legend when they witnessed two college basketball players get abducted in broad daylight.
Deacon tried to stop it only there were too many of them. The kidnappers got away with the boys. They also used one of them to drain his bank account of five grand. Normally, college kids don’t have that type of money lying around. Things were different nowadays because college players now receive NIL money. Their likeness often generates an income before it can be used. Isiah “Ice” Jackson’s maximum withdrawal per day was five grand a day and so his kidnappers just needed to hold onto him for a few days and they’ll be set for a while.
They grabbed two boys. One was Ice. The other was his best friend, Caleb Webb. They have a handler to make sure they’re alright and the handler lost sight of them right before the kidnapping. The guys were lured into the garage. One of them connected to a girl on an app. His friend went with him and that’s when they were ambushed. The kidnappers were purely in it for the money. They didn’t seem like professionals because one of them took off his mask right as they were leaving the ATM. They got his face. And were able to use facial recognition.
His name is Nick Mays. Mays owes property far away from neighbors. SWAT thought the boys might be held there. They came on the scene and they arrived to witness Mays burn his own car. He and his partner were armed. They tried firing at the cops. They eventually arrested one man. Killed the other and the boys weren’t with them. Nor was Mays talking. SWAT checked him out. He and his dead partner were from Bakersfield. They were a part of Oildale Twenty-Two gang. They were running drugs and it didn’t seem likely that they would switch to kidnapping for no reason.
The cops checked Mays’s phone. He was torturing the boys for information. He was asking them “where is it”? It turns out that campus police received a call about drugs from the basketball players’ dorm. Their handler didn’t think that was connected because the boys were off playing that weekend. They weren’t home when the accusation was made. Their dorms were also searched. They didn’t have drugs. Their RA was the one that the gang wanted. He was the one that called for campus police.
The boys had nothing to do with it. They were tortured for information they didn’t have. By time the gang realized that, they went back to the dorm with guns. The RA had cheated them out of a deal. It involved Molly. It was also known as MDMA. The RA carried out the deal in the basketball players’ room. He was jealous of their NIL money. He also didn’t have any money to pay the drug dealer and so he just stole the Molly. The guy knew what he was going from the onset. He didn’t care that Ice and Caleb could die because of what he did.
Unfortunately, the gang realized they got the wrong ones. They went to the dorm looking for the RA. SWAT took down the gunman and they used the information that the RA gave them to track down the boys. They arrived in time to save Caleb. It was the Ice that was touch and go at first. Deacon stayed by his side while the rest of the team hunted down the gang. They caught them all. Ice also came back to them. He was saved by Deacon who kept him alive. The handler was so happy that she asked out Deacon and he had to tell her he was married.
Miko also ran through hoops all day. He was trying to get Deacon and his wife tickets to Springsteen on a different day. It was so that Nicole would have the night off. Nicole’s best friend was in town. She wanted to introduce Lexi to Miko. Only it couldn’t be the Saturday. Saturday was his mom’s birthday. He spends all day with his mom on her day. He didn’t grow up with much, but he makes up for it by providing love and attention now that he can. Anyways, he failed to get his ducks in a row. And it was Gamble that helped him to make everyone happy.
Powell meanwhile reached out to her son’s biological father. Thomas wanted to know his dad and Powell wasn’t sure if she should reach out to her ex. They were teenagers when they dated. He dumped her when she got pregnant. He wasn’t ready for responsibility then. Things were different now. He has more kids now. He was an adult now. He wanted to meet Thomas. He also wanted to apologize to Powell for everything that happened.
And Hondo spoke to Andre. Andre said his life has been out of control for a while. He wanted to finally fix it by becoming a Marine and yes the sign up bonus did help. It helped him to finally take control of his life again.
