Someone broke into Heather’s house. She worked for a college. She helps them with their basketball players. She also flirted with Deacon when they last met and so he was surprised she called him tonight. She called him over just plain old 911. It wasn’t a ploy either. Her house really was broken into. It was ransacked. Her things were everywhere. She told Deacon she came back from her run to find it like that and she had been scared whoever did it was still inside. Deacon checked. The man or whoever responsible were gone. Deacon offered to look into it for her.
Deacon didn’t anything of it at the time. He was soon worried about bigger things. There was someone possibly making war against LAPD. Two cops were gunned down at a local basketball game. There had been a witness claiming they saw a gang member known as Memo. Memo was with La Mira. It was a new gang trying to make a name for themselves, but Memo wasn’t even at the scene. The witness was either wrong or lying. Memo was at an engagement party and security cameras has him there the whole time. He didn’t kill no cops.
SWAT was leaving Memo’s house when the next call came in. There was a third cop that got shot. There’s no telling if he’ll survive. It was open warfare on cops and no one knew who was responsible. They went back to the witness. They questioned him on why he lied. He apparently has a sister that La Mira was eyeing. He didn’t want her to get jumped in. He lied because he was trying to protect his sister. He wasn’t behind the shooting. He didn’t play a part. He actually liked those officers.
The three victims were also all connected. They were involved in the De La Costa High School shooting. They were one of the first few on the scene and they failed to move in. It was probably fear of being outgunned. They stayed back. The shooter ended up killing seven kids and teachers. The cops were later sued. There was a lot of media backlash. They were blamed for what happened. Many felt they could have saved those people if they had taken action from the start. There was one guy that was the angriest. His name is Nelson Phillips.
Nelson’s daughter died in the shooting. She was class president. She had a bright future. Nelson couldn’t take it after she died. He blamed the cops. He was the first to sue the cops. He even started a Victims’ Rights Group with the other parents. The cops had to talk to Nelson. He was a suspect or might possibly knew other suspects. Hondo and Tan went to Nelson’s home. He was belligerent at first. He didn’t want to help them. He blamed them for his daughter’s death. He also had an alibi. He was in a Zoom meeting with his co-workers during the shooting.
Nelson also has a gun. The cops spotted it. They were going to have to take it when suddenly bullets started to fly. The shooter didn’t aim at the cops. He aimed at Nelson. Nelson took a shot to his shoulder. The cops returned fire. The shooter fled. Hondo pursued him. The guy got away. Only he dropped his gun. Hondo had forensics test the gun. It belonged to LAPD. Their shooter was a cop and they didn’t know why a cop was doing this. Was a cop killing everyone involved in the shooting or was one cop targeting people he thinks are killing the cops?
Both theories were wrong. It was a former cop behind everything. Claude Fournier was a third generation. He was a cop for six years when he spotted someone going into the high school with a gun. He called it in with his boss. He never heard back. He chose not to act without orders. Those people died. The lawsuits came. Fournier was named as the fall guy. He was first on the scene. He also didn’t take action. He froze and everyone hated him for it. He was labeled a coward. He was ultimately let go from LAPD.
The order to fire him came a week ago. Its why he just started killing people. He blamed everyone for what happened to him. He blamed the sergeant that never answered back. The other officers that didn’t take action. The parents that sued him. He has a long list and so Hondo didn’t believe that his therapist didn’t know. She was a therapist for cops. She never once saw Fournier as a threat. She recommended desk duty after the high school shooting. She also told Hondo she thought it was unfair that he was the only one punished for what happened that day.
The therapist gave Hondo the man’s whole file. Hondo thought she missed something. She gave him the file to see if he could spot what she didn’t and he couldn’t find anything. The doctor did everything by the book. He even apologized to Dr. Wendy. He judged her. He also made her doubt herself. She feared that Fournier’s end game was suicide by cop. The man could never explain why he became a cop. He did because it was expected. Not because he genuinely wanted to be one. She also felt he struggled because everyone abandoned him after that shooting.
The doctor was explaining that to Hondo when Fournier called her. She put him on speaker. She kept him talking while Hondo traced the call. Dr. Wendy begged Fournier to stop the killing. He agreed to stop if she came to him. The doctor had so many regrets that she didn’t hesitate to do what he wanted. She still wanted to save him. The doctor convinced Hondo let her go see Fournier. SWAT went with her. None of them wanted Fournier to die, but he played her. He played everyone. He created a diversion that SWAT fell for. They were off checking empty stairwells when Fournier abducted Dr. Wendy in a cop car.
Fournier had an endgame that was much worse than the doctor realized. He wanted to kill her too. He blamed her for getting fired. He couldn’t see what she saw. When she realized he never really wanted to be a cop, she tried to get additional support. She signed a form that was used for something else. The cops used that to fire Fournier. They made him look like he was the one responsible for what happened that day. The doctor explained this to him. She had called Hondo on her phone. And so he eventually showed up.
Dr. Wendy managed to talk him down. He turned himself in thanks to her. She stopped the killing and Deacon realized he had a problem on his hands. Heather faked her break in. Deacon got proof of that. He tried to talk to Heather about her need for attention. He advised her not to do it again because it was against the law and he genuinely wasn’t interested her. He was happily married. Which Heather ignored when she sent flowers to his house. She somehow figured out where he lived and that made her more dangerous.
Deacon tried to tell her to stay away from his family only she wasn’t listening.
Tan also had to move. He recently moved into a dumpy place where his landlord was a family member of a con artist. He had to arrest the con artist because they were active warrants against her. Meaning he needed to find a new place to live. Olivia loves him. He loves her. She told him that they can find a new place for them together. They were moving in together and they were both happy for that next step in their relationship.
