It’s just starting to hit the family that Delilah was going away next year. She was about to go to college. She was about to become independent and it’s hitting her parents hard. She was an only child for the both of them. They wanted to spend as much time with her as possible. It’s why Dee was staying at her dad’s when Robyn got a new case. Robyn would rather spend the time with Detective Dante or her daughter, but there were a lot of people out there that needed Robyn’s help. Sometimes the cops didn’t take everyone as seriously as they should have.
Robyn’s team was called in tonight to help a family business reclaim their money. There was a couple that runs their own restaurant. They were living the American dream. They chose to use a cash management service because they heard horror stories about business owners getting robbed when they tried to take their money to the bank. They thought a service that comes to them and one that has armed security would be a better fit for them in the long run. Well, this decision ultimately backfired on them.
They used a cash management service named “Guardian Warehouse”. There was a fire at the warehouse and their entire life savings went up in smoke. The company had initially promised them that there was insurance in place. If something happened to their cash, the insurance was supposed to kick in. They were told at the start that they’d get some of their money back and now the company was dodging their calls. It was almost as if they lied about the insurance policy. They knew that the people using their services wouldn’t have a chance to fight a claim if they lost everything.
The couple turned to Robyn because they were scared. They didn’t want to shut down their restaurant if they don’t get their life savings back Or at least a partial payment. They didn’t want to move back to the Caribbean or start all over again. They wanted justice and they picked the right person for it. Robyn agreed to help these people even as the rest of her team doubted they could be of much use. Robyn stuck with the case because she remembered Officer Miller. He was a cop that worked her dad’s case. He never gave up. He also never stopped checking up on Robyn.
Miller made Robyn feel like a priority. Now, Robyn was helping this couple. She went to the site of the warehouse. She went with Detective Dante so that they could get through the door and it wasn’t long before she found out that not all hope was lost. The couple’s life savings weren’t destroyed. It was stolen. They looked at the money that got burnt up. They were all stamped to be out of service. Meaning it was basically funny money. It was as good as monopoly money. The thieves left the fake bills behind and they stole the reach cash.
The guard on duty didn’t see anything because he was having phone s*x with his girlfriend. Kurt Nichols and his girlfriend Molly also liked having relations on the money. The whole company was run by the incompetent. Robyn met Molly. Molly told her that the person she should be worried about was Luke Wentworth. It was his company only he used it as a personal piggybank. He was constantly taking money out for his drug and gambling problems. When Robyn and Dante caught up to him, he was trying to flee the country.
Wentworth didn’t have insurance. He let it lapse because he wanted to spend the money elsewhere. He was also holding money for the Russian mob and they didn’t like hearing they got robbed. They were looking for people to blame. Wentworth didn’t want to die for someone else’s greed. No, the person who stole over eight million dollars was Jimmy Talbot. He was working with Niko. Niko was the son of Robyn’s clients. He and his buddy both went to college together. They thought they’d have grand futures and nowadays they were working low minimum jobs.
The guys resented their lives. They wanted to get out of their rut. Then Niko remembered his parents use the money service. He thought they could rob the place and that his parents would get the money back when the insurance paid out. He didn’t know there was no insurance. He also didn’t know they were stealing money from the Russian mob. The mob got to them before Robyn and Dante did. Mel also wasn’t nearby. Mel was at her parents’ house. She agreed to tell her parents about her PTSD. And the second she did – her father just wandered off.
Her father always shuts down whenever emotions are discussed. She knew her dad was like that. She hadn’t wanted to tell him anything and Harry made her doubt herself. He told her that she could be wrong. He told her that her dad deserved a chance to prove himself, but her dad reacted just like she knew he would. She was so upset that she was going to return to the city and that’s when her mom stepped in. The mom knew the dad could be problematic. She told Mel that she should force her dad to see her.
Mel took her advice. She refused to let her dad ignore her. She talked to him and he understood. He never mentioned his time in the Philippine military. He was captured. He was tortured. He suffers from PTSD and so he knew exactly how Mel felt. He walked away earlier because he felt he should have protected his daughter. And her pain is his shame. Mel was able to connect with her dad and, while her absence was felt, Robyn managed to close the case without her. She and Dante found the mob.
They took them down. There were also several arrests. The mobsters were going to jail. The same for Niko and his friend. Niko’s parents got their savings back and it didn’t matter as much as losing their son.
Aunt Vi also agreed to a ride-along with the handsome Captain Curtis. Everything was going well until she watched him profile a young black kid and she felt he crossed a line. Robyn felt differently about the situation when they talked yet something about it unnerved Vi. She wasn’t sure if she wants to keep doing this dance with a cop.
