Robyn McCall has been a vigilante for a while now. She put some dangerous people behind bars. There was one case that will stick with her forever, though. It was the Gravedigger. The Gravedigger was a serial killer. He buried women in a shallow grave with an oxygen tank. Most of his victims tried to claw their way to freedom. They also freaked out and cost themselves some valuable amount of oxygen. It was a cruel way to kill those women. The Gravedigger got off on it because he hates women. His victims were all women. They were brunettes in their twenties. They were standing in for someone and the authorities never found out who.

Anyways, Robyn put him in jail over a year ago. She thought that would be the end of it. She underestimated him and she realized that when a copycat matched his MO to a tee. The victim was exactly the original Gravedigger’s type. She also had a mark seared into her back. The Gravedigger used to mark his victims like cattle. He probably coached his twisted fanboy into following his MO. The cops were investigating the new murder. They figured it was a copycat and in cases like this they usually talk to the original killer to find out if he was in communication with the new guy.

Detective Dante made sure Robyn was in that meeting. They spoke with the Gravedigger. His real name is Tyler Ray Kynard. He thought he was setting these women free by killing them. He claimed he purified them. He was a sick man. He was also cocky. He couldn’t help rubbing it in Robyn’s face that the killings haven’t stopped. He knew the name of the latest victim. He bragged about picking her out and he said the copycat was acolyte. The man will do anything he says. He would even pick up where the Gravedigger left off.

Now that they knew for sure that the two were in communication, they had to track it. The killer’s mail was heavily guarded. He was in a secure prison. Robyn knew she could lean on him and he eventually brag about his “acolyte”. She was so busy with him that she didn’t know what Dee was doing. Dee was Robyn’s teenage daughter. Her full name was Delilah. Everyone calls her Dee. Dee just heard back from her safety school. She got turned down because she got arrested at a protest. And so that made her upset.

It made her what to give up on being the good kid. She skipped a thing at school. She wanted to go to a party with Cam and Tyrese. Tyrese tried to warn her that the party was in a sketchy neighborhood. Only Dee didn’t care. She wanted to be a dumb kid. She convinced the guys to take her to the party and she was off getting in trouble while her mother was learning how the Gravedigger was getting his messages. The Gravedigger likes staying in his cell. He only leaves once a month for mandatory exercise. And while he’s gone, his cell get cleaned by the custodian.

They found the custodian. He has a gambling problem. He accepts thousands of dollars to put a numerical message in the killer’s cell. Only Kynard was not the real Gravedigger. Robyn quickly realized that he was the acolyte and the real Gravedigger was still out there. She always knew something was off when she caught Kynard. She could never quite name it then only she knows the truth now. Kynard wasn’t sending messages out. The real Gravedigger was sending messages in. Robyn confronted Kynard about it and he bragged about the Gravedigger.

Kynard said the Gravedigger will continue his mission. He didn’t realize how sloppy the two of them were. Now that they knew he was just a pawn, they tracked down his contacts before he got arrested. They found out Kynard worked for the powerful Winston family. They were a wealthy New York family. They even made the charges against one of their own go away. His name is Charles Winston. He tried to kill his mother when he was thirteen. His mother then made sure he was never charged. She didn’t even put him in therapy. She just acted like nothing happened.

Charles was actually still living with her. She was a white brunette. She looked like the victims. He was killing them to finally finish the job and kill his mother. He couldn’t kill his mother in real life because he knew he’d be the chief suspect. He turns to surrogates to help him with his anger. He also took a job at the morgue. He works for the Medical Examiner. He was at the scene of the latest murder. He likes watching the cops. He likes getting involved. He didn’t hide when Detective Dante and Robyn caught up to him at his family’s warehouse.

Charles had already grabbed another woman by then. Her time was limited, but he wanted to toy with the Equalizer first. He had the perfect opportunity to blame everything on Kynard and start over somewhere new. He didn’t do that because he wanted to meet Robyn. Robyn nearly found him that first time around. She was someone he can respect. He wants to beat her. He wants to win over her and the man was truly sick. Robyn was interrogating him as Mel was looking through his bedroom. The bedroom was frozen in time.

It looked like Charles never became an adult. He slept in space themed sheets. He was surrounded by toys. The team figured he was traumatized as a kid and he never grew up or allowed himself to grow up. Harry went searching through Charles’s past. He found nothing. The maid raised him. He tried to kill his mother after she fired the maid and he was sent to military school not long after that. There were no other incidents. He moved back in with his mom after his father died. He wasn’t killing his mother by killing his victims. He was killing the maid for leaving him.

He was a pathetic man that never grew up. The maid used to take him stargazing. He buried his victims according to the star charts on his bedroom ceiling and they used that to find his latest victim before she ran out of oxygen. This was it. Charles was finally going to face charges for something he did. And his family couldn’t buy his way out anymore.

Dee also had to come clean with her mother. She got drunk at the party. She didn’t hurt herself or anything because Cam made sure to watch her. He even got her home in safe condition. Aunt Vi wasn’t mad at him. She knew Dee did this to herself. So, she gave Dee a choice – either Dee tells her mom she got drunk or Aunt Vi tells her. They didn’t know that Robyn had a long day. She told Charles a secret to keep him talking and it’s going to be hard to bury that pain away.
