In tonight’s The Rookie episode, Celina Juarez wanted advice about becoming a P2. She was no longer a rookie, but she was struggling with finding the right work/life balance. She tried talking to Lucy and Nyla about it. Nyla said that a need often finds way to make time. Take what she’s doing.

She was surveilling a suspected serial killer. She had him watched every hour of every day. Her boss pulled back the official surveillance because it was too expensive. He had no way of justifying it to his own bosses and so Nyla was watching Liam Glasser during her free time.

Nyla’s friends often joined her in watching Glasser. They were following him everywhere. He was hiking one day with them a few feet behind and that’s when they smelled smoke.

LA was notorious for its fires. Anything could have started it. The cops don’t have enough time to investigate it because the fire was spreading. The city was basically shut down and everyone was scrambling to get to safety. Glasser lived nearby. He was in the evacuation zone. He also made a joke about being free to do what he likes now that the cops will be busy.

Glasser said that right in front of his family. His wife didn’t think anything of it. She still thought her husband was being unfairly surveilled by LAPD. She also had two small children to worry about and so she packed up the car to head to the safe zone. With the family out of the house, Nyla had a justifiable reason to check the home.

She was hoping to find evidence from the killings. She found nothing and Glasser was getting antsy. He went to the community center with his family. There was a domestic dispute that the cops had to break up. And that’s when Glasser left.

Glasser had been planning his disappearance for months. He told his wife that he was going to the warehouse. He instead ditched his car and disappeared in a van that no one knew about. He also managed to grab a new victim. It was a homeless man. Glasser told him that he had a job for him. He worked maintenance.

He had the uniform. The homeless man didn’t suspect a thing and neither did his friend. Glasser was gone. Nyla was obsessed with finding him. Angela tried to reason with her. She tried to tell her this wasn’t her fault and that this one might be the one that got away.

Only Nyla was still stuck on finding Glasser. She gave up a lot of family time to watch him. She had no clue that her husband became entangled with a woman from the community center.

This other woman’s name was Kylie. Kylie got into a fight with a man earlier and the cops rushed to help her. That’s how Glasser got away. It also helped Kylie open up to James.

She kissed him and Nolan saw it. Nolan wasn’t seen. The kissers had no idea he was there or what he saw yet it left Nolan in a bad position because Nyla is his friend.

Nyla was once Nolan’s training officer. If her husband was kissing other women, she needed to be told. It technically didn’t matter that James pushed Kylie away after the kiss. He told Kylie that he loves his wife. He has to tell Nyla about the kiss or Nolan might do it for him. Then Nyla showed up at the community center.

She wanted to ask Glasser’s wife about where he could be. The wife was still deluded. It took her son confessing for her to realize that maybe the cops were right about Glasser. The man told his son that if cops asked – he was in a brown van and it was a secret.

It was in fact a green van. The son almost got in trouble and so his mother spoke up to protect him. She had an idea about where Glasser could be. She thought he might be at her mom’s old place. Her mom passed and the place has just been abandoned ever since. Nyla called it in. Tim and Lucy were closer to the area than they were.

Tim actually had to pick up his nephews. He picked them up and left them at home. He went back when he heard about looters. He stopped two guys from robbing his sister’s place. The kids were fine. They were too busy playing video games to realize what was going on.

Thankfully, Tim’s sister showed up. Tim and Lucy got squad cars for the thieves. They were heading towards Glasser when the new rookie made another mistake. Seth was supposed to be helping Lieutenant Grey.

He was told that a certain road was blocked and he failed to report it. He also got rid of the evidence after Lucy and Tim drove into that. They had to flee the car.

They were hiding underneath a fireproof blanket. Help wasn’t coming right away. The two thought they were going to die and so they told each other they still love the other.

In the meantime, the cops caught up to Glasser. Nyla actually got to the house with Angela, Nolan, and Miles. Their radios were going in and out. There was so much smoke that they couldn’t see anything.

Nolan went through the floor. Miles found the victim handcuffed in the shower. They were all separated when they got into that house. Nolan found Glasser before the others did. The two men fought. Glasser almost killed Nolan and was saved by the detectives. They had to flee the area in a hurry because the fire was literally at the door.

Glasser was later put in a holding cell. Nyla left it to others to question him. She was going on a much needed break and was taking all of her vacation days. She wanted to head home to James.

James was still at the community center when Kylie’s ex shot up the place. He shot both Kylie and James. Both could die. Nolan realized now wasn’t the time to tell Nyla about her husband kissing another woman.

And somehow Tim and Lucy both managed to survive in spite of Seth, but Seth tried to shift the blame and all it did was make him look suspicious.

THE END!
