In tonight’s The Rookie episode, anything goes on April Fools’ Day! Officer Lucy Chen used that as an excuse to hook up with her ex. Lucy and Tim Bradford still love each other.

They broke up mostly because of his pride. She could have stayed mad with him and instead she still loves him. She used April Fools’ Day as a way to get her foot back in the door.

She and Tim were supposed to pretend like nothing happened. They just weren’t convincing Selina. Selina saw right away that Lucy was glowing. She knew it was because she hooked up with someone. She also noticed that Lucy was getting touchy with Tim. And so she put the two together.

Selina was a cop after all. She swore to Lucy she wouldn’t tell anyone. She was Lucy’s roommate. They were riding together tonight and so Selina said she’d keep the secret.

Anyways, Tim had more things to be worried about than office gossip. He ran into the social media intern for the LAPD. They hired some young woman to help the cops rebuild their image. They thought she would still follow the law and the stupid girl thought she could do whatever she wanted. She tweeted out that today was Parking Ticket Amnesty Day.

She claimed that all tickets will be dismissed today if people came in. Well, people came in. They learned that the city couldn’t dismiss their tickets. They got upset with LAPD.

The intern was hurting them more than helping them. Tim tried to talk to her. He tried to tell her she couldn’t promise things they couldn’t deliver only she didn’t care. She told him he didn’t know how to give criticism. She thought she was right about everything. She got worse in the day and so that was on Tim. He should have locked her out of the twitter account the first chance he could.

The chaos that lady caused was felt by everyone in the department. It also came at the worst time for Nolan. Nolan got a new rookie. He was training a kid that spent twelve months under someone else and Nolan quickly spotted that the kid was barely trained.

Connor Craig was so bad at his job that Nolan questioned if he was being pranked. He gave the kid a chance to write out a traffic ticket. Connor accidentally wrote the ticket to himself. They later responded to a domestic disturbance. It was the home of that couple that got thrown out of the fundraiser a few months back.

The husband was a drunk. Teddy was unemployed. He thought that was everyone else’s fault. He drank all hours of the day and he scares his wife. Nolan knew this situation needed to be handled with delicacy.

He walked through each of the steps they have to take in a case like this. He was doing his best to teach Connor and Connor still got a blood nose after Teddy attacked him. Nolan had to report what happened to Lieutenant Gray. Gray was skeptical that Conor was as bad as Nolan claimed.

Nolan had to go through everything that happened on this one day with this one rookie. He said Conor was on the brink of washing out. Which could pose a problem. Conor’s previous CO was the legendary Sergeant McAdams. McAdams was considered a great cop. He never once reported Conor for wrongdoing.

Conor spent a year under McAdams. He was never reported nor were there even rumors. Gray said that if Nolan bounces the kid out of the program – the captain might think the problem was Nolan. Nolan couldn’t let that happen. He contacted McAdams.

McAdams has had a stellar career with LAPD. He was about to retire when he got Conor. He later admitted to Nolan that he didn’t want to end his career with his loser and so he let the kid do the easy stuff until he could transfer to someone else. The person he did that to was Nolan. Nolan couldn’t trust Conor to have his back.

He genuinely thought of bouncing him. He told Conor that he had till the end of the day to prove to Nolan that he deserves to be a cop. And today turned out to be a day from hell.

That stupid intern was fired. She posted a prank on the official account. Tim finally had enough. He fired her and she didn’t take it well. She decided to get revenge by continuing to use the LAPD twitter account.

She said all crime was legal for the next three hours. She basically kicked off the Purge in Los Angeles. Nolan wasn’t sure if he could ride with Conor with all the chaos happening outside. He took a chance on him because he knew Bailey would kill the kid if Nolan dies on the job. And the first stop they were called to was once again Teddy’s fault.

Teddy’s wife bailed him out of jail. It didn’t matter that he was abusive. She still helped him get release and she even gave him the keys to the car. Only the cops were called when the car crashed. Teddy was a big dude.

He wasn’t the one driving. His wife was the one driving. She probably got sick of the abuse and killed him on a day she thought she could get away with it. It was Conor that first suspected her. He saw Teddy adjust the car at the police station. He also noticed that the case was adjusted for someone as petite as Anita.

Conor and Nolan came up with a plan to arrest Anita when they ran into trouble. The Purge had normal people thinking they could do anything they wanted today. They saw two cops and they wanted to toy with them.

It wasn’t helped by the fact that Anita was trying to hide a murder. She told the cops that they needed to give the car to the guys so that they could protect her. She knew what she was doing when she tried to destroy evidence. The officers took Anita and made a run for it. Their patrol car was destroyed. The evidence on Teddy’s murder was destroyed.

Funnily enough, the girl kicked this all off had called Tim personally. She was in the Municipal building when a mob attacked. They had guns. They killed a few people.

She was scared. She was hiding under a desk and she called Tim to come and help her. The intern was nearly killed because of a prank she childishly thought was funny. The worst part is that Tim still saved her life. He saved her with Lucy’s help and they arrested her once it was safe.

Some level of normalcy was returned to the city. Angela and Nyla also arrested a dirty cop. The cop tried to frame an innocent man for a crime he committed. It was a long day for Gray. Gray also heard about Lucy and Tim getting back together. He confronted them. They lied about it. They claimed it was just a prank and so Grey pranked them back.

And Conor saved one crucial bit of evidence from the scene. They used that to arrest Anita and so Conor wasn’t getting kicked out of the program. He’ll also get transferred to a much quieter precinct where he can be fully trained.

THE END!
