The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers recap for Friday, January 3, reveals that Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) will get some bad news when the police officer confirms Ian Ward’s (Ray Wise) story checks out and that he’s a prison chaplain following his legitimate release.
However, Nick will warn that he’ll make Ian wish he was never born if he dares to cause more distress for the people he cares about.
Once Nick heads inside Society, he’ll learn that Sharon Newman (Sharon Case) is missing.
Nick will wonder if Ian was behind Sharon’s tainted meds and will ultimately head to the cottage with Faith Newman (Reylynn Caster) to look for her.
Since Sharon won’t be there, Nick and Faith will head to the main ranch house next.
Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) will get updates on Ian’s release and return to Genoa City, so he’ll resolve to find Ian and have a talk with him.
Back at the motel, Jordan (Colleen Zenk) will tell Ian that Sharon stirred briefly, but she hit her with more chloroform.
Ian will insist it’s almost time to say goodbye to Sharon and will talk about his grand plan.
The goal will be to make it look like Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) was involved in causing Sharon’s demise.
Ian will suggest it’d be poetic if Phyllis ran Sharon’s car into the river in the same spot where Sharon dumped Heather Stevens’ (Vail Bloom) body.
After Ian gloats about Sharon’s watery grave and how Phyllis will be blamed, he’ll make a prediction about Mariah Copeland (Camryn Grimes) being inconsolable.
Ian will think that’ll be his path to stepping back into the role of a father figure.
Jordan will grumble since she won’t see how this will help her own agenda, but Ian will remind her of Mariah’s friendship with Claire Newman (Hayley Erin).
He’ll act like winning Mariah’s trust will bring an “in” with Claire.
At Society on Friday’s Y&R episode, Tessa Porter (Cait Fairbanks) will reassure Mariah since she had eyes on Ian most of the night.
That’ll leave Tessa confident that Ian isn’t the reason for Sharon’s disappearance.
Tessa will be more concerned about Mariah and how Ian resurfacing will affect her, but Mariah will insist she’s stronger now and will resolve to keep her family safe.
Meanwhile, Phyllis will go for a drive and end up in the same spot where her crash happened, so more memories will rush back.
Once Phyllis returns to the jazz lounge, she’ll tell Daniel Romalotti Jr. (Michael Graziadei) and Summer Newman (Allison Lanier) about that drive and how she remembered the person behind the wheel clearly.
Phyllis will confess that it wasn’t Sharon; it was an older woman she didn’t recognize with wavy hair and glasses instead.
After Phyllis promises she’s letting go and plans to let the police handle the Heather investigation, she’ll express a willingness to admit it if she’s wrong about Sharon’s guilt.
At the Abbott mansion, Claire will enjoy a belated New Year’s Eve countdown with Kyle before they kiss and head upstairs to make love.
Once they’re canoodling in bed, Kyle will talk about their intensifying connection and how safe he’s always felt with Claire.
Claire will be a little nervous about their growing bond and will worry she doesn’t deserve it, but Kyle will firmly believe in redemption and love being the reason it’s possible.
